While Marvel Studios appears to be focused on the upcoming "Thor," "Captain America" and "The Avengers" films, it appears that the company is also getting ready to begin production on "Runaways."
According to Production Weekly, "Runaways" will start filming in January 2011 until July 2011. Earlier this year, Joss Whedon and Peter Sollett were reportedly the finalists to direct the film before it ultimately went to Sollett and Whedon was linked to "The Avengers." "No Heroics" creator Drew Pearce signed on to write the screenplay back in May.
Originally created in 2003 by Brian K. Vaughan and Adrian Alphon, "Runaways" follows a group of teenagers who discover that their parents are secretly supervillains. The revelation causes them to flee their parents and attempt to defeat them while discovering their own powers and special abilities along the way.
Back in 2008, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige identified "Runaways" as a likely project to follow "The Avengers" to the big screen.
"I love the idea. Brian brought to Marvel one of the best new concepts that we've had in quite some time," Feige told MTV News. "I love the idea of kids banding together, discovering this thing, which I think all kids secretly wonder at one time or another whether their parents are good or evil. Well, these guys find out, unfortunately, that their parents happen to be supervillains."
"I think it won't be a precise story line of any [of Vaughan's comics]," continued Feige. "But certainly it will be most similar to the tone or origins of his structure in its initial run."
