One of the most anticipated projects around Splash Page HQ these days is AMC's upcoming television series "The Walking Dead," based on Robert Kirkman's best-selling, post-apocalyptic zombie saga, and directed by celebrated filmmaker Frank Darabont.
Over on the network's official "Walking Dead" blog, they've posted the first images from the set of the series, as well as a video interview with Darabont.
Production kicked off on the set of the series this week, and now that much of the "Walking Dead" cast has been finalized, we're getting our first look at the story's other stars: the zombies.
Here's a few of the photos from the blog featuring some "walkers" in all their undead glory:

And here's the interview with Darabont:
Just in case you aren't able to watch it, here are some of the comments that caught my ear/eye:
"That's all I've wanted to do since I was 14 years old," said Darabont of telling a zombie story.
"We are definitely taking a page from George Romero's mythos here," he said. "There was always that pressure cooker at the core of it — that ensemble of characters that were trying very hard to either do the right thing or get away with the doing the wrong thing with impunity."
"This is a story about a group of people trying to survive difficult to impossible circumstances," he said of the series's theme. "They need to figure out how to survive it, but they also need to figure out how to survive each other."
And finally: "We hope to do for zombies what 'Mad Men' has done for advertising," laughed Darabont.
"The Walking Dead" is set to premiere in October.
