Edgar Wright must have gotten his wish from yesterday, because because Terry Moore reported a Sigourney Weaver sighting at the "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World" premiere last night. Pictures were posted, reactions were tweeted and Wright himself got to talk to Rivers Cuomo.
At some point down the line, we'll likely be seeing an "X-Men: First Class" premiere attended by Edi Gathegi, judging from the news this week that he'll play Darwin in the film. The character's creator Ed Brubaker posted his thoughts on the subject, which you can read after the jump along with news about what Mark Millar's working on, Ben Templesmith's new fashion pledge and a crucial question to contemplate if you ever meet up with Sam Raimi's people.

When "Captain America: The First Avenger" hits the big screen in 2011, Chris Evans won't be carrying the entire weight of the World War II hero's origin story on his shoulders — he'll have Cap's sidekick Bucky to share the burden.
Evans spoke with MTV News at Comic-Con last week and praised the work of Sebastian Stan, the young actor chosen to join the battlefield alongside Rogers as James Buchanan "Bucky" Barnes in "Captain America."
"Sebastian Stan is fantastic. He just started his first day at work. They make for a great relationship," Evans told MTV. "So far, I think the plot line between Steve and Bucky has been fantastic." Read more...

A few hours prior to the unveiling of "The Avengers" cast at the San Diego Comic-Con International, director Joss Whedon indicated that Ant-Man — one of the original members of the team in the comics — would not be used within the film. However, it may be director Edgar Wright's take on Ant-Man that helped determine whether the character would appear or not.
"I talked to [Marvel Studios President] Kevin Feige about that a while back where we just discussed about whether [Ant-Man] would be in 'The Avengers.'" Wright told Cinema Blend. "The thing is, the script that I’ve written, you know, whether it’s next or not I don’t know, the chronology of it or the way it works wouldn’t really fit in with what they do. And my film is very much an introduction to that character, and so it wasn’t something where it felt right to introduce him in that film." Read more...

Most of us have to wait another week to see "Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World," but out in Los Angeles the whole cast was on hand yesterday for the West Coast premiere of director Edgar Wright's adaptation of Bryan Lee O'Malley's celebrated comic book series.
Along with Scott Pilgrim himself, Michael Cera, the premiere featured appearances by Knives Chau (Ellen Wong), Gideon Graves (Jason Schwartzman), Ramona Flowers (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), and many, many others.
"Scott Pilgrim" hits theaters August 13.

It's no secret that I'm a big fan of "Lucid," the soon-to-hit-shelves comic written by "True Blood" actor Michael McMillian and illustrated by newcomer Anna Wieszczyk. The first project to come out of a partnership between publisher Archaia Entertainment and "Star Trek" actor Zachary Quinto's media house Before The Door Pictures, "Lucid" made its debut during Comic-Con last weekend, and the first issue will officially hit shelves in August.
I managed to get some time with McMillian and Quinto in San Diego to talk about the comic, the origin of the "Lucid" universe, and what attracted Quinto to the project.
"'Lucid' takes place in an alternate universe where major world powers have combat mages — magicians that are working for them as secret agents, fighting the good fight, protecting national security and also overseeing the more paranormal things that go on in the world," explained McMillian. Earlier this month, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige announced that Ed Norton would not reprise his role as the Hulk in "The Avengers," drawing a strong rebuke from Norton's agent and a more measured response from Norton himself.
Although Mark Ruffalo was revealed as Norton's replacement during the San Diego Comic-Con, the topic has continued to generate discussion, even during an interview with "Iron Man" director and "Avengers" producer, Jon Favreau — who went through a similar situation when he recast Don Cheadle as Jim Rhodes in place of Terrence Howard during "Iron Man 2."
"It's tricky," Favreau told IGN. "I know Edward, and I dig the guy's talent tremendously. He's always been a very great guy... I'm sure that however this comes out, it's going to be something that's amenable to both the filmmaker and the studio." Read more...

With a rich mythology filled with gods, frost giants, enchanted suits of armor and other powerful creatures, Chris Hemsworth is bound to face some difficult foes when he wields the mighty hammer Mjolnir as the title character in director Kenneth Branagh's "Thor" for Marvel Studios.
But there's perhaps no single opponent greater than Loki, Thor's mischievous half-brother played by English actor Tom Hiddleston. In fact, Hemsworth confirmed to MTV News that he shares a major fight sequence opposite Hiddleston in "Thor," something that was both amusing and somewhat terrifying to film.
"Yeah, we did, actually," Hemsworth confirmed to MTV News when asked if Thor will battle Loki in the film. "It was funny." Read more...

The cast of "X-Men: First Class" has just evolved by one — a very significant one at that.
According to Deadline Hollywood, "The Twilight Saga" star Edi Gathegi is the latest actor to come aboard for director Matthew Vaughn's "X-Men" film, joining the cast as the young mutant known as Darwin. Featuring the mutant ability to reactively evolve, Darwin is able to grow gills to breathe with while underwater, create fire-resistant skin while exposed to flames, see with perfect clarity through pitch dark surroundings and much more. "Thor" hits theaters in May 2011. "Captain America: The First Avenger" arrives just a few months later. In 2012, "The Avengers" brings the two aforementioned heroes together with Iron Man and Hulk in one colossal team-up movie. And then... what?
That's the question I posed to Marvel Editor-in-Chief Joe Quesada when he dropped by Splash Page HQ during Comic-Con. While he couldn't drop any specifics of their post-"Avengers" movie plan, he did hint that there is a plan — and it extends well beyond Earth's Mightiest Heroes.
"We are thinking about those things right now," Quesada told MTV News. "There's no question about it. It's not lost upon us that we say, 'Okay, we have one great franchise rolling right now in 'Iron Man,' we're going to have another one rolling in 'Thor,' and another in 'Captain America,' and I'm pretty sure those movies are going to be fantastic and have sequels of their own." Ryan Reynolds is starring in "Green Lantern." He's also playing Deadpool in a spinoff of "X-Men Origins: Wolverine." He's also a future member of R.I.P.D. and a former ally of the vampire-hunting Blade. Seriously, is there any comic book property that Reynolds hasn't touched?
Okay, so perhaps Reynolds hasn't exactly monopolized the comic book movie scene — not yet, at least. With his starring turns as Green Lantern and Deadpool on the horizon, one could make the argument that Reynolds is getting greedy in amassing as many superhero roles as he can get.
But don't make the mistake of saying that to Reynolds, as the actor will clearly tell you that Deadpool is anything but a superhero. Read more...
