The "Iron Fist" movie is on the way with "xXx" screenwriter Rich Wilkes on board to tackle the script. But even as the project moves forward, some big questions remain — namely, who's going to direct the film and, just as importantly, who's going to star as Danny Rand?
In today's edition of "Secret Identity," we're suggesting five names that Marvel should consider for their forthcoming big screen martial arts epic!
Ray Park
Previously connected to "Iron Fist" during its development nearly ten years ago, "Star Wars" star Ray Park remained enthusiastic about the Marvel property as recently as last year. Park is in his late thirties these days, but the martial artist could easily portray Rand as a seasoned veteran. On the flip side, he might have a hard time playing a more youthful version of the character.
Ryan Phillippe
Former "Captain America" candidate Ryan Phillippe might seem like an unlikely choice for Iron Fist, but the actor actually has some martial arts experience to his name having earned a black belt in Tae Kwon Do earlier in his life. With some additional training, Phillippe could combine his martial arts skills with his considerable talent as an actor for a terrific performance as Rand.
Cam Gigandet
Before you go crying "Twilight" on us, just know that "Priest" star Cam Gigandet is a Krav Maga expert with plenty of skill to bring to the role of "Iron Fist." He's proven that he can kick butt on numerous occasions — particularly in "Never Back Down" — and on top of that, Gigandet bears a striking resemblance to Danny.
Ryan Kwanten
Unintentionally continuing the vampire trend is Ryan Kwanten, the Australian actor who plays the dim-witted Jason Stackhouse on "True Blood." An extremely gifted and versatile actor, Kwanten would have little trouble transforming himself into Iron Fist, though he might need some training in the martial arts department.
Garrett Hedlund
Like Phillippe, Garrett Hedlund was once mentioned for "Captain America" before Chris Evans landed the coveted part. But the "Tron Legacy" star's physique lends itself much easier to a starring role in "Iron Fist." Based on the footage we've seen from the "Tron" sequel, it appears that Hedlund has more than enough talent to bring to the role of Danny Rand.
