Although "Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World" didn't set the box office on fire with its unique blend of action and romance, another comic inspired film with a more traditional romance story may have better luck.

Sony Classics has released the trailer for Stephen Frears' live-action adaptation of Posy Simmond's "Tamara Drewe." Frears' involvement with the project was announced almost a year ago. Prior to signing on to the film, Frears had established a strong reputation based on his previous movies including "The Grifters," "Hero," "Dangerous Liaisons," "High Fidelity" and "The Queen."

"Tamara Drewe" stars Gemma Arterton as a young journalist who returns to her home town in the English countryside and reinvents herself as a femme fatale. Arterton is perhaps best known for her role as Strawberry Fields in the most recent James Bond film, "Quantum of Solace." Earlier this year, she also starred in the "Clash of the Titans" remake, "The Disappearance of Alice Creed" and "Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time." Read more...

Late last year, "Priest" actor Cam Gigandet regaled us with tales of the "unbelievable" weapons his character wields in the upcoming live-action adaptation of Min-Woo Hyung's popular manhwa series.

When MTV News sat down with Gigandet and his "Priest" co-stars Maggie Q and Karl Urban, the "Twilight" alum turned the conversation back to the gun his character uses in a quest to rescue his girlfriend from renegade vampires.

"They designed and built it, and it was literally, ten pounds," Gigandet told MTV News. Read more...

Spider-ManAfter Spider-Man swings back into theaters in 2012 as a 3-D feature, will you still need special glasses to see every detail of his web-slinging adventure on your home entertainment system?

The SuperHeroHype crew recently caught an interesting footnote in an Associated Press article about the race to create a 3-D television that doesn't require users to wear special glasses for the full effect. At the end of the article, it mentions Sony's plans to release "Spider-Man" into the 3-D home entertainment market after its theater run.

"Sony said it will start selling in Japan next month two films and two music videos in 3-D, and planned home software of 3-D theater releases, including a 3-D 'Spider-Man' opening in 2012," reports the article. Read more...

We've heard how "Thor" star Chris Hemsworth used Mike Tyson as inspiration for the Marvel hero's heavy-but-quick fighting style, but what about the god of thunder's adopted brother and nemesis, Loki?

When MTV News spoke with Tom Hiddleston during Comic-Con, the actor explained the basis for the trickster god's tendencies in a brawl, and shared a story of how the main characters' climactic fight led to one of the actors spewing a real-life "river of blood."

"I tried to find a physicality for Loki that was very different from Chris as Thor," Hiddleston told MTV News. "He's such a big guy and he does so much work on his body, and it was brute strength and a really raw masculinity that would wield this hammer with an enormous power." Read more...

Wonder WomanWhile Jon Favreau announced his departure from Sante Fe for Universal Studios to continue his work on "Cowboys and Aliens," Mark Millar and Brian Michael Bendis debated this year's best films, and Millar seem to hold "The A-Team" in much higher esteem than Bendis does.

In other tweets, a couple of guys posted sketches they've been working on. A Judge Dredd from P.J. Holden and a Wonder Woman from Jim Lee both showed up. Paul Southworth celebrated the arrival of Netflix to iPhones by watching "Rocko's Modern Life," and Ryan North made a startling discovery about "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World." Find out what that was after the jump where you'll also see a valid question about the miners trapped in Chile.

NightfallLate last year, Platinum Studios made a deal with Aurora Productions to bring "Nightfall" to the big screen. And while news on the project has since been scarce, word has emerged that a director is finally attached to the potential film.

According to Deadline, James Wan, the director and co-creator of the original "Saw" has agreed to helm "Nightfall." In addition to the first "Saw" film, Wan wrote "Saw 3" and has been a producer on all of the sequels. He has also directed the films "Dead Silence," "Death Sentence" and "Insidious." Wan has also been linked to the film adaptation of "Castlevania."

Created by Scott O. Brown and Ferran Xalabarder, "Nightfall" focuses on a man named David Paxton who is sentenced to a brutal Texas prison that is secretly run by vampires using the inmates as livestock. It was originally published by Platinum in 2007. Read more...

While Karl Urban has since been confirmed to play Judge Dredd in a new, big-screen reboot of the popular British comic book character, the "Star Trek" actor offered every indication to MTV News during this year's Comic-Con that things were "looking good" for him to bring Mega-City One's most popular judge, jury, and executioner to life.

When MTV News spoke with Urban, he heaped praise upon the project — specifically citing the involvement of Dredd co-creator John Wagner and celebrated UK artist Jock, illustrator of many Dredd stories and key player in developing the visual elements of the character's return to the big screen.

"I can say that the producers of this film are going to make a very gritty, hardcore, faithful adaptation of the comic," said Urban. "Mr. Wagner, who created the character, and Jock, one of the key artists, have been on board as collaborators right from the beginning." Read more...

Joss WhedonEarlier this year, "Buffy The Vampire Slayer" and "Angel" creator Joss Whedon was attached to direct Marvel's hotly anticipated adaptation of "The Avengers." However according to Whedon, the cancellation of his TV series "Dollhouse" was weighing heavily on him prior to landing the gig.

Whedon told the Sydney Morning Herald that after "Dollhouse" was canceled that he went through "Anger, anger, anger. Anger. Bargaining. Honestly, this year with my career, I've been going, OK, is it over? Are they done with me and is it time for me to start doing really small or make a graceful exit? Because I'm OK. I have my family, I love to write, I'll always write, they can't stop me doing that."

"But maybe I'm not going to get my shot to reach a mass audience," continued Whedon. "But then I got 'The Avengers.' So, clearly, I'm an idiot.” Read more...

When "Thor" storms into theaters next summer, all eyes are going to be on Chris Hemsworth, the Australian actor starring as the humbled God of Thunder in the Marvel Studios films. But don't neglect Natalie Portman and Kat Dennings, two of the film's leading ladies — just because they're playing the considerably more grounded Jane Foster and Darcy doesn't mean they're not having fun.

"It was a fun opportunity to get to do this character, because I think she's an unusual female character for one of these movies," Portman told MTV News last month at Comic-Con in San Diego. "I'm in sweatpants for half of the movie, so I'm not in some crazy, sexy garb!" Read more...
