The long process of casting the lead in the next "Spider-Man" movie ended earlier this year when actor Andrew Garfield was officially announced as the new Peter Parker. Still, it's safe to assume that the learning process has just begun for the young actor, as bringing everyone's favorite webslinger to the big screen requires more than just an occasional snappy remark.
That's why, when I sat down with Stan Lee during New York Comic Con, I made sure to ask the co-creator of Spider-Man what advice he had to offer Garfield about playing Spidey and — more importantly — his all-too-human alter ego, Peter Parker.
"The best way to bring Spider-Man to the screen is to make it seem very natural — just to be a very simple, everyday, ordinary kid who happens to be good at science and wishes he were more than he is," Lee told MTV News. Read more...

Documentary subject and comic book scribe Grant Morrison can check off another item on his continually impressive list of accomplishments: music video star.
First revealed last month in a brief video teaser, Morrison has made his official debut in the full-length music video for My Chemical Romance's "Na Na Na (Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na)," a science fiction epic featuring laser pistols, bazookas, masked gunmen and references to antimatter, all in an effort to promote the band's upcoming "Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys" album. You don't have to believe in aliens to believe that "Men in Black 3" is on its way. The second sequel to the 1997 extraterrestrial themed action comedy is shaping up with casting announcements aplenty, with the latest one — if true — taking us to an all new "District."
Pajiba reports a rumor that "District 9" star Sharlto Copley is joining the cast of the third "Men in Black," as are Gemma Arterton and Alec Baldwin. The actors are said to be in negotiations for the film, so it's best to remain skeptical of their involvement until official word comes down the pipeline. Read more...

An inoperable brain tumor leaves an elderly private detective with time-bending hallucinations and nothing to lose. In taking one last mission—to find a drug boss’ missing daughter—Frank Armstrong may redeem himself for failing to stop his wife’s murder years ago, if his senses don’t betray him before time runs out.
It comes as no surprise that Hollywood players might see box office potential in the aforementioned plot, and in fact, Variety reports that one Tinseltown team you’ve never heard of is looking to launch itself on this distinctive detective story.
Formed by veteran exhibitor Daniel Crown and indie producer Daniela Taplin Lundberg, the newly assembled Red Crown Productions has secured Sam Bayer ("Nightmare on Elm Street") to direct an adaptation of “Tumor”, an Archaia Entertainment graphic novel by Joshua Hale Fialkov and Noel Tuazon. Ryan Reynolds has yet to make a decision between "R.I.P.D." and "Deadpool," but if the actor passes on the latter project, "Deadpool" is as good as dead — at least, that's what's indicated in a new review of what's reported to be a recent draft of the script.
Cinema Blend has posted a glowing review of an alleged "Deadpool" screenplay written by "Zombieland" co-writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, describing it at one point as "Van Wilder" meets "Kill Bill" and again later as the darkest aspects of "The Dark Knight" married with the fun of "Iron Man."
"If Quentin Tarantino wrote a superhero movie, it would be a lot like this script," reviewer Josh Tyler surmises of the "Deadpool" screenplay. Read more...

Rhys Ifans was announced as playing the villain in director Marc Webb's "Spider-Man" just two days ago, with the identity of his character unknown at the time. But this is the internet, people — news travels fast.
According to The Wrap, Ifans will slither his way into the scales of The Lizard, the friendly neighborhood wallcrawler's science teacher turned reptilian nemesis. In signing on as Dr. Curt Connors, Ifans joins a growing cast that includes Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker and Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy.
The Lizard has yet to be featured in a live-action "Spider-Man" movie, though this isn't the first time Curt Connors has appeared on the big screen. The tragic scientist was previously played by Dylan Baker in all three movies of the Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire trilogy, with some reports suggesting that Baker would finally get his due as a villain in "Spider-Man 4." That movie never came to pass, but it appears that The Lizard is getting a chance nonetheless. Read more...

As if speculation on the next "Batman" villain wasn't heated enough, in comes Tom Hardy to stir the pot. The "Inception" actor has joined the cast of Christopher Nolan's third "Batman" tale in an unspecified lead role, though many — myself included — are assuming that he's set to play one of the Caped Crusader's notorious rogues.
But which Bat-villain is Hardy up for? There's certainly no shortage of compelling criminals on Batman's naughty list, and the versatile Hardy could dig into a wide range of characters.
We took our best guesses at the villains Hardy might play in "Batman 3," so read on to find out who we came up with! Read more...

This Friday's episode of "Smallville" will be a landmark moment for the long-running series, as Tom Welling appears in his 200th episode as DC's Man of Steel (in the making), Clark Kent.
Titled "Homecoming," the episode sends Clark on a trip back to Smallville and back and forth through time, with James Marsters reprising his role as Brainiac. The CW has released a bunch of new images from the episode, which airs this Friday.
Not only do we get a peek at Clark back in his varsity jacket, but we also get a few shots of Brainiac and Lois Lane (Erica Durance), too. Read more...

The extraction of the trapped miners in Chile produced plenty of humor to go along with the celebration in the Twitter Report feed. Meanwhile, Mark Millar's just happy they'll be able to read his new book.
Bryan Lee O'Malley was a little less joyful picking apart newly released looks at "Sonic the Hedgehog 4," though Jonathan Hickman found something to be happy about in his "Fantastic Four" sales numbers from Azerbaijan. Check out how well it's doing down below along with a Ron Marz micro-review of "Jennifer's Body."

It's only a matter of weeks before "The Walking Dead" premieres on AMC, bringing Robert Kirkman's celebrated, long-running comic book series to life by way of Frank Darabont ("The Mist"), Gale Anne Hurd ("Incredible Hulk"), and a long list of other accomplished creators and cast.
During New York Comic Con, I managed to snag some time with Darabont and Hurd to discuss the series and its looming October 31 debut, and get a post-mortem of sorts on the first six episodes' similarities to the comic's initial story arc. Oh, and I also asked them about those rumors of an early green-light for the next 13 episodes of the series.
"What I find is that we're very much on course with the philosophy we approached the show with," Darabont told MTV News. "Which is, from the very first I always said to Robert Kirkman, 'I want to follow the narrative path you've laid out, but I want to take as many interesting detours and step off the path for a little bit as [much as] we can, as long as it feels organic to the overall."
