Age of Apocalypse MinimatesNew York Comic Con is right around the corner, and that means we're starting to see some of this year's convention-exclusive comics, toys, and other products hitting the 'net. While I generally don't snatch up every con-exclusive I can get my hands on, there are always a few that catch my eye.

Diamond Comics Distributors just released images of its two NYCC-exclusive offerings, which include a cool, alternate cover to issue #3 of IDW Publishing's "True Blood" comic book, and a set of miniature figures based on the fan-favorite "Age of Apocalypse" X-Men story arc. The one-handed, vicious Wolverine of a bleak, alternate future has never looked cuter!

I've posted images of both items here, as well as the official descriptions from Diamond. Read More...

At this point, we're not exactly holding our breath for Guillermo Del Toro to make "Hellboy 3," the much-discussed but unlikely finale to the filmmaker's planned "Hellboy" trilogy.

However, that doesn't stop us from asking the director about it every chance we get. For example, when he dropped by MTV News HQ recently to discuss his new horror novel "The Fall," we made sure to sneak in a few questions about "Hellboy 3" and whether we'd ever see the story he planned for the film in any form — whether it be live-action, animated, or even as a standalone comic book.

"Mike [Mignola] had a very wise position," Del Toro told MTV News. "He said, 'Look, we have the animated universe, we have the comic book universe, and we have the movie universe, and we have managed to keep them all separate. The rules that we have created don't mix. To bring the movie Hellboy into comics is to confuse the mythology. I would like that to stay in the movies." Read More...

Tony CurtisActor Tony Curtis' death topped the trending news topics being discussed in the Twitter Report feed this morning. Edgar Wright, Wes Molebash and Jeff Parker shared their reactions, though one of them felt more connected to comedian Greg Giraldo whose passing also made headlines today.

On the movies front, Olivia Wilde triumphantly declared that she's finished with Jon Favreau's "Cowboys and Aliens." Favreau's been tweeting a bit as well, and it sounds like things are track for next year's release. Their notes, Tony Moore on "Jersey Shore" and Karl Kerschl's thoughts on "The Social Network" await you below.

With Marvel's "The Avengers" on the horizon, many fans are wondering when DC Entertainment will announce a "Justice League" film. There's no indication of when or if such an announcement will be made, but fans nearly had a "Justice League" movie to call their own three years ago before it got canceled — largely thanks to the Writers Guild of America strike in 2007.

"The Social Network" star Armie Hammer was one of the young actors cast in "Justice League Mortal," a film that never got off the ground but came quite close. Hammer, who would have played Batman in the film, recently spoke with MTV News and recalled the events that led up to the project's termination.

"We had gotten a long way into pre-production," said Hammer about the ill-fated Australia-set production. "We were about to start shooting when the writer's strike happened at the end of 2007, and then the Australian government denied a 40% tax rebate that they thought they were going to have, so a lot of things just when wrong." X-Men: First ClassIt was only a matter of time before more photos from the set of "X-Men: First Class" hit the 'net, and while we got a look at January Jones as Emma Frost last time around, now we get our first peek at James McAvoy as a young Charles Xavier.

Posted over on Bleedingcool.com, the photos were taken around "First Class" shooting locations in Oxford (including some nighttime shots), and show off quite a bit of the 1960s-styled set and cast. Along with some retro-tastic modifications to the local signage, the photos also offer the first look at McAvoy as the man who will one day become Professor X, the mentor of the X-Men.

With shooting still underway, it's likely that we'll be seeing more shots from the set in the very near future, too. Read More...

PreacherBetween the "Superman" reboot and the "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" sequel, critically acclaimed filmmaker Darren Aronofsky has found himself caught in the comic book movie rumor mill. And apparently, it's not stopping with those two projects.

Citing an anonymous source, Newsarama reports that Aronofsky is in contention for another comic book project — an adaptation of Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon's "Preacher" for Columbia Pictures. The report states that Aronofsky is "being targeted" to direct the film, which would almost certainly pose a scheduling conflict with both Christopher Nolan's planned "Superman" overhaul and "Wolverine 2," as all of these films could enter production in 2011.

Newsarama was unable to attain confirmation from "Preacher" co-production houses Original Films and Kickstart Productions, so consider Aronofsky's involvement as a rumor for now — but a very intriguing rumor nonetheless. Read More...

SmallvilleWe're just a few days away from seeing the second episode of the final season of "Smallville," but the network is already promoting the return of Superman's cousin in Episode 3.

The good folks at The CW sent over a batch of new photos from the the aptly titled "Supergirl" episode, which features the return of actress Laura Vandervoort as Kara, the Kryptonian relative of Clark Kent (Tom Welling). With "dark forces" assembling to take down Clark and the rest of Earth's superheroes, Supergirl is back with a message from Jor El that Clark might not want to hear.

Read on for some of the new images featuring Kara in a variety of outfits (including what looks to be a Clark Kent-inspired secret identity), as well as the full episode synopsis from The CW. Read More...

Star Wars 3-DStar Wars fans are legion in the comics world, and you can bet that many of them will show up to see the films when they get re-released in 3-D. Simon Pegg and Box Brown both did some head scratching after the new editions for 2012 were announced, though, and you follow their lines of thinking in the Report today.

On "Glee" this week, the show took on the music of Britney Spears. She may not be as big as "Star Wars" with the crowd in the Twitter Report feed, but she inspired a discussion for Rob Liefeld. Check out what he had to explain after the jump along with which creator is contemplating a Serena Williams costume for Halloween and what to beware of when you're searching for Jimmy Neutron pictures online.
