When the Ghost Rider rides again, don't be surprised if the antihero's flaming skull isn't burning as brightly as it did in the last film. Although Sony Pictures Entertainment has officially given the green light to "Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance," the sequel to Mark Steven Johnson's 2007 comic book adaptation, there is a hitch: Nicolas Cage's latest ride as Johnny Blaze is going to come at a cheaper cost.
The Wrap reports that the film's budget has been trimmed down from a proposed $135 million to a leaner $75 million.
Part of the reason for the budget's trimming reportedly involves Sony's commitments to other major franchise features, including "Spider-Man," "Men in Black 3" and "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo." Read more...

When Frank Darabont was first announced as the producer and pilot director of "The Walking Dead," I'll be the first to admit that I was shocked — not because he didn't seem right for the gig, but because the award-winning director of "The Mist" and "The Shawshank Redemption" was such an absolutely perfect choice to handle Robert Kirkman's post-apocalyptic zombie epic.
Great from-the-start pairings of filmmaker and source material rarely happen these days, but when they do, well... Let's just say "The Walking Dead" star Andrew Lincoln, who plays main character Rick Grimes, had no small amount of praise for the man behind the camera when the series make its debut on AMC this weekend.
"[Darabont] is obviously one of the great filmmakers of all time," Lincoln told MTV News. "He's made two of the greatest films, in my opinion, in movie history. I went with high expectations and every day I went to work they were exceeded." Read more...

Ladies and gentlemen, behold: Captain America stands revealed!
Chris Evans makes his grand debut as Steve Rogers, the scrawny kid turned super soldier fighting on the front lines of World War II, in "Captain America: The First Avenger," but you don't have to wait until that movie lands on July 18, 2011 to get your first glimpse at the actor in his red, white and blue duds.

The cover for the new issue of Entertainment Weekly reveals Evans as Cap, mask off and shield at the ready. As you can see, his costume design is quite close to the early concept sketches that leaked online earlier this summer. Read more...

Just as the Dark Knight rises with an appropriately titled sequel, the Riddler falls. Long considered a must include for Christopher Nolan's third "Batman" film, it turns out that the popular puzzler won't have a role to play in "The Dark Knight Rises."
The Riddler's exclusion from the next "Batman" is assuredly a blow to many Splash Page readers, as the character was voted the fan-favorite pick for the movie's villain. But come on, this is Batman we're talking about -- the sea of bad guys is virtually endless!
With Riddler out of the picture, it's time to dry those eyes and focus on the real threat: who is Batman's next nemesis? Join us after the jump as we weigh in on some candidates! Read more...

Filming for Matthew Vaughn's "X-Men: First Class" is well under way and since Jennifer Lawrence (a.k.a. Raven Darkholme) is the only actor we've had access to recently, we have to rely on her positive words about the production as our main source of information.
When MTV News caught up with the rising star at the Hollywood Awards Gala, she revealed that she received juicy insider info on her character, Mystique, straight from the original source: Rebecca Romijn.
"I got lots of juicy stories and gossip from the old set, that was much better [than advice]," Lawrence said. "I think the first thing I asked her was, 'What should I be for Halloween?' and she looked at me and started laughing. 'Right, I was supposed to ask you something else.'" Read more...

"The Walking Dead" makes its big debut on television this weekend, giving small-screen audiences a taste of what fans of Robert Kirkman's award-winning comic have known for years: the post-apocalyptic, zombie-filled adventures of Rick Grimes are simply some of the best storytelling out there.
But as any fan will tell you, it's not just the scripts that make "The Walking Dead" what it is — there's also a pair of talented artists (original artist Tony Moore and current, longtime artist Charlie Adlard) that make the series even more compelling. That's why we're psyched to give away a copy of "The Walking Dead: The Cover" from Image Comics, collecting the first 50 covers of "The Walking Dead" with commentary from the book's creators and various unpublished, never-before-seen art from the series.

It's a beautiful book that offers a great example of why "The Walking Dead" is one of the most popular comics of the last decade. Read on for what you need to do to win yourself a copy. Read more...

Just in case you've been off the grid the last few hours, Christopher Nolan's third Batman movie has a title: "The Dark Knight Rises."
So far, reaction to the film's new moniker has been mixed, with some heaping praise on what it could mean for Gotham's shadowy vigilante and others wondering why it's so similar to 2008's "The Dark Knight." We've hypothesized on what the title could mean for Nolan's third — and possibly final — installment of the Warner Bros. franchise, and even heard from creators around the comics industry about their impressions of the title. Now we want to hear from you!

One of the great tragedies about the death of Sam Raimi's fourth "Spider-Man" movie is the presumed mass cleansing of their original trilogy's cast — specifically, the removal of J.K. Simmons as J. Jonah Jameson.
Simmons' portrayal of the easily irritated Daily Bugle chief was one of the most widely appreciated facets of Raimi's "Spider-Man" films, but in order to establish a new continuity for director Marc Webb's upcoming reboot, it appears that Simmons won't have a role. That doesn't mean Triple J will be on the sidelines, of course.
Hollywood Insider reports that the "Spider-Man" team is hoping to lock down an actor to play J. Jonah Jameson as the next major piece of casting — and according to the report, two of the candidates for the part have already appeared in Marvel Comics movies. Read more...

Robert Kirkman got a bit sentimental about "The Walking Dead" on Twitter this morning and shared a quick history footnote about himself and artist Tony Moore. Elsewhere in the feed, Jimmy Palmiotti's pulling for AMC's new series to succeed; he's worried about when he'll be able to watch it, though.
The biggest news by far to land in the comics/movies world today was the title of Christopher Nolan's new Batman film, "The Dark Knight Rises." Opinions sprouted up all over the place about who his villain should be, especially if The Riddler isn't in the script. Check out what's been proposed down below along with some reactions to the "Rocky Horror Picture Show" episode of "Glee."
