"The Goon" may not have full funding yet, but that didn't stop David Fincher from getting behind his animated film adaptation of Eric Powell's quirky horror/noir series. The "Fight Club" and "Social Network" director admitted that 2010 marked his first trip San Diego for Comic-Con International, but he hopes the trip will prove worthwhile and result in financial backing to get the project completed and out to audiences.
"It doesn't make any sense to make a movie that people say, 'We can't sell this,' so it should find a place where people go, 'We understand how to get this to theaters,'" Fincher told MTV News.
In order for "The Goon" to make it out there, though, Fincher and his partners will need to find someone with some cash to get their project where they want it to go.
"We don't want to do anybody any favors, you know, and we don't want them to do us any favors," he explained. "We want everybody to be aligned."
Getting a group to line up straight at Comic-Con is a major feat, as anyone who's ever been there will know. The "Goon" team picked the biggest possible spotlight they could find for getting their product in front of Hollywood eyes looking for comics-related projects, though, so only time will tell if they connected with the right parties.
