Peter Sarsgaard "never expected to be doing" much of what he was tasked with for "Green Lantern," but that didn't stop him from going ahead and learning how to play villain Hector Hammond. The actor even went the extra mile and dug through some old "Green Lantern" comics.

However, he just didn't think they offered insights into the character that were as helpful as the details found in his script.

"I got [comics] from this guy around the corner from me in Brooklyn, who has a store," Sarsgaard told MTV News. As far as how much much importance he attached to what he found there, he didn't sound overly enthused. "A little bit." he admitted. Read More...

The Walking DeadEarlier today we heard from award-winning filmmaker Frank Darabont about the lead actor chosen for "The Walking Dead," AMC's upcoming television series based on Robert Kirkman's celebrated comic.

Over on the project's official blog, AMC has posted five new images from "The Walking Dead" featuring the aforementioned lead, actor Andrew Lincoln, and a horde of flesh-hungry zombies. Fans of the comic will likely recognize the scene depicted in the photos, with former police officer Rick Grimes (Lincoln) encountering some obstacles of the dead, shambling, and brain-munching variety when he enters the city of Atlanta.

I've posted two of my favorite images from the bunch, but you can check 'em all out over at AMC's "Walking Dead" blog. Read More...

Frank Miller Gucci ad
Frank Miller
has returned to directing for the first time since “The Spirit”, but we wont be able to gauge his success with box office returns this time.

Last night, a trailer teasing a Miller-directed ad for Gucci fragrance “Guilty” debuted on Gucci’s official Facebook page. Starring future “First Avenger” Chris Evans and the former "Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark" musical's Mary Jane, Evan Rachel Wood (“True Blood”), the teaser features the pair in a fiery sport car careening down a raised highway in one of Miller’s signature black and white, dystopian futuristic, noir-tinged fantasy lands. In the Marvel Comics universe, Thor is the greatest warrior in Asgard. With the mystical hammer Mjolnir given to him by his father, King Odin, Thor can command the weather, hurl lightning bolts, fly through the air, and smash through just about anything that gets in his way. But the god of thunder doesn’t always fight alone.

With buzz growing about the upcoming movie starring Chris Helmsworth in the title role, we thought it was time to take a look at some of the supporting cast from the film — namely, Thor’s greatest allies.

Just in case you're new to the world of "Thor," here's your guide to the characters he calls upon when even the might of a Norse god isn't enough to save the day. Read More...

The ExpendablesThe Twitter Report's feed this morning included more of the standard "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World" shout-outs that have become mainstays over the last week. Renée French had a great time watching Jason Statham in a beret, though, and we can only assume that means "The Expendables" was a transformative experience for her.

On the other side of the world, comics-maker and journalist Ted Rall updated his account from Afghanistan. You can keep up with what he's doing on his account, which is linked to below along with thoughts on what to do if a wizard curses your toilet, what Chris Burnham thinks of the Ground Zero mosque controversy and why Mitch Breitweiser was dreaming about President Obama.

I'm @brianwarmoth, and this is the Twitter Report for August 19, 2010. Read More...

Way back in June we got our first look at actor Andrew Lincoln as Rick Grimes, the main character of "The Walking Dead," AMC's upcoming television series based on Robert Kirkman's celebrated comic.

When I visited the set of "The Walking Dead" later that month, I spoke to the series' award-winning writer, director, and executive producer, Frank Darabont ("The Mist") to get the scoop on why Lincoln was the right man to play former police officer Rick Grimes.

"Andy is so good in this. He has a fantastic ability to intrigue the viewer," said Darabont. "It's that Gary Cooper thing. You wonder what's going on. You want to know what he's thinking. He holds back just enough to draw you in — that's a very rare knack for an actor." Read More...

Earlier this year, director David Fincher was reportedly on Sony's shortlist to direct the "Spider-Man" reboot, alongside fellow filmmakers Wes Anderson ("Rushmore"), and Marc Webb ("500 Days of Summer"), who eventually got the job.

Even though he won't be directing the newest cinematic adventures of Peter Parker onscreen, Fincher told MTV News that while he feels that the reboot is exciting, it also carries some drawbacks as well.

"It's risky," offered Fincher. "They're taking some risks. It's not like they're [getting] a conventional director. They're going at it in a different way... They're rolling the dice. I think that's always exciting." Read More...

Joss WhedonJoss Whedon’s role as script doctor on “Captain America: The First Avenger” technically marks his first dip into the Marvel Universe’s ever-expanding catalog of films, but it makes sense that as writer and director of “The Avengers,” the filmmaker should also have his eye on the celluloid origin of the super team’s famous Captain.

In a brief interview with Earth's Mightiest, Whedon opened up about the process of maintaining consistency between worlds.

"I just got to make some character connections," said Whedon of his work on the "Captain America" screenplay. "The structure of the thing was really tight and I loved it, but there were a couple of opportunities to find his voice a little bit — and some of the other characters — and make the connections so that you understood exactly why he wanted to be who he wanted to be."
