Ryan Reynolds will either be in "Deadpool" or "R.I.P.D." No, that's not just idle speculation from your friendly neighborhood Splash Page blogger — that's the assessment from Reynolds himself.
Speaking with io9, Reynolds managed to put a lump in the collective throats of "Deadpool" fans everywhere by suggesting that he may not play the Merc with a Mouth after all.
Reynolds is next scheduled to film "The Change-Up" with Jason Bateman, followed by "Safe House" with Denzel Washington. After those two movies are completed, Reynolds imagines that he'll film either the long-awaited "Deadpool" or director Robert Schwentke's recently fast-tracked adaptation of "R.I.P.D.," but likely not both.
"Everything's so fickle and so contingent on so many factors, aside from just an actor," he explained. "And because it has an actor, and because these films have interested directors, it's obviously likely that ['Deadpool' and 'R.I.P.D.' will] both get made. But I think it would be more likely that only one of them gets made with me."
According to Reynolds, the choice to star in either "Deadpool" or "R.I.P.D." isn't entirely up to him, and his ultimate decision isn't a reflection on his interest in either property.
"They're both movies I'm interested in, they're both movies that are in fast-track development," he explained. "But I never say I'm doing a movie until I break for lunch the first day. Because it's such a crapshoot, this industry."
Reynolds' latest comments are certainly in contrast with the abundant enthusiasm he expressed over "Deadpool" just last week — but as the actor himself adequately explained, Hollywood is "so fickle and contingent on so many factors." With any luck, we'll know more about Reynolds' future comic book movie plans soon.
