News involving the "Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark" musical hasn't exactly been optimistic lately, with previously cast Green Goblin actor Alan Cumming and the show's Mary Jane Watson actress Evan Rachel Wood both leaving the production after multiple delays.

However, lead actor Reeve Carney is still planning to make his debut as Peter Parker this fall, and shared some details about it when he dropped by MTV HQ this afternoon with his band, Carney. In fact, the musician-turned-actor said he's trying on the Spider-Man suit today!

"No joke — right after this, I'm going to get fitted for my Spider-Man suit," he told MTV News. "As soon as I put this microphone down... This is actually not a joke." Read more...

HeroesAfter NBC officially announced that “Heroes” had been canceled, fans immediately began putting together “Bring Back Heroes” petitions, and even trending the topic on Twitter for a few hours.

According to many reports, not even a television movie was discussed at NBC’s upfronts in New York City on Monday, so it appears the show’s future is all but sealed.

But is it?

“Heroes” was as close as most networks get to airing a comic book on television. In addition, NBC filled in the gaps between episodes and added backstory to most of it’s characters via the "Heroes" webcomic, two volumes of which have already been collected by DC Comics’ Wildstorm imprints, with a third on the way. All of this begs the question: Could the show continue in that format? Read more...

Red MistMark Millar and Christopher Mintz-Plasse have been exchanging ideas for "Kick-Ass 2," and Millar may have been putting pen to paper today to decide who Red Mist's sidekick will be for the sequel. Right now, they look to be deciding what the character's gender might be. Mintz-Plasse apparently put in a request for an attractive female.

In TV land, seasons are ending all over the place. Neil Kleid wasn't too keen on "Smallville." Let's face it, though, every other is show is pretty much taking a backseat to the end of "Lost" right now, though. Check out what Kleid said below, along with a casting proposal for "Judge Dredd," daddy issues in the Marvel Universe and what Terry Moore has been working on.

The CapeOkay, so color me intrigued by this one, folks. Among the new series picked up by NBC for the 2010-2011 season is a superhero series titled "The Cape" that looks, well... pretty decent?

Starring David Lyons ("ER"), Summer Glau ("Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles"), and — wait for it — Keith David (too many awesome movies to count), the series follows a cop who's framed and left for dead, only to return to action as a masked hero. The network has posted a preview of the series on its official website.

And maybe I'm totally off-base here, but it actually looks kind of cool. (I especially dig the Vinnie Jones cameo.) Read more...

The Black PearlVeteran actor Mark Hamill is set to direct an adaptation of his comic "The Black Pearl."

Hamill has reportedly secured $7 million in funding from Berkeley Square Films, according to Variety. Hamill will also co-write the film with Paul Tamasy ("The Fighter") and Eric Johnson.

"The Black Pearl" was originally published by Dark Horse comics in 1996 as a five issue miniseries. The story followed a "troubled man" named Luthor Drake, who accidentally becomes a masked hero and a media sensation. Hamill and Johnson co-wrote the original series with artists H. M. Baker, Bruce Patterson and Dan Schaeffer. Read more...

Stephen LangEven unapologetic fans of Arnold Schwarzenegger's over-the-top "Conan" films will probably admit that by the time Hall of Fame center Wilt Chamberlain popped up in the 1984's "Conan the Destroyer," the franchise had veered from campily charming to just plain silly. But the upcoming adaption of "Conan," starring Jason Momoa and Stephen Lang, is set to return the title character to his roots as the roguish warrior of Robert E. Howard's original stories.

"I think we're right in the spirit of Howard," Lang recently told MTV News during a phone call from Sofia, Bulgaria, where he's been staying during the shoot. "It's got the same kind of lurid quality. The purple prose of Robert E. Howard is really being translated to the screen."

"One of the things about his prose that's so distinct is that it takes itself very seriously," he explained. "There's nothing tongue-in-cheek about it at all. And there's nothing send-up about the world we're creating, though hopefully the movie is made with a lot of wit." Read more...

Terrence HowardIn 2008, Marvel Studios unexpectedly replaced Terrence Howard in "Iron Man 2" by casting Don Cheadle as Jim Rhodes (a.k.a. War Machine). And while rumors about the decision have persisted for almost two years, Howard recently insisted that there's no acrimony from the move.

"Despite the customary idea or thought that there's some controversy, it was a wonderful split and I know that they've done well," Howard told E Online. "Marvel and I are now talking about doing some other things. And Don Cheadle wanted to play that part before I wanted to play it, so everything is very well."

"I haven't had a chance yet but I will see 'Iron Man 2,'" revealed Howard. "Robert Downey Jr. was born to play that part and it was wonderful that that part has given him the stature that he was supposed to hold before. For me to have recommended him, it means all the more so that I helped someone get to where they are supposed to go." Read more...

Alpha FlightWhile it looks like "Splice" (and "Cube") director Vincenzo Natali might have a little while to wait before he can make a movie about Alan Moore's "Swamp Thing" comics, DC's earthy hero isn't the only comic book property the filmmaker has his eye on.

When MTV News asked Natali if there were any other characters he'd love to bring to the big screen, he was quick to suggest a movie based on Canadian super-team Alpha Flight as the perfect way to put a new spin on the current superhero movie trend.

"I have thought about that a little bit," said Natali when asked about the possibility of making a lower-budget movie about lesser-known comic characters. "I'll put this out there: maybe Alpha Flight." Read more...
