Earlier this month, "Iron Man 2" director Jon Favreau confirmed that Howard Stark — Tony's father — would have a part in "The First Avenger: Captain America."
And while Favreau cast "Mad Men" star John Slattery in the role during the latest "Iron Man" film, Marvel Studios will apparently go with a younger actor for "Captain America."
Dominic Cooper is "slatted to play Howard Stark" in "The First Avenger: Captain America," according to Salon (via Slash Film ). Cooper has previously appeared in "The Escapist," "Mamma Mia!," "The Duchess" and "Jericho."
If the report is accurate, then Cooper would join a cast that includes Chris Evans as Steve Rogers/Captain America, along with Hugo Weaving, Sebastian Stan, Haley Atwell and Toby Jones. Cooper had previously been rumored to be up for a role in "Thor."
Favreau has previously told MTV News that "Part of the history of the Stark family is the super-soldier program," which is the catalyst for Steve Rogers' transformation into Captain America.
Favreau also hinted at the time that Howard Stark would be portrayed by younger actor.
"['Captain America'] is World War II," explained Favreau. "It wouldn't be that same actor, probably, because [Howard Stark] would be much younger."
"[Howard Stark] was starting out during that time, and [he] was involved with the war effort, much like Howard Hughes," added Favreau.
"The First Avenger: Captain America" is scheduled to invade theaters in July 2011.
