So far, we've heard from "Thor" star Chris Hemsworth about his character's costume and human/god dynamic, we've heard from Kevin Feige about why Kenneth Branagh was chosen as director, and we've even heard from Natalie Portman and Kat Dennings about (among other things) Thor's codpiece. But what about the crazy set pieces we've seen in the "Thor" trailer and "Thor" promo images?

During this year's Comic-Con in San Diego, MTV News spoke to actor Tom Hiddleston, who plays Thor's nemesis and adopted brother, Loki. In the following segment, the actor described his favorite set pieces in the film, including the frozen land of the Frost Giants, Jotunheim.

"The Asgard sets were like walking through a futuristic palace," said Hiddleston. "They'd matched the size of the spaces to the size of the studio, so it felt like you were walking through the gorgeous palaces of a shining city in the sky." Read More...

InceptionA couple of comics luminaries fulfilled their dreams this week, as Brian Michael Bendis was recognized for calling in to Howard Stern's show and Bill Amend announced that he has completed the campaign mode in "StarCraft 2." Elsewhere, "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World" continued to win over movie-goers, even if it didn't win in the weekend's box office rankings.

Accomplishments in creativity were recorded, too, as Mark Millar received something impressive from Leinil Yu and Simon Spurrier wedged something unique into a Marvel story he's been working on. Find out what that was after the jump along with a belated "Inception" appraisal.

WolverineBack in March, screenwriter Chistopher McQuarrie ("The Usual Suspects") reportedly finished the screenplay for "Wolverine 2" with an early 2011 shoot date in mind. Although the official start of filming hasn't been announced, Hugh Jackman may have just made a major commitment to prepare himself for his iconic role.

Deadline is reporting that Jackman has dropped out of director Kevin Lima's "Avon Man" in order to spend the fall getting back into "killer shape" for his fifth appearance as Logan/Wolverine. Thus far, there is no word on who will direct "Wolverine 2," but Jackman's move is seen as an indication that the film is on track to begin production next year.

Jackman will stay on board "Avon Man" as a producer, which is expected to find a new star and begin filming in the fall. However, Jackman may still appear as Sheriff Jim Clark in the civil rights drama "Selma" before beginning his Wolverine training regimen. Read More...

Fans recently got their very first glimpse at Mark Strong as Sinestro in "Green Lantern," even though the actor revealed to MTV News that the production team had some trouble nailing down the eventual villain's final design.

While Sinestro will certainly have a big role to play in the "Green Lantern" mythos, it's clear that fans are going to have to be patient when it comes to seeing the purple-skinned and mustached Lantern on the big screen — because, according to Strong himself, he only started working on the set of "Green Lantern" near the end of filming. Earlier this year. director Guillermo del Toro left the long-awaited adaptation of "The Hobbit," fueling speculation that he might return to the "Hellboy" film franchise sooner than he had previously stated.

However, when asked by MTV News about his "Hellboy" plans, del Toro seemed to indicate that its fate rested in the hands of Ron Perlman, the actor who starred in the title role under several layers of makeup; a process which Perlman apparently dislikes.

"You know, I think that everyone should ask Ron [Perlman]," said del Toro. "I had dinner with [Perlman] last night. He said 'six hours [in the makeup chair], what do you want?'" And he's doing 'Sons of Anarchy' without makeup. He's spoiled! He likes to be the big cheese without the makeup session." Read More...

One of the most exciting comic book movie announcements of the past two years centered on the formation of a new "Heavy Metal" film featuring the talents of directors David Fincher, Zack Snyder, Gore Verbinski and more, drawing inspiration from the classic comic magazine and 1981 animated flick of the same name.

That first announcement was nearly two years ago, however, with actor and musician Jack Black providing the most recent update in June 2009 that he and Tenacious D collaborator Kyle Gass wrote a song for the new "Heavy Metal." Desperate for something — anything — regarding the pending adaptation, MTV News turned to reported co-director David Fincher for an update on "Heavy Metal."

"We're trying to get people to embrace an R-rated anthology in 3-D," Fincher told MTV while promoting "The Goon," adding with a laugh: "You would think [there would be no problems from studios] with all of the examples we can show of how it works!" Read More...

Okay, this one comes with a big ol' SPOILER ALERT, people. Seriously, if you haven't read the sixth and final volume of Bryan Lee O'Malley's "Scott Pilgrim" comics, STOP RIGHT NOW.

Okay, we clear now? Everyone who's even the slightest bit spoiler-conscious has left the room? Let's proceed then, shall we?

When I spoke to the "Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World" cast at Comic-Con, one of the interesting moments in our conversation occurred when I asked Mark Webber, Johnny Simmons, and Alison Pill (who play Sex Bob-Omb musicians Stephen Stills, Young Neil, and Kim Pine, respectively) whether they'd read the final volume of the comic to find out what happens to their characters there. The big reveal in Webber's response was something I just had to share with you.

"I haven't read it yet either, but interestingly enough, I do know what happens to my character," said Webber. "Because in the production of the film, we were each given ten secrets about our characters." Read More...

Scott Pilgrim"Scott Pilgrim vs. The World" may not have fulfilled box office expectations with its reported $10.5 million weekend. You'll be hard-pressed to find negative feedback in the comics community on Twitter, though news of the theater receipt totals from the last several days has sparked concern and debate.

After the jump, you'll be be able to see where Erik Larsen, Skottie Young and Brian Michael Bendis weighed in, as well as how Ron Marz feels about the NFL's pre-season games kicking into gear again. All of this was accompanied by a shot from the Afghanistan trip that Steven Cloud is currently on and a slice of life tweet from "B.P.R.D." artist Guy Davis.

Oliver PlattIf you thought that casting was at an end for "X-Men: First Class," you were wrong — in fact, the forthcoming Marvel Comics adaptation just received a surprising injection of star power in the form of versatile character actor Oliver Platt.

According to Deadline Hollywood, Platt has been added to the cast of director Matthew Vaughn's "First Class," which is set to begin production in England next month.

Platt will play The Man in Black, a non-mutant character who may or may not have something to do with the infamous Stephen King and "Lost" villains of the same name. (We're betting that's not the case, but hey, you never know!) Read More...

Kevin BaconLast month, it came as a bit of a surprise when it was reported that Kevin Bacon was in talks to play the "X-Men: First Class" villain. Which villain would he play? Would it be a known or unknown character?

These were the questions I posed to "X-Men: First Class" director Matthew Vaughn when I spoke to him earlier this month about the DVD release of "Kick-Ass," and while the filmmaker was careful not to reveal too much about Bacon's role, he did say that the actor being cast in the film wasn't the only surprise coming out of his involvement.

"I don't think it would be right to give that away, but he's really going for it," said Vaughn when asked about Bacon's character in the film. "He's really up for it, and he's going for it. I'm just thrilled that we could get him." Read More...
