Earlier this month, several rumors indicated that "Twilight" star Taylor Lautner was approached for a role in "X-Men: First Class."
And although the reports were initially scoffed at by industry observers — and even Hugh Jackman himself — there was apparently some truth to the rumors, according to "X-Men: First Class" producer, Bryan Singer.
"I wanted Taylor [Lautner] to do it, I really did," Singer told Blastr. "He's doing a movie in Pittsburgh called 'Abduction' and then he's got the next 'Twilight' movie. We talked about it a lot, he is a friend, and I really wanted to make it work. It just doesn't look like it's possible to do it."
Singer also addressed the reports that Kevin Bacon is in talks to play the villain, in addition to confirming other cast members.
"Kevin Bacon I do believe is going to happen," related Singer. "James McAvoy is definitely cast as a young Charles Xavier, Mike Fassbender is in the movie, Nick Hoult, those are for sure."
"When I got to London four weeks ago, there was only one actor cast for sure, and that was really scary," continued Singer. "I looked at this big board with all the characters and there was only one person cast, McAvoy, and yeah, that was really, really scary."
Singer also indicated that he is not going to direct "Wolverine 2," which is currently scheduled to shoot early next year.
Back in March, Singer was forced to step down from directing "First Class' due to his commitment to "Jack The Giant Killer" for Warner Brothers. Matthew Vaughn soon signed on to direct the film on an accelerated time table in order for it to be released next year.
"X-Men: First Class" will materialize in theaters on June 3, 2011.
