Legend of the GuardiansZack Snyder has made a lot of friends in the comic book industry through his adaptations of "300" and "Watchmen," but his new film "Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole" may be a tough sell for at least two creators. In all fairness, though, such reactions may be widespread among illustrators who have tried to draw owl characters with any type of expression before.

Other trending topics in the news included Joaquin Phoenix's Letterman appearance and Blockbuster's Chapter 11 filing, which Faith Erin Hicks hopes will at least flood the used movie market with deals. Check out tweets on those subjects after jump along with Christos Gage's problem with "Mad Men" and Cully Hamner's response to a theory about DC's WildStorm closure announcement.

Sometimes, the most effective way for an actor to deal with casting rumors is to play a little game called "Yes, No and You Never Know." The rules are simple: when asked a question, the talent either replies with "yes," "no" or "you never know." Oftentimes, the truth lies somewhere between a confirmation and a denial — which is exactly where the "you never know" option comes in handy.

When MTV News spoke with actress Emma Roberts while promoting "It's Kind of a Funny Story," the two unwittingly fell into this game of back-and-forths. When asked if there's any truth to the rumors that Roberts could have a role in the upcoming "Spider-Man" reboot, guess which answer the young actress fell back on?

"You never know," she told MTV. "I'm saying the truth — you never know!" Read More...

Teri HatcherWith "Smallville" entering its final season, the superhero television series has every reason to pull out all of the stops. Apparently, the creative team behind the DC Comics adaptation is well aware of this — which is why they've reached back into the live-action "Superman" well for a truly inspired bit of casting.

Entertainment Weekly reports that "Desperate Housewives" actress Teri Hatcher is appearing on the final season of "Smallville" as Ella Lane, the mother of Lois Lane. If you're experiencing déjà vu, don't worry — you're not in "The Matrix." Once upon a time, Hatcher herself embodied the role of Superman's true love on ABC's "The New Adventures of Lois and Clark." Scarlett JohanssonWhen Scarlett Johansson joined Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth and the rest of the "Avengers" cast on stage at this year's Comic-Con, her presence confirmed longstanding rumors that Black Widow would have a featured role in Marvel Studios' crown jewel.

But the sultry S.H.I.E.L.D. agent isn't stopping there. During a press conference held for the "Iron Man 2" Blu-ray and DVD release, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige revealed that there are plans in the works for a "Black Widow" spinoff movie.

"We've already started discussions with Scarlett about the idea of a solo movie and have begun putting together concepts," Feige told reporters, adding one very important caveat: "'The Avengers' comes first." Read More...

James McAvoy has big shoes to fill when he assumes the role of Professor Charles Xavier in "X-Men: First Class," the currently shooting prequel to 20th Century Fox's "X-Men" trilogy. Up until this point, Patrick Stewart has lent his talents to the telepathic leader of our mutant heroes, but when director Matthew Vaughn's film rolls into theaters next June, there won't be a trace of Stewart to be found — not even in McAvoy's performance.

"I'm basically going to try and bury Patrick's performance," McAvoy laughed when speaking with MTV News about the project. But there's some seriousness to his words as well, as McAvoy explained that he hopes to put his own stamp on Xavier — until he reverts the character back to Stewart's version, that is. Read More...

Wolverine 2Over the past few months, some very interesting names have popped up as possible directors for "X-Men Origins: Wolverine 2," including "Red" director Robert Schwentke and "Black Swan" filmmaker Darren Aronofsky. But there's one rumored contender that many people believe to be the frontrunner: "Eclipse" and "30 Days of Night" director David Slade.

Adding to the buzz is the fact that Slade isn't exactly denying rumors of his involvement. The director spoke with the Vancouver Sun and said that while he's not officially on board for "Wolverine 2," he's already taken a meeting with the film's most important player.

"I can say that I’ve met with Hugh Jackman and he is a very nice fellow, but you never know with these things," said Slade. "There are several projects I’m interested in now, and that’s one of them." Read More...

Glee Season 2 premiereIf you caught the "Glee" Season 2 premiere last night on FOX, you were sharing a common experience with Rob Liefeld. He tweeted a few reactions to the show last night, and ultimately came to a conclusion that shocked him.

Shock was a fairly common emotion in the comics yesterday, though. DC Comics announced some shifts and changes that, among other things, included closing their WildStorm and Zuda imprints. These moves turned out to be the hot topics in the Twitter Report feed yesterday, and you can catch a handful of reactions after the jump. They're there along with some Terry Moore Kitty Pryde art, Mark Millar's thoughts on "The Town," and more.

Mark MillarNothing’s ever a sure thing in Hollywood — even the most bankable actors, actresses and directors can have flops. When their film hits theaters, there's always a chance of failure, but when you make it a comic book movie, the risk seems even higher.

So far, Mark Millar has an impressive batting average with film adaptations of his comics “Wanted” and “Kick-Ass” grossing close to $440 million dollars worldwide, not including DVD sales.

Granted, “Wanted” did have one very valuable asset on it’s side: Angelina Jolie. But seeing as how she’s confirmed that she won't return for the sequel, will it even happen?

“Well, 'Wanted 2' is complicated,” Millar told MTV News while promoting his recently launched "CLiNT" comics magazine. “There’s no book [for] 'Wanted 2.' I would like to do [the movie]. I say if it happens, great. If it doesn’t, I’m not bothered.” Read More...
