"Lost" ends its critically acclaimed run this Sunday night, but that doesn't mean the saga is over forever, right? While it could take some time (see: eternity) for further adventures of Jack Shephard, James "Sawyer" Ford and the other survivors of Oceanic Flight 815 to transpire, there's still an endless amount of stories to tell with the characters and settings we've grown to love over the last six years.
I wouldn't advocate for a continuation of "Lost" in television form, but as a comic book? Well, that's a different matter altogether!
From further exploration of the DHARMA Initiative to the story of the Others, here are some possible "Lost" stories that could work quite well in comic book form.
A History of Eternal Violence: "Lost" barely scratched the surface on the eternal struggle between divine brothers Jacob and the Man in Black. Why not pull the curtain back just a bit further to see how their conflict escalated so terribly? Such a miniseries could provide closure on plenty of mysteries "Lost" might not get around to answering, such as who built the four-toed statue and why there are so many ancient egyptian relics on the island.
The DHARMA Days: In season five, Sawyer and his friends traveled back to the 1970s and joined the DHARMA Initiative. There's a solid three year window of stories that were never fully told — how did James and Juliet fall in love, how was Jin able to learn English, when did Faraday leave the island — but a series of DHARMA-centric one-shots could fill in all of these gaps with ease. Additionally, we could see some comics focused on DHARMA after the incident at the Swan Station leading up to the Initiative's eventual purge at the hands of Benjamin Linus.
French Distress: Danielle Rousseau survived on the island for sixteen years all by herself. In that time, her infant daughter was snatched away from her by Benjamin Linus and the Others. Are we really to believe that Rousseau never made progress looking for baby Alex? I think a brief story of her attempts to reclaim her daughter, or even a vignette about her solitary struggles, would make for a very interesting character study for a short comic book work.
Adventures of the Socks: While Rose and Bernard received flashback stories, the same can't be said for other background characters like Leslie Arzt and Neil Frogurt. That could be corrected in a series of one-shots focusing on the socks, the term for Oceanic's background survivors as given by Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse. Seriously, who doesn't want to see more from Scott and Steve?
The Other Side: Why do the Others speak Latin? How did they first come to the island? What's the deal with the fake beards and dirty makeup? All these questions and more could be answered in a limited series telling the tale of "Lost" through the lens of the Others. After all, more time spent with Ben, Ethan, Friendly and the other Others is never a bad thing. Unless they're keeping you in a bear cage, that is.
