Way back in February 2009, we gave you the first, exclusive peek at Rick Remender's "The Last Days of American Crime," a gritty, noir-tinged heist story that hit shelves from Radical Publishing. Little did we know the story would soon end up in the hands of "Avatar" and "Clash of the Titans" star Sam Worthington, only to be optioned by the actor and his producing partner, Michael Schwarz, in November.
The series follows a dangerous sociopath named Kevin Cash (Worthington) as he assembles a team to pull off what could be the last great heist in American history. With the impending launch of a government-sponsored technology that will make it impossible for anyone to commit a crime just days away, Cash and his crew attempt to steal the machines that manage the nation's new form of currency.
The second issue of "American Crime" hits shelves this week, so we caught up with the writer to find out what's in store for the series, how he feels about Worthington coming on board, and the screenplay he's been working on for the film. Read more...

As comic book fans anxiously await the return of Tony Stark in next week's "Iron Man 2," there's another popular hero readying for a big screen comeback next week as well — none other than S.H.I.E.L.D. director Nick Fury.
In an interview with The Los Angeles Times, director Jon Favreau spoke about Fury's elevated role in "Iron Man 2" following Samuel L. Jackson's cameo appearance at the end of the first "Iron Man." While that scene was initially intended as a tribute to the character's comic book resemblance to Jackson, the role has clearly expanded in light of the actor's nine-picture deal with Marvel Studios.
"The idea was just to do this tag, and we thought it would be really fun to get Sam since the comics version of Fury is based on him," said the director. "Now it's become much more than that." Read more...

Earlier this year, Samuel Bayer — the director of the upcoming "A Nightmare on Elm Street" remake — expressed his desire to bring Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson's "The Boys" to the big screen. However, according to Bayer, a surprising name has emerged as a potential frontrunner for the project.
“It’s so funny, I would die to do ['The Boys']," Bayer told Film School Rejects. "From what I’ve heard from the producers on the movie is that Adam McKay is doing it. He did 'Anchorman,' I guess. The studio is really hot on him.”
Bayer also indicated that he may still be in the running to direct "The Boys," if "A Nightmare on Elm Street" does well at the box office. “Let’s have the movie come out this weekend and do really well," said Bayer. "Then we’ll see how my stock is in Hollywood.” Read more...

"Iron Man 2" blasts into theaters next week, so MTV News caught up with the film's cast and director this weekend to discuss the much-anticipated sequel to the 2008 blockbuster.
While Tony Stark himself, Robert Downey Jr., confessed to being a little out of touch with anything outside Iron Man's corner of the Marvel universe, he did indicate that the story isn't likely to end after "Iron Man 2." In fact, he said he has some "pretty strong ideas" about where Tony and his surrounding cast of characters will go for "Iron Man 3."
"I'm the expert on me and Tony and Iron Man and that story, [but] once it starts intersecting with the other stuff, I start losing track," Downey told MTV News. "Thankfully, there are experts." Read more...

We're less than two weeks away from "Iron Man 2" arriving in theaters, so that means the promotional push is in high gear! While there's always the risk of revealing too much about a film before it premieres, it's hard to argue with anything that results in great footage hitting the 'Net a little early.
Take, for example, this scene from Iron Man's battle with Whiplash:
Whether you're calling it the Briefcase Armor or Silver Centurion, Tony's new suit is all sorts of awesome.

Marvel can't get enough of Emily Blunt. After a scheduling conflict kept the 27-year-old actress from trying on Black Widow's skin-tight garb in "Iron Man 2," the Marvel folks approached her again with an offer to star as leading lady Peggy Carter in "The First Avenger: Captain America."
Blunt reportedly passed on the chance to star alongside Chris Evans in that film, and now she exclusively tells MTV News why.
"I'm a big supporter of [director] Joe Johnston and I think that 'Captain America' is going to be really fun and I gather that the story is really interesting," she said. "It just wasn't what I wanted to do next, to be honest." Read more...

"The Losers" may have finished fourth at the box office over the weekend, but worry about what its performance may mean for comic book movies ranked much higher for a few faces in the Twitter Report feed. In the meantime, everyone should take note that "Iron Man 2" has yet to step into theaters this year.
And speaking of "Iron Man 2," Edgar Wright says it will take a volcano to keep him away this week. Check out what he said below, as well as whose comics Chicago Bears linebacker Lance Briggs checked out at C2E2 and who's mourning the L.A. Kings' loss in the Stanley Cup playoffs.
It's all in the Twitter Report for April 26, 2010. Read more...

Bob Layton and David Michelinie’s “Demon in a Bottle” is widely considered to be one of the definitive "Iron Man" stories. Originally published in 1979, it follows Tony Stark's struggle with alcoholism as his company and reputation fall to the machinations of Justin Hammer.
And while fans may have expected the sequel to be influenced by that storyline, "Iron Man 2" screenwriter Justin Theroux has revealed that the filmmakers deliberately stayed away from it.
"['Demon in the Bottle'] works really well in the comics," said Theroux during an interview with UGO. "It's just a great, gritty storyline. It doesn't transfer to film. We didn't want to be the 'Leaving Las Vegas' version of 'Iron Man 2.' Even just a little bit of that can completely dominate the story." Read more...

Earlier this month, word hit the wire that Richard Starkings' creator-owned comic book series "Elephantmen" had been optioned for big-screen adaptation by Janet and Jerry Zucker's production studio.
Set in a dystopian future populated by humans and human/animal hybrids that were originally bred to be brainwashed soldiers, but now struggle to integrate into society, "Elephantmen" is published by Image Comics. The series began as a standalone story featuring Heironymous "Hip" Flask, a hippopotamus/human detective, and later spun off into a series of stories exploring the characters and adventures introduced in the original "Hip Flask" comics.
I managed to snag some time with Starkings while attending the recent C2E2 convention in Chicago, and got some details on how the film's massive creatures could look, as well as which parts of the wide-reaching "Elephantmen" storyline are likely to be the film's focus. Read more...

The turf for Batman's war on crime is about to extend well beyond Gotham City, because in the next few years, the Dark Knight will haunt the streets of major cities nationwide in an all-new road show.
Warner Bros. and DC Comics are currently in development on a Batman-centric stage show called "Batman Live," Heat Vision reports. The show is described as "an elaborate arena production aimed at kids and families" and is expected to feature a wealth of Batman's most notorious nemeses.
"Green Lantern: First Flight" writer Alan Burnett is working on the story and script for "Batman Live." Nick Grace Management and Walter Lane Prods., the team responsible for the award-winning "Walking With Dinosaurs" show, are collaborating on the project. Read more...
