Morena BaccarinSure, it’s been cited that Morena Baccarin (of “Firefly” and “Serenity”) was seen at a comic shop near the set of her current vehicle—ABC sci-fi tentpole “V” — collecting "Avengers" back issues, but if any casting rumor could be fueled by sheer physical and circumstantial appropriateness, it’s the one speculating that Baccarin might be cast as Janet van Dyne, a.k.a. The Wasp, the superhero team's most miniscule member.

After all, not only does “Avengers” movie mastermind Joss Whedon have a history of loyalty to the actors cast in his body of work, but Baccarin’s resemblance, topped with the icing that is her current pixie haircut, make the actress the very living likeness of Janet van Dyne.

Speaking to AccessHollywood during NYCC, Baccarin addressed the rumor that she and Whedon might reprise their team-up. Read more...

Sure, "Red" has an amazing cast of actors — Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, John Malkovich, and Richard Dreyfuss, among others — but we're not alone in calling out Oscar-winning actress Helen Mirren as one of the most intriguing (and unlikely) of the bunch.

In the film, Mirren plays one of several retired black ops agents forced back into the killing business when her former team is targeted for assassination. Wielding everything from a mounted machine gun to a sniper rifle, her character (Victoria) is the picture of serenity while mowing down enemies with high-powered weaponry. When MTV News caught up with her at the "Red" press junket, we asked the actress about what inspired her performance.

"I guess [it was] a bit of a no-brainer, really," said Mirren of taking the role. "I was a little bit nervous because I thought, 'Am I destroying my reputation as a serious actress here?' and then I thought, 'Yes, I am! Fantastic! Go for it, girl!'" Read more...

Angry BirdsThe live edition of "30 Rock" Thursday recouped some viewers for NBC Thursday night, and it attracted plenty of attention in the comics community as well. Mike Shoemaker, Mark Waid and Ivan Brandon caught the show and posted some reactions.

It's also been another great day for art and costumes, with a couple more pieces from Terry Moore and Yildiray Cinar appearing, and Cully Hamner sharing an NYCC photo he took with a female Blue Beetle cosplayer. Check it all out down below along with the twisted tale of Bryan Hitch's dream from last night.

By now you're probably well aware of the fondness we have for M. Night Shyamalan's "Unbreakable," one of the first truly dark superhero films of the decade.

We've pestered the director and cast about a potential sequel for years now, and during last weekend's New York Comic Con, MTV News brought Shyamalan into town for a look back on the film 10 years after it first hit theaters. At the event, we gave away a bunch of autographed posters, copies of the movie, and various other promo items at the panel, but look what arrived this week:

Yes, we have even more "Unbreakable" stuff to give away — including tickets to next week's screening of "Unbreakable" at the Philadelphia Film Festival! Read more...

Between the buildup to "The Avengers" and the recent announcement of new "Hulk" and "Cloak and Dagger" television shows, it's clear that Marvel Studios is considering many different properties for multimedia adaptations. In fact, according to Marvel Comics editor-in-chief Joe Quesada, every single "viable" Marvel property has been considered for an adaptation.

"If you can think of any viable Marvel property that you think might be good for a motion picture or television or animation, it has been discussed," Quesada told MTV News during New York Comic Con. "Those ideas have been put on a sort of priority list of things that we feel corporately are the best ones to attack first." Read more...

After Sam Raimi's fourth Spider-Man movie bit the dust, John Malkovich was left without a part. The actor didn't get to play The Vulture, but he did get to play Marvin Boggs in "Red." Malkovich described the role thoughtfully, as a well-meaning man whose life was altered by government experiments. He even used the United States' recently outed syphilis experiments in Guatemala to provide a historical footnote.

"[Marvin]'s probably someone who, if not bright, can certainly follow his little obsessions, and in terms of this story he was supposedly one of the CIA's own people that they experimented on with LSD," Malkovich told MTV News, "and of course seeing what came out about our little experiments in Guatemala, whatever 40, 50 years after — I mean this we know happened. HulkThe Hulk is headed back to the big screen courtesy of Mark Ruffalo in "The Avengers," but the big green meanie is planning a return to the small screen as well.

According to Heat Vision, Marvel and ABC are developing a live-action television revival of "The Incredible Hulk," a property that's considered a top priority at Marvel Television. The division is headed up by comic book scribe and former "Heroes" writer Jeph Loeb, who just recently concluded a lengthy "Hulk" arc for Marvel Comics.

Bill Bixby and Lou Ferrigno famously starred in the previous "Hulk" adaptation that aired on CBS from 1978 through 1982. Indeed, this version was so popular that Ruffalo himself recently said that he's channeling Bixby's performance for his own upcoming portrayal of tragic scientist Bruce Banner. Read more...

The headline says it all for the latest "Red" clip we're posting on the site here. It's Helen Mirren with a sniper rifle.

Helen Mirren.

Sniper Rifle.

If you only need one reason to see "Red," let it be that one. Or the fact that it's based on a book by Warren "Internet Jesus" Ellis. I'll accept that reason, too. Read more...

During last weekend's New York Comic Con, MTV News hosted an event that took a look back at one of the first dark superhero films of the decade: M. Night Shyamalan's "Unbreakable."

It's no secret that the 2000 film is a favorite of ours around Splash Page HQ, as we've managed to pester just about everyone involved with the first movie at one point or another about the possibility of seeing "Unbreakable 2." Heck, we admit it: we're unapologetic fans when it comes to "Unbreakable" — and never was that more on display than during Sunday's "Unbreakable: Ten Years Later" panel, in which MTV News discussed all things "Unbreakable" with the filmmaker himself.

We've selected some of the highlights from the 60-minute panel and posted them below, but if you're as big a fan of "Unbreakable" as we are, you'll want to keep an eye on Splash Page over the next few days for a very cool giveaway! Read more...

Glee comicsThis was sort of a landmark morning in Twitter Report feed artwork, as not only did regular art poster Yildiray Cinar show off a great Timberwolf; Terry Moore made a Poison Ivy that will make your sketchbook jealous, and Lucy Knisley summed up "Glee" in a single comic strip. Luckily, all three of these have been included below.

Elsewhere, opinions poured out into the tweet ocean as always, with Dan Slott discussing the pros and cons of Olivia Munn, Mike Norton offering some brutally honest advice for young artists and Cully Hamner showing up with a warning to search engine users looking for updates about the Chilean miners.

I'm @brianwarmoth, and this is the Twitter Report for October 14, 2010. Read more...
