Since the release of "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," Liev Schrieber has expressed his desire to reprise his role as Sabretooth in the upcoming sequel. But while Schrieber seemed optimistic about his chances before, he seems decidedly less so now.
When asked by IGN whether he would return for the "Wolverine" sequel, Schriber replied, "It's not in my hands. It's a studio thing. People liked the character, it seemed like people liked the character. And I'd love to do it again, but I think the storyline that they're going to go with is in Japan."
"I try not to second-guess the studios," continued Schriber. "But I feel like sometimes when they make a sequel they have to have a new villain. I haven't even seen the script."
Schriber previously told MTV News that he also wants to explore how his version of Sabretooth became the Tyler Mane Sabretooth seen in the first "X-Men" film
Last year, it was confirmed that "Wolverine 2' will be set in Japan. It's also expected to be based upon the classic "Wolverine" miniseries by Chris Claremont and Frank Miller that pit Wolverine against Shingen Yashida, the head of a Yakuza crime family.
More recently, Hugh Jackman praised the script for the sequel and confirmed that the majority of the film will be shot in Japan .
"Wolverine 2" is expected to begin filming in January, 2011.
