The AuthorityAn adaptation of Warren Ellis and Bryan Hitch's "The Authority" is headed to the big screen with a small screen actress attached to the project — well, maybe it isn't. It all depends upon who you believe.

Rumors of an "Authority" movie surfaced online yesterday, and the source is a very interesting one — none other than Dean Haspiel, the acclaimed comic book creator who just won an Emmy Award for his work on the opening credits of HBO's "Bored to Death."

Recounting his Emmy experience on his blog, Haspiel recalls running into "The Spirit" and "Castle" actress Stana Katic. Apparently, Katic informed Haspiel that she is "in the midst of creating a new comic book and was in talks to act in a movie version of Warren Ellis' 'The Authority.'" Read more...

Admittedly, I was late to the game in picking up Hyung Min-Woo's "Priest," but ever since I cracked open the first volume, I've been eager to see what director Scott Stewart has planned for his upcoming live-action film based on the popular manhwa series.

When MTV News had a chance to sit down with Stewart and "Priest" star Paul Bettany during Comic-Con, the pair explained why the post-apocalyptic story isn't your average vampire tale — and why the title character might not be the hero mainstream audiences are expecting.

"The priests of our story are like Jedi knights," Stewart told MTV News. "They have these supernatural abilities to fight vampires and they saved humanity before the movie even begins. Now, a generation later, society has moved on from war, and the priests are like pariahs. They're almost like Vietnam vets — they've been cast aside by society and they're now reviled and feared." Locke & KeyIt was only a matter of time before someone in Hollywood caught wind of the mysterious Keyhouse manor — and that someone is Steven Spielberg.

The acclaimed filmmaker is teaming up with Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci of "Cowboys & Aliens" fame for a "Locke & Key" television adaptation, according to New York Magazine. Former "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles" show runner Josh Friedman has also been tapped as a writer and executive producer on the series. Read more...

Ghost RiderNicolas Cage has been an outspoken advocate of bringing Johnny Blaze to Europe when the second "Ghost Rider" film wheels into theaters — and unsurprisingly, it looks like the actor is getting his wish.

According to Hot News, "Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance" is set to begin production in Romania this fall. Confirmation comes from Castel Flm's marketing manager Bogdan Moncea, who declared that the "Ghost Rider" sequel is set to become the first major American production to shoot in Romania since "Cold Mountain" in 2002.

Additionally, it's been confirmed that "Spirit of Vengeance" will be shot in 3-D, following up on Cage's recent 3-D experience with supernatural revenge flick "Drive Angry." Read more...

Gucci GuiltyLast week, I pointed you to a teaser for Gucci's upcoming ad for their new "Guilty" fragrance. Just in case you missed it and you're wondering why I'd be interested in Gucci and/or their fragrances, here's the kicker: the ad is directed by Frank Miller and features "Captain America" star Chris Evans and "True Blood" actress Evan Rachel Wood.

Even though the ad gets its broadcast premiere during MTV's 2010 Video Music Awards on September 12, the full video appears to be online now. And while it doesn't offer much more in the way of story, it does offer more of Miller's iconic, noir-tinged, black-and-white visuals with well-placed splashes of color.

Oh, and it also features both Evans and Wood in various stages of undress and, well... passionate activity. Read more...

Chris Hemsworth may believe that Thor's hammer and costume sell the movie, but only he knows what it's like to engage in battle bearing those props. In fact, he also knows what it's like to wield Mjolnir while learning from former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson.

"First, we looked at the comic books and the posturing, the way [Thor] moves and fights, and a lot of his power seems to be drawn up through the ground," the actor told MTV News. "We talked about boxers, you know, Mike Tyson, very low to the ground and big open chest and big shoulder swings and very sort of brutal but graceful at the same time, and then as we shot stuff things became easier." Black WidowWhen the cast of "The Avengers" was introduced at the San Diego Comic-Con International, it was noted that Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow was the only female character in the ensemble cast. Although rumors linking Eva Longoria to the Wasp have been persistent, "Avengers" director Joss Whedon recently confirmed that the Black Widow will be the only female Avenger.

"It is true that the movie is only going to have one female Avenger," Whedon told the Sunday Herald Sun (via Moviehole). "But she will not be the only female character."

Whedon's comment could mean that one of the supporting female characters from the previous Marvel Studios films — for example Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow) and Betty Ross (Liv Tyler) or Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) from the upcoming "Thor" adaptation may return. Or it could potentially indicate that one of the villains for the film may be female as well. Read more...

Fantastic FourBack in June, it looked like there was some news to report on the upcoming reboot of the "Fantastic Four" movie franchise with a new title ("Fantastic Four: Reborn") and registered website domains for the project. And while the validity of that new title is still up in the air, there are a few more uncertain, unofficial items that hit the wire recently which could merit discussion.

First and foremost are a bunch of rumors circulating about the actress who could portray Sue Storm in the new "Fantastic Four" film. Over at ComicBookMovie.com, two names have been thrown into the mix: former "X-Men: First Class" actress Alice Eve (who was rumored to be playing Emma Frost before January Jones took the role) and "Pineapple Express" actress Amber Heard.

According to the site's anonymous (read: unconfirmed) sources, Eve's departure from "First Class" may have been due to a better offer in the form of The Invisible Woman, Sue Storm. While Eve had previously been rumored to be one of the contenders for the female lead in "Captain America," this would be Heard's first mention in connection with a comic book movie. Read more...

X-Men: First ClassIt seems like not a day goes by without some new piece of news involving "X-Men: First Class," the upcoming film produced by "X-Men" and "X-Men 2" director Bryan Singer and directed by "Kick-Ass" filmmaker Matthew Vaughn. But is the news making you feel better or worse about the next installment of the "X-Men" franchise?

Despite the involvement of Singer, Vaughn, and an all-star cast, "First Class" has become quickly become a polarizing topic among fans — especially here on Splash Page. When I spoke with Vaughn recently, I got his take on some of the more pressing questions readers are asking, but there's still much debate surrounding the film, especially after today's big reveal of Kevin Bacon's role in the "X-Men" movie universe and the plot of the film.

Now's your chance to let us know what you think of the project thus far. Are you psyched about the casting? Disappointed by the roster of mutants? Chime in with your vote and comment, X-fans! Read more...

Marvel retreat"Vampires Suck" and "Piranha 3D" proved to be divisive topics among some comics industry tweeters this weekend. Jimmy Palmiotti sent some fighting words out to his followers on the subject, while Tim Seeley made a "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World"-related vow, and said the he intends to stick by it.

In other posts, Wizard World Chicago adventures were had, and Brian Michael Bendis started getting prepped for a Marvel creators retreat. He wouldn't say what he's going to be talking about, but he indicated that a death or or two may happen as a result of what's on the table. Check out what he said after the jump along with some James Jean artwork and Gail Simone's beef with comics on the iPad.
