"Scott Pilgrim" Vs. The World" is officially in theaters here in the U.S., meaning the wait is over for everyone eagerly anticipating Edgar Wright's adaptation of Bryan Lee O'Malley's popular comic book series.

Of course, that also means that the comic's legions of fans will soon have a chance to judge whether the live-action film measures up to its source material — a pressure that "Scott Pilgrim" actors Satya Bhabha (who plays evil ex #1, Matthew Patel) and Brandon Routh (evil ex #3, Todd Ingram) were well aware of when making the movie.

"There was certainly pressure," said Bhabha when I asked him during this year's Comic-Con in San Diego if the cast felt the weight of fan expectations. Read more...

Just as the world of "Scott Pilgrim" wouldn't be possible without Bryan Lee O'Malley, the forthcoming film adaptation would be vastly different without the directorial supervision of Edgar Wright. The "Shaun of the Dead" and "Hot Fuzz" filmmaker had a very specific vision for "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World," a vision that the film's cast fully embraced with open arms.

"He has a vision and he's very precise — he knows exactly what he wants," actress Aubrey Plaza told MTV News about working with Wright. "For me, it was kind of about figuring out what I wanted to bring and combine that with his vision and kind of nail it. It's all about timing with him. It was a learning experience for me, and it was challenging, but it was a really, really good experience." Read more...

Despite some teases, Marvel Studios is keeping their post-"Avengers" plans fairly close to the vest, with one notable exception: a planned adaptation of "Runaways," based on Brian K. Vaughan and Adrian Alphona's popular comic book series.

"Runaways" focuses on six youngsters who learn that their parents are all members of a legion of super-villains known as The Pride, resulting in our heroes' quest to bring their folks to justice. It's an endlessly entertaining ride filled with comedy, action and heartbreak aplenty, necessitating a top notch cast of young actors to fill out the main "Runaways" roles.

Casting such an adaptation is no easy feat, but we're going to give it our best shot — after the jump, see our picks for the "Runaways" cast! Read more...

Last Man StandingDan LuVisi's "Last Man Standing" reportedly sold out within two hours at this year's San Diego Comic-Con. And now it appears to be on the fast track as a potential Hollywood franchise.

According to Deadline, Paramount has closed a deal with LuVisi to develop "Last Man Standing" as a multimedia property. Stephan Lokotsch, Russell Binder and Peter Levin are attached as executive producers, with Scott Aversano and LuVisi also attached as producers.

"Last Man Standing" takes place in the far future and follows an invincible soldier named Gabriel who is a celebrated hero after leading the forces of Earth to victory over Mars. Scott PilgrimLet me get this out of the way right at the start: I love this new "Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World" poster. I love it as much as I like cake — and I am a cake fiend.

Created by artist Martin Ansin for Mondo, the Alamo Drafthouse art boutique, the poster commemorates tonight's special screening of "Scott Pilgrim" at the Alamo Drafthouse in Austin, TX. Director Edgar Wright and some of the film's cast will reportedly attend the event, which is sponsored by Fantastic Fest and Ain't It Cool News.

This is just one of two posters created for the event. The other poster will be revealed at the screening, with both on sale at the screening. Some will be available for purchase online tomorrow (Friday, August 13) at the Mondo website. Read more...

Scott PilgrimAugust 12 is a somber day in comics. Tom Brevoort pointed out today that it's not just because Mike Wieringo and Mark Gruenwald died on that particular date, but because two talents in the industry passed away in their 40s long before anyone would have expected them to. Both figures showed up in thoughts around the comics Twittersphere this morning as their accomplishments were remembered.

If you've been following Mark Webber's tweets, you may know that if you catch "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World" at a specific theater this weekend, you could end up seeing some audience participation with the film's music. He explains his ambition in a post below. There, you'll also find out who hates Ewoks and who thinks Donald Draper looks like Mike Allred.

R.I.P.D.Back in 2008, Dark Horse Comics signed a deal with Universal to bring "R.I.P.D." to the big screen with David Dobkin attached to direct and a script by Matt Manfredi and Phil Hay (who have also worked on a script for "The Boys"). Although Dobkin has since moved on from the project, another comic book movie director may step in to take his place.

Robert Schwentke — the director of Warren Ellis and Cully Hamner's "Red" — has been approached to helm "R.I.P.D," according to The Los Angeles Times. Universal reportedly wants to film "R.I.P.D." next summer to fill a hole in Ryan Reynolds' schedule, after the "Green Lantern" star agreed to do the film earlier this year. Read more...

When the first "Scott Pilgrim" trailer hit the 'Net, we compared some of our favorite scenes to their counterparts in the comic. Sure, it came as no surprise to anyone who's been following along at home, but Edgar Wright's upcoming film shares a lot of imagery with Bryan Lee O'Malley's wildly popular Oni Press comic.

Now that more footage has arrived online, we decided to take another look at the blending of live-action footage and comic panels that has everyone talking about "Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World."

Pretty great, eh? Well, that's not all the epic "Scott Pilgrim" epic-ness we have for you this week. Read more...

James MarstersEarlier this summer, the CW Network hinted that a number of former "Smallville" cast members will return for the tenth and final season. And now it appears that one of the actors may be coming in a slightly different role.

According to TV Guide, James Marsters will appear in the 200th episode of "Smallville" as Brianiac 5, a member of the Legion of Super-Heroes, whom executive producer Kelly Souders describes as "a slippery fish with a questionable moral compass."

Over on Fancast, "Smallville" executive producer Brian Peterson added that the 200th episode will be “one big event — and you have to wait for the last few minutes for it." He also stated that the episode will “explore a little bit of the past, the present and the future. We kind of do a little look back to where we’ve been, and we also take a look at where Clark is going.” Read more...
