With "Iron Man 2" hitting theaters today, the Marvel movie universe is on everyone's minds lately — and we're not alone in wondering what the new film could mean for those that follow it.

How will the events of "Iron Man 2" affect "Thor," "Captain America" and "Avengers"? Heck, how will they affect "Iron Man 3"?

MTV News asked that very question of director Jon Favreau, who shared some thoughts on the franchise's future and said he still plans to get Iron Man's arch-enemy, The Mandarin, into the picture for the third installment.

"I would like 'Iron Man 3' to pay it off, but there's so much I don't understand yet about what the world is going to be like then," said Favreau. "You've got 'Thor,' 'Captain America,' 'Avengers' all happening with different directors before 'Iron Man 3' — and that's all going to affect 'Iron Man 3.'" Read More...

Men in BlackWith today's news that "Men in Black 3" is officially moving forward with a May 2012 release date and Will Smith signed to reprise his role as Agent J, there's a lot of buzz surrounding the blockbuster franchise that first brought us the Neuralizers.

Although nothing is official with Smith's former co-star, Tommy Lee Jones, MTV News happened to speak to another potential cast member, "Jonah Hex" star Josh Brolin, about his rumored involvement with the film. The actor is expected to play a younger version of Jones' character, Agent K.

"It looks really, really good," said Brolin of the early script for the film that he's seen. "I can't tell you the story, obviously, but they pitched me the general story, and I was like, 'Eh, I don't know if that's really my thing, man.'" Read More...

Iron Man 2"Iron Man 2" can't hide from the general public — or Twitter — any longer. The reviews continue to trickle in, and director Jon Favreau seems to be happy with the buzz he's getting around the Twittersphere.

Yesterday's election in the U.K. has been popular as well, and though I don't feel qualified to weigh in personally, I can support the Batman fantasy from Warren Ellis' tweets. I can also support Jon Rosenberg's re-tinkered schedule commitment for his webcomic "Goats." He announced earlier this week that he would be re-strategizing, and it looks we can still look forward to a weekly posting regiment in the near future over on Goats.com. Check out what all of these fine gentlemen said below, along with Justin Gray's take on "The Human Centipede" and words I endorse from Tim Seeley.

It's all in the Twitter Report for May 7, 2010. Read More...

Late last year, Jeff Bridges publicly stated that the first "Iron Man" film was shot without a script, and the production largely relied on the improvisation skills of the actors — in particular, Robert Downey Jr. who portrayed the title role.

While Downey's "Iron Man 2" co-stars Sam Rockwell and Olivia Munn have previously reported that their parts in the movie were heavily improvised. However, according to Don Cheadle — who takes over the role of Jim Rhodes from Terrance Howard — "Iron Man 2" was also filmed without a script.

"No, there wasn't [a locked-in script]," related Cheadle. "To be honest, We did improv a lot. We were very often sort of on a journey of discovery in the scenes, trying to find out where we were, who we were, what it was going to be. Read More...

This week's episode of "Doctor Who" features the return of not one but two notable additions to the modern chapter of the long-running science-fiction series: the terrifying, time-bending assassins known as Weeping Angels, and the mysterious woman with very intimate knowledge of The Doctor, River Song.

It's the latter of these two elements that made the following clip from my interview with "Doctor Who" stars Matt Smith and Karen Gillan quite appropriate to run this week. While the pair addressed the "necessity" of romance in the new season last week, the conversation took an interesting turn when we touched upon The Doctor's marital status — especially as it pertains to the aforementioned River Song.

"A deep profound love is there," Smith said of the relationship between The Doctor and Amy Pond in the current season, "and that's not to say romance doesn't have a role in the series — it does. I just think maybe the whole companion/Doctor thing, there's only so far it can go." Read More...

Men In BlackMark your calenders, the "Men In Black" are officially making a comeback.

Will Smith has been signed to reprise his role as Agent J in "Men In Black 3," according to The Hollywood Reporter. Tommy Lee Jones is also reportedly "in negotiations" to return as Agent K. Director Barry Sonnenfeld is also signed to helm the film, which will be released in 3-D.

The article also confirms earlier reports that the story will feature a time-travel element and states that "most of the action takes place in 1969." Josh Brolin is also in talks to portray a younger version of Jones' Agent K, who teams up with Smith's character in the past; confirming rumors that first surfaced back in December. Read More...

Iron Man 2Iron Man 2” hits theaters this weekend in the U.S., and while the first film served primarily as an origin tale and introduction to the character, this second film promises to expand upon the character and his world by drawing upon several different characters and storylines from the Marvel Universe.

MTV News took a look back through Iron Man's history to see how some of the film's primary source material from the comics world was adapted for the big screen.

One of the most anticipated additions to the “Iron Man” film series is the villain Whiplash, played by Mickey Rourke. Interestingly, the film version of Whiplash is actually a composite of two Iron Man villains. In the comics, there is indeed a member of Iron Man's rogues gallery named Whiplash (a.k.a. Blacklash), originally created by Stan Lee and Gene Colan in 1968’s “Tales of Suspense #97.” And like his film counterpart, Whiplash/Blacklash wields a high-tech whip capable of inflicting damage on the Invincible Iron Man. By now you know that in "Iron Man 2," Sam Rockwell plays Justin Hammer, a rival industrialist out to take down Tony Stark and his company. However, back when he was first announced for the role, comic fans were quick to note that the actor has little resemblance to his comics counterpart, a geriatric, skeletal villain fond of smoking robes, ascots and diabolical machinations.

Longtime readers will remember that Splash Page actually gave Rockwell his first look at the comic book version of Justin Hammer a year ago when we brought an issue of the "Iron Man" comic to an interview with the actor. (And if you were following me on Twitter, you might have played a role in picking out the comic I gave our interviewer for the chat.)

So, what did Rockwell take from comics' version of Hammer?

"I got the flamboyance of him in the comic book — the ascot and the smoking robe," Rockwell told MTV News. "We played around with that in the camera tests, but eventually we just sort of did our own thing." Read More...

Toby JonesDirector Joe Johnston's "The First Avenger: Captain America" has picked up another villain.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Toby Jones has signed on to play Arnim Zola, a nazi scientist who used his horrific experiments to allow himself to unnaturally extend his life, ultimately leading to his consciousness being permanently stuck in a robotic body.

Jones has previously appeared in "W" as Karl Rove, "Frost/Nixon" as Swifty Lazar, Smee in "Finding Neverland" and in the "Harry Potter" film series as the voice of Dobby the House Elf. Jones is also slated to appear in an upcoming episode of "Doctor Who" as well as the feature film, "The Adventures of Tintin: Secret of the Unicorn." Read More...

Iron Man 2Tony Stark has been described as the “cool exec with a heart of steel,” and this has been especially true more than once in his life. As audiences will see in "Iron Man 2" this weekend, the Armored Avenger leads a life where unique health problems can (and do) often arise.

For those of you interested in this has played out in the comics, here’s a complete guide to Tony Stark’s medical history and the modifications he’s done to his body over the years.

CHEST-PLATE HEART-AID

As movie fans know, the events that led to him becoming Iron Man also involved Tony Stark getting a lot of shrapnel in his chest. Tony was forced to wear the chest-plate of his Iron Man armor at all times, using its magnetic fields to keep near-microscropic metal shards from piercing his heart.

Tony had to constantly recharge his chest plate, and if his armor or power cells were damaged in a battle as Iron Man, he faced possible death within moments. Read More...
