If you're not in tune with The Force, you might not realize that May 21 is the 30th anniversary of the release of "The Empire Strikes Back" in theaters. Considered by many to be the best of the six-film "Star Wars" franchise, "Empire" holds a special place in my heart — mainly because of the toys.
You see, I was one of many kids who owned one of the original, massive AT-AT toys back in the day, and I'm also one of the many who no longer knows what the heck happened to that big, beautiful, four-legged hunk of awesome. Thank god for Hasbro, though, because they've got me — and anyone else longing for their old AT-AT — covered.
Check out the box that arrived at Splash Page HQ this afternoon, complete with Imperial logo stickers, then click on the image for a gallery of un-boxing photos:

Yeah, it's just as awesome as it looks — and then some. Read more...

THE STORY: "Jersey Gods" by Glen Brunswick (W) and Dan McDaid (A) — Image Comics

Last week, word broke that "Heroes" had been canceled by NBC after four seasons. And while the series is over, "Heroes" creator Tim Kring has expressed his interest in keeping the franchise alive in some fashion.
"I personally have had 12 great years with my friends at NBC, and with ‘Heroes,’ they provided me a rare opportunity to put a message of hope, interconnectivity and global consciousness into the world," said Kring in statement released on The Hollywood Reporter. "For that I am grateful and look forward to finalizing our discussion about a number of ways to keep the ‘Heroes’ universe alive for its fans.”
While there have been rumors that "Heroes" may return as a TV movie or miniseries, nothing has currently been confirmed. Read more...
Look, up in the sky! It's a bird! It's a plane! No – it's "Smallville" going off the air!
According to The Hollywood Reporter, "Smallville" will end its lengthy run at the conclusion of next year's tenth season. The CW is expected to make an official announcement regarding the cancellation of "Smallville" at its upfront presentation in New York City this Thursday.
THR notes that "Smallville" has been struggling for the past several years, with many expecting this ninth season to be the show's last. But to the surprise of many, "Smallville" performed unexpectedly well after moving to Friday nights and earned a tenth season renewal. Read more...

I truly am going to miss waking up to find out what the comics world thought of "Lost" the night before, but we've still got one more episode left. You may or may not share a common perspective on unresolved plot threads with Rob Liefeld, Mark Brooks and Rob Williams. You also may or may not share Ande Parks' thoughts on his former U.S. Senator from Pennsylvania Arlen Specter's lost his primary yesterday.
Everyone, however, can share Avengers Day with Brian Michael Bendis. He and David Aja both decided to celebrate in their own ways. Find out if you want to follow their leads after the jump. There, you can also see Jonathan Hickman's favorite Legion villains and how Mike Oeming reacts when he's mistaken for David Petersen.
It's all retweeted in the Twitter Report for May 19, 2010. Read more...

Earlier this year, Nick Stoller ("Forgetting Sarah Marshall") came onboard the upcoming "Stretch Armstrong" adaptation as a screenwriter, joining director Rob Letterman ("Monsters vs. Aliens") and "Twilight" star Taylor Lautner in the title role.
And while the original "Stretch Armstrong" toy is essentially a blank slate, Stoller recently indicated that the film will feature an entirely new version of the character with a slightly more conventional tone.
"Rob had a great take on 'Stretch' and he told me about it, and I said, 'Please let me write it,'" said Stoller during an interview with ComingSoon.net. "It's a superhero origin story taking it totally seriously, kind of in the 'Iron Man' tone — for lack of a better descriptor. We're taking it seriously, but it will have a light tone to it." Earlier this month, we reported the news that "Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World" would receive some extra footage, courtesy of some reshoots ordered by director Edgar Wright. Calling the extra scenes "icing on the cake," Wright explained that some of the content originated with the upcoming sixth volume of Bryan Lee O'Malley's hit comic book series.
MTV News caught up with "Scott Pilgrim" actor Jason Schwartzman on the set of his HBO series "Bored To Death" to ask him about the reshoots.
"Yes, a little bit," responded Schwartzman when asked if he was involved in the scenes receiving some extra footage. Read more...

In just under a month, director Jimmy Hayward's adaptation of "Jonah Hex" will hit theaters with Josh Brolin in the title role and John Malkovich as his nemesis, Quentin Turnbull.
And while the recently released trailer suggests that Hex will have supernatural abilities within the film, Malkovich recently confirmed that his character will remain relatively grounded in his quest for vengeance.
"[Turnbull] feels [that] Jonah has caused his son to be killed in a way, so there’s a big sort of revenge factor there," said Malkovich during an interview with Comic Book Resources. "My character’s not so much involved with [the supernatural]. Maybe a tiny bit. At a point in the story, Hex has kind of aberrations, and I appear very briefly as one of those, and we sort of work that out together. It wasn’t really quite what’s in the script." Read more...

Earlier this month, Sony officially announced that "Men In Black 3" was finally moving forward towards a 2012 release. And it now appears that the studio has cast Jemaine Clement as one of the primary villains.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Clement is in final negotiations to portray "Boris" in "Men in Black 3," confirming rumors that first appeared back in March.
Clement's character is said to be a villain and is described as being "charmy and creepy at the same time." The character was called "Yaz" in an earlier draft of the script. Read more...
Back in 2008, Marvel Studios signed a long term lease at Raleigh Studios in Manhattan Beach, California and promised that Marvel's next four feature films would be filmed there.
And while Marvel has kept to its promise for "Iron Man 2" and "Thor," "The First Avenger: Captain America" will be filmed almost entirely in London, without any scenes of the film to be shot in Los Angeles.
"I actually had location scouts here to see what could be done,'' said Marvel Studios co-President Louis D'Esposito during an interview with the Los Angeles Times. "But it would have required so much visual-effects work and set construction, it didn't make sense." Read more...
