The annual gaming mecca E3 (Electronic Entertainment Expo) is in full swing in Los Angeles right now, and while our colleagues at Multiplayer are on the floor bringing their gaming-savvy readers updates from the show, here's one item that should be particularly interesting for comic fans: the world premiere of the "DC Universe Online" game trailer.

Written by a comics dream team that includes such veterans as Jim Lee, Geoff Johns and Marv Wolfman, "DC Universe Online" is a massive, online multiplayer game featuring a large stable of DC's best-known heroes and villains interacting with user-created, superpowered characters. Read More...

DeadpoolWhile a lot of filmmakers usually get offered a project before production even begins, every now and then we hear about an offer that's worth noting just because it's so darn intriguing.

Case in point: An item in the latest issue of Production Weekly that reportedly indicates that "Sin City" director Robert Rodriguez has been offered the upcoming "Deadpool" movie starring Ryan Reynolds. Now, I write "reportedly" because I'm not able to actually read the story in the issue, but The Playlist has tipped readers off to the report — which they claim to have verified with a source close to the film.

Of course, it's worth noting again that nothing is official, but it certainly provides some food for thought, doesn't it? Read More...

Jaimie AlexanderBack in March, actress Jaimie Alexander posted an update on Twitter about her role in "Thor," saying she had to "get even more fit" to play the Asgardian warrior Sif.

Now it looks like we have our first look at Alexander in costume, courtesy of Entertainment Tonight's recent "Thor" set visit. Over at SuperHeroHype, they've posted a trio of low-res screenshots from the broadcast featuring Alexander in the midst of some wire-work on the set.

The images don't seem to indicate much correlation between the live-action Sif's costume and that of her comics counterpart, with the character's winged helmet (a recurring element in her costume over the years) being the most notable omission. Read More...

DrakeWhile the career of Grammy-nominated musician Drake doesn't typically fall within our realm of coverage here on Splash Page, some recent news seemed to merit a mention — if only to provide further evidence of the power comics can occasionally wield outside their own industry.

Late last week, Epic Games and Microsoft Game Studios announced plans to cast Drake as the voice of one of the main characters in "Gears of War 3," the upcoming third installment in the wildly successful Xbox 360 video game series. Why should you care? Well, Drake will play Jace Stratton, a character who briefly appeared in "Gears of War 2," but rose to prominence in the ongoing "Gears of War" comic book series published by Wildstorm.

Apparently, the comic book series found enough of a following to merit not only a jump into the next iteration of the game, but also a high-profile casting. Hooray for comics! Read More...

It's been a while since we've heard anything definite regarding "Ant-Man," the planned live-action film featuring Marvel's size-changing, insect-controlling hero. Tagged to be co-written and directed by "Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World" filmmaker Edgar Wright, the film is intended to put the spotlight on Hank Pym, one of the founding members of The Avengers, as well as his successor, burglar-turned-hero Scott Lang.

When MTV News spoke to Wright recently about putting the final touches on "Scott Pilgrim," the comic book movie that's currently occupying all his time, he offered an update of sorts on the "Ant-Man" front, too.

"Once I finish ['Scott Pilgrim'] and collapse for at least a month, I'm going to get back into writing it," he said. "I wrote a draft before 'Scott Pilgrim' and my second draft is very much overdue to Marvel." Read More...

Al WilliamsonReports began tricking out into the Twitter Report feed last night that legendary artist Al Williamson passed away. There's been some debate about the original source of the news, but as of right now I haven't seen official confirmation. Nonetheless, memories and appreciations have been trending all morning.

News of country singer turned breakfast sausage brand man Jimmy Dean also prompted some reactions, as did the continuing discussion about Donald Glover wanting a shot at playing Spider-Man. In regards to the latter, Erik Larsen sounded off on the subject and criticized baseline expectations for black heroes in comics, including Luke Cage specifically.

On one final note, let it be known that in addition to reading Neil Kleid's opinions on World Cup soccer, I also enjoy his considerable creative talents on occasion and highly recommend "The Big Khan" and "Ursa Minors."

Spider-Man Theme Park RideEver since Disney closed the deal to acquire Marvel, speculation has centered on whether Disney would be able to fully utilize its new library of characters given the number of preexisting deals that Marvel had in place.

Although it appears that the film rights to major franchises like "Spider-Man" and "X-Men" won't be coming back anytime soon, the Marvel superheroes may still end up coming to the various Disney theme parks worldwide.

"We're just now considering all of our different options, so it would be premature to say when or where in the parks you would see Marvel characters," Disney President and CEO Bob Iger told The Los Angeles Times. "But I think it's safe to say that you're going to see some of those great Marvel characters walking around in the future." Read More...

Christopher NolanEarlier this year, it was officially announced that Christopher Nolan will return to direct a third "Batman" film. And while there has been speculation that the follow-up to "The Dark Knight" would be filmed in 3-D, Nolan recently made his feelings on the subject crystal clear.

"I'm not a huge fan of 3-D," said Nolan during an appearance at the Los Angeles Times Hero Complex Film Festival. "There are a lot of problems with [shooting in 3-D]. The idea of shooting a whole film through a massive beam-splitter and so forth — there are enormous compromises. Post-conversion technologies probably, for me, are definitely the future, but really it is up to the audiences what they want to see and how they want to watch their films."

However, Nolan also added "There is no question if audiences want to watch films in stereoscopic imaging, that's what the studios will be doing, and that's what I'll be doing." Read More...
