Back in February, we brought you the news that fan-favorite writer Grant Morrison was working on a new television project with "Push" director Paul McGuigan and actor Stephen Fry.
Calling it a "modern take on an old fable or fairy story," McGuigan said the project was in its early stages, but would be filmed in — and based on the local folklore of — their native Scotland.
When I spoke to Morrison recently about his run on on DC's "Batman & Robin" comic book series, I also managed to get an update of sorts on the TV project, and some details about what fans can expect from it. Read more...

While the last scene in "Iron Man 2" sets the stage for the next movie from Marvel Studios, it appears that Robert Doweny Jr. will not reprise his role as Tony Stark (aka Iron Man) until "The Avengers" is released in 2012.
"[Downey's] not in 'Thor', he's not in Cap which are the two movies for next Summer," said "Iron Man 2" director Jon Favreau during an appearance on "The Kevin and Bean Show" from the Los Angeles based radio station KROQ (via Comic Book Movie). "It'll be very interesting to see how the Marvel Universe branches off. All of these movies are going to be taken into account for 'The Avengers' in two years."
"I'm not sure where 'The Avengers goes,' continued Favreau. "There is no shooting draft written yet. It's gonna be a big undertaking for Marvel to actually incorporate what happened in 'Iron Man,' 'Iron Man 2,' 'Thor,' 'Captain America' [and] 'The Hulk.' All that has to inform one unified vision in 'The Avengers.' It's a very exciting prospect. And certainly, Tony Stark is not going to be involved in any of the movies until that one." Read more...

Earlier this year, you might've heard a loud squeal of glee originating from the direction of Splash Page HQ — right around the time celebrated writer Neil Gaiman announced that he was scripting an episode of "Doctor Who" scheduled to air next season on the hit television series.
Yeah, that was me. Sorry about that.
Nevertheless, when I had the chance to chat with Gaiman during the recent C2E2 convention in Chicago (he was speaking in support of the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund), I made sure to ask him for some info about his upcoming contribution to the long-running series' canon.
"I was hugely relieved recently to read an interview with Steven Moffat online where he actually talked in public about my episode of 'Doctor Who,' because he revealed things about it," said Gaiman. "I figure anything that Steven Moffat has revealed about my episode, I am also at liberty to reveal in public." Read more...
With "Prince of Persia" hitting theaters this week, the latest installment of Weekend Reading looks at three books written by or inspired by the work of "Prince of Persia" creator Jordan Mechner.
A best-selling video game franchise and now a live-action film, "Prince of Persia" has had a long life since Mechner created the original game in 1989. Along with various sequels on the gaming side, there have also been two "Prince of Persia" graphic novels published, as well as an original story, "Solomon's Thieves," written by Mechner.
Let's take at all of 'em, shall we? Read more...

Last year, during the 25th Anniversary of the "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles," word broke that producer Scott Mednick ("300," "Superman Returns") was restarting the "TMNT" film franchise with a new movie that would be a live-action and CGI hybrid.
While "TMNT" co-creator Peter Laird sold the rights to Nickelodeon last October as part of a $60 million dollar deal, the new "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" film now appears to be back on the fast track.
Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form from Platinum Dunes have reached an agreement with Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon to produce the "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" reboot, according to Deadline. Mednick will also remain on the project with Galen Walker, one of the producers of the 2007 "TMNT" CGI film. Read more...

The last 24 hours in the Twitter Report feed have been a great time for discovery. The arrival of the iPad in the U.K. led the way, with Dave Gibbons trying to figure out what to carry his new device around in. Andy Diggle and Frazer Irving have been tweeting their struggles as well.
Adobe Photoshop CS5 and New York City's new subway maps also attracted some attention from creators. You can check out what Mike Oeming has been learning and what Fred Van Lente hopes will be be next for NYC's MTA and what Warren Ellis believes will be the true sign that he has made it in the world after the jump.

After "Kick-Ass" director Matthew Vaugnn was hired earlier this month to helm "X-Men: First Class," Fox announced that the film would be placed under an accelerated development and released next summer. Towards that end, the first cast member has been revealed.
James McAvoy has agreed to play a younger Professor Charles Xavier (aka Professor X) in "X-Men: First Class," according to The Hollywood Reporter. The story reportedly follows the early days of the partnership between Professor X and Magneto as they trained the first generation of mutants before a violent rift developed between them.
McAvoy has previously appeared in several films, including "Becoming," "The Last King of Scotland," "Atonement," "The Last Station" and "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe." However, McAvoy may be best known for his role as Wesley Gibson in the adaptation of Mark Millar's "Wanted." It is currently unknown if McAvoy's role in "X-Men: First Class" will affect the development of 'Wanted 2." Read more...

Back in 2008, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige named "Runaways" as one of the films most likely to follow "The Avengers."
And earlier this year, "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" creator Joss Whedon and Peter Sollett ("Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist") were reportedly the finalists to direct "Runaways" before Sollett ultimately signed on. Despite relatively little news since then, Marvel Studios has officially picked a screenwriter to deliver the script.
Drew Pearce has signed on to write the script for "Runaways," according to Deadline. Pearce is a British screenwriter best known for creating "No Heroics," a sitcom that follows a group of off-duty superheroes who hang out at a bar where they aren't allowed to use their powers. Read more...

Comic book fans, stretch those muscles and get ready for the race — "The Flash" is close to ready for his first big screen marathon.
Warner Bros. chairman and CEO Barry Meyer told shareholders during a presentation that "The Flash," based on the DC Comics character dubbed as "the fastest man alive," is close to receiving a green light from the film studio. While screenwriters and directors have yet to be announced, Meyer's words indicate that the first cinematic adventure of Barry Allen — or, possibly, Wally West — is getting closer to an official announcement.
But "The Flash" isn't the only comic book project that Meyer confirmed as in development. Read more...
