SupermanThe Man of Steel could be coming to a city near you.

Earlier this week, "Superman # 700" kicked off a year long storyline that will feature Superman walking across America to reconnect with its people. As a tie in to that story, DC Comics has announceda contest that gives readers a chance to submit their towns as potential destinations for the Last Son of Krypton.

The winning towns will be depicted in the pages of "Superman" as the storyline unfolds. The only catch is that the only towns eligible are those that are within 50 miles of Superman's planned trip through Chicago, Des Moines, Omaha, Denver, Salt Lake City, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Portland and Seattle. Contestants must also submit an essay explaining why Superman should visit their towns, preferably with pictures included. Read more...

The next film from Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment's celebrated line of full-length animated features is "Batman: Under The Red Hood," and the first clip from the upcoming release hit the 'Net today.

Adapted by writer Judd Winick from a story he wrote in DC's "Batman" series, "Under The Red Hood" chronicles the arrival of a dangerous new character on the streets of Gotham whose loyalties are as mysterious as his identity. Batman must make some tough decisions in order to deal with The Red Hood — decisions that affect his outlook on both his past and future. Read more...

"The Twilight Saga: Eclipse" filmmaker David Slade will not be directing "The Shadow," and online rumors that he'd be behind the camera for a Sam Raimi-produced take on the classic pulp hero were "lies."

That's the word straight from the mouth of the "Eclipse" (and "30 Days of Night") director, during an interview with MTV News.

"Lies," said Slade of the anonymously sourced report that surfaced on Latino Review back in March. "Not true. Total internet rumor." Read more...

Chewbacca Whilce PortacioThe first "Red" trailer for the film based on Warren Ellis and Cully Hamner's comic of the same name is out on the Internet and starting discussions. Both of the book's creators offered commentary via Twitter, as did a few of their colleagues.

Elsewhere, some post-Avengers retreat assessments continued to trickle in over the last 24 hours, and I've got Ed Brubaker and Christos Gage's thoughts retweeted below. The recap for today also lets you in on who had to negotiate work time with Wimbledon watching, how awesome it looks when Whilce Portacio draws Chewbacca and who Olivia Wilde deems worthy of the distinction "bad ass" on the "Cowboys and Aliens" set.

My name is @brianwarmoth, and I made a comics-related mix tape of tweets for you in the Twitter Report for June 24, 2010. Read more...

Last month, "Stretch Armstrong" screenwriter Nick Stoller compared the tone of the upcoming film based on a Hasbro toy to the tone of 2008's "Iron Man." If you're expecting gauntlet lasers and an arc reactor, however, you might want to check out what the film's star, "Twilight" alum Taylor Lautner, had to say about his hero's powers.

"It's like the worst superhero power, possibly, to get," he told MTv News. "How you're going to take that and use it for good and how you're going to be creative with that [is the predicament]." Read more...

BayouTHE STORY: "Bayou" by Jeremy Love — Zuda Comics

WHAT IT'S ABOUT: The year is 1933. Lee Wagstaff is a young African-American girl living in the racially tense town of Charon, Mississippi. After witnessing the abduction of her white playmate by a mysterious swamp creature, Lee finds her father accused of the kidnapping. To rescue both her friend and her father, Lee embarks on a quest into a frightening fantasy-filled world alongside Bayou, a green swamp monster with plenty of stature and plenty of heart.

WHY IT WORKS: One of the earliest stories to premiere on DC's online imprint Zuda Comics, "Bayou" is a deeply moving work on multiple levels. It's filled with visceral eye candy that never ceases to pop, monstrous creatures that both horrify and amaze. But beyond the fantasy setting, "Bayou" is an expertly crafted examination of racism, issues of identity, self-exploration and courage in the face of adversity. From both literal and metaphorical standpoints, "Bayou" is a beautiful piece of fiction. Read more...

It's been a while since we last heard anything about "Red," the upcoming film directed by Robert Schwentke and based on Warren Ellis and Cully Hamner's 2003 comic book miniseries. However, the first news in a while is big news, with the debut of the first trailer for the film.

Featuring an all-star cast that includes Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, John Malkovich, Helen Mirren, and Mary Louise-Parker, the film follows a group of retired CIA agents who get back into action after a hit squad sets its sights on them.

The film hits theaters October 15.

Archie & FriendsLast week, we told you about the upcoming issue of "Archie & Friends" that parodies MTV's "The Jersey Shore." Well, we've got more for you today from the Riverdale Gang's encounter with a familiar group of tan- and gel-happy residents of the local beach.

Thanks to the good folks at Archie Comics, you can now check out the first five pages of "Archie & friends" #145, which hits shelves July 14. (You can also order it online at ArchieComics.com.) It's written by Dan Parent, and features all of the hijinks that would naturally ensue if Archie and the gang crossed paths with Snackums, The Commotion, J-Pow and the rest of the Archie-fied "Jersey Shore" crew.

Okay, maybe not all the hijinks, but you get the idea... Read more...

Scott PilgrimConfession: I wish I was more like the version of me that I created on the "Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World" website.

Yeah, my "Scott Pilgrim" me looks like a pretty fun guy, even if he is a bit of a frat boy. It helps that he's also rated "Awesome," too — since the real-life me is rated "Relatively Tolerable".

Oh, did I forget to mention how awesome the new "Create Your Own Avatar" program is on the official "Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World" website? No? Well, check it out for yourself and I think you'll agree that it's very awesome... very awesome, indeed. Read more...

DC Comics iPad AppPaul Cornell picked a timely week to go exclusive with house of Superman and Batman, as a DC Comics iPad App magically appeared last night in Apple's App Store. This move by the Warner Bros.-owned publisher obviously commanded quite a few tweet responses, and I've retweeted a few of the most relevant ones below.

In the meantime, you can also check out what Cornell's first order of business was today, what Chris Samnee's favorite "Doctor Who" episode is, and what biting words Frank Tieri had for FIFA in regards to the World Cup this year.
