"Green Lantern" won't hit theaters for another year, but fans will grow accustomed to Hal Jordan and his surrounding world a whole lot sooner if DC Entertainment has its way.
Warner Bros. Consumer Products, DC Comics and Mattel issued a statement today announcing their partnership on all things "Green Lantern" in the months leading up to the film's June 2011 release — in other words, prepare yourselves for an onslaught of "Green Lantern" action figures and other similar merchandise.
"The 'Green Lantern' film has an incredibly wide merchandise appeal," said "Green Lantern" producer Donald De Line in the statement. "The potential is there for amazing toys and merchandise because Green Lantern's ring can create anything the imagination can conjure. From space stations and vehicles to alien action figures, the possibilities are just endless."
Mattel's "Green Lantern" merchandise plan includes several forms of action figures, play sets, puzzles, vehicles and other products. In addition, each "Green Lantern" action figure comes equipped with a Green Lantern ring that consumers can wear themselves.
"Mattel's 'Green Lantern' toy program is going to introduce Green Lanterns like Hal Jordan and Kilowog to new fans everywhere," said Geoff Johns, the chief creative officer of DC Entertainment and monthly "Green Lantern" comic book writer. "It is going to be amazing to watch the world discover the Green Lantern mythology."
In addition to "Green Lantern" merchandise, Mattel is stepping up efforts on "Young Justice" and "Batman: The Brave and the Bold" products.
