Crystal Bowersox got some support from the comics Twittersphere during last night's "American Idol." Marv Wolfman and Rob Worley both approved of her performance going into tonight's follow-up round in the competition.
In other tweets, Jeff Lemire posted a Superboy sketch that someone at the Maine Comics Arts Festival was very lucky to have snagged, Stan Lee offered some "Thor" movie insights, and Rob Liefeld has some pressing questions about fouls in the Suns/Lakers Western Conference Finals. Find out who you agree with, who you disagree with, and who has brilliant things to say about the iPhone.

THE STORY: "Outsider" by Jim Francis (W & A)
WHAT IT'S ABOUT: An action/sci-fi story that follows Ensign Alexander Jardin — the sole survivor of a human exploration ship destroyed by an unknown alien force — as he is thrust into the middle of an intergalactic war, light years away from home. To further his isolation, he is the only male on a ship of female alien warriors known as the Loroi.
WHY IT WORKS: Francis places the audience on equal footing with Ensign Jardin, by letting the reader discover important information at the same time that he does. Jardin's internal monologue is also extremely compelling and depicts a man who is struggling to find his way through a truly alien situation. Likewise, the Loroi are shown to be a convincingly alien culture that is at least partially telepathic, which often leaves Jardin completely out of the loop as they communicate directly with each other. Yesterday I brought you the joys and struggles Felicia Day experienced while filming the third season of her award-winning web series, “The Guild,” and what we can expect overall from Season Four. Today she reveals even more, speaking about the slew of bonus features on “The Guild: Season Three” DVD (in stores today!), casting friends, plus a missed casting opportunity of her own.
Included on the DVD is the not-quite-chart-topping yet absolutely spectacular performance of Day and cast in their debut music video, “Date My Avatar.”
“We have a behind-the-scenes of that that’s never been seen anywhere,” she said. “You get to see some of the dance rehearsals.” You also get to see the director of the music video and co-writer of the song, Jed Whedon. (That’s Joss Whedon’s little brother and co-writer of “Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog.”) Read more...

As one-half of the creative team behind "The Boys," writer Garth Ennis knows a thing or two about what makes his superhero-policing black ops squad work on the page — and, as I discovered in an interview with the popular author, what makes them ripe for big-screen adaptation, too.
"I do think 'The Boys' will be reasonably simple to make into a film — much easier than 'Preacher,'" Ennis told MTV News during last month's C2E2 convention in Chicago.
Comparing "The Boys" to his well-known Vertigo series that's had potential adaptations in the works for almost a decade now, the writer said the difference between "Preacher" and "The Boys" is that "once you start plucking enough of 'Preacher' to make a two-hour film, you have to leave so much out of it. And once you start taking bits out of it, the whole lot collapses."
"On the other hand, it would be quite easy to take 'The Boys' and take the core team of five and just have them as a team that surveils and occasionally beats up superheroes," he explained. "That's a simple enough concept that you could isolate it and put into a two-hour film as a self-contained story." Read more...

Last December, it was revealed that "Batman: Under The Red Hood" will be the next DC animated film released on DVD. Adapted by Judd Winick from a story he wrote in the "Batman" comic, "Under the Red Hood" deals with the return of Jason Todd, the second Robin who was brutally beaten to death by the Joker.
Although the latest voice of the Joker, John DiMaggio — best known for his comedic turn as Bender on "Futurama" — has cited Cesar Romero's Joker (from the Adam West era "Batman" TV series) as his primary inspiration, the actor has promised that his take on the Joker will still be dark.
"I actually would’ve loved to see Cesar Romero take the role to its darkness," said DiMaggio. "There was a bit of Cesar Romero in what I did, but it’s Cesar Romero if he was in 'A Clockwork Orange.'" Read more...

TV shows are dropping like flies this week. Yesterday, "Lost" dominated tweeting, and today it was "24."
Movies popped up too, though, with Jock showing off an "Losers" tribute to "Ocean's Eleven" and a couple up webcomics creators speaking up about "The Last Airbender." Of course there were some day-to-day work tweets as well. David Petersen was contemplating a "Fraggle Rock" cover. Jimmy Palmiotti was working patiently with Los Angeles, and Gail Simone was quite content to have seen "MacGruber." Find out how that made her feel below.

Earlier this month, "Iron Man 2" director Jon Favreau confirmed that Howard Stark — Tony's father — would have a part in "The First Avenger: Captain America."
And while Favreau cast "Mad Men" star John Slattery in the role during the latest "Iron Man" film, Marvel Studios will apparently go with a younger actor for "Captain America."
Dominic Cooper is "slatted to play Howard Stark" in "The First Avenger: Captain America," according to Salon (via Slash Film ). Cooper has previously appeared in "The Escapist," "Mamma Mia!," "The Duchess" and "Jericho." Read more...

Earlier this year, Temuera Morrison joined the cast of director Martin Campbell's "Green Lantern" as Abin Sur, the alien lantern who passes his ring on to Hal Jordan (Ryan Reynolds).
And while Abin Sur's death is a pivotal moment in the origin of Hal Jordan, it doesn't mean that Morrison won't return in any "Green Lantern" sequels.
“They want me to come back in the sequel," Morrison told Latino Review. "They want to show you my backend story for the next movie. They want to show you how I become part of Green Lantern Corps.” Read more...

Since the "Lost" series finale concluded Sunday night, Twitter friendships have been placed in jeopardy, "Battlestar Galactica" comparisons have been made, and occasionally satisfaction was experienced. While Brian Michael Bendis was unfollowing spoiler-posters, Ron Marz decided that he was OK with where the episode left everyone. Then there was Dennis Calero, who reached a common ground between the show's failures and successes.
All in all, it was night of fiery words and critical screams in the Twitter Report feed, but I've summed up the big picture in retweets below as best I could. You can read on through to find out where everyone stands, and if you make it to the end I can promise you a glimpse of the most disturbing horse costume you've ever laid eyes on.

Do you think Felicia Day knew the giant bag of loot she fell on the day she created her stupendously successful web series “The Guild?” Most likely not but with the DVD of the show’s third season hitting wide release this Tuesday, her raiding party is likely to be sporting some new gear pretty soon.
If that first paragraph made no sense to you, you may not be into online gaming but if you’re a fan of Day (‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” “Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog”) you may know enough to appreciate the humor.
“The Guild: Season Three” is wrapped but I recently spoke with Day about her ups and downs over the course of the latest episodes in the popular web series.
“The whole season was kind of a roller coaster,” she said. “I didn’t realize adding six other cast members to the equation was gonna be a little more complicated than previous seasons but it was actually the most fun to write.” Read more...
