DeadpoolEven as some fans are questioning whether or not Ryan Reynolds will wind up in "Deadpool" -- indeed, the actor himself is wondering the same thing -- there are other roles in the comic book adaptation remaining to be filled.

The director's chair is one of the most coveted positions, with "Sin City" filmmaker Robert Rodriguez once considered the front runner for the job. But based on a new report from The Los Angeles Times, it appears that Rodriguez has pulled his name out of the running -- instead, the Merc with a Mouth could be getting a leg up from a very commercial director.

A literal commercial director, it turns out, as little-known Swedish filmmaker Adam Berg is currently considered a leading candidate to direct "Deadpool." Read more...

The Dark Knight RisesAfter two difficult years of limited information, Christopher Nolan has finally opened the floodgates on his third "Batman" movie, titled "The Dark Knight Rises."

It's a title that's sure to divide fandom into different camps from supportive to disdainful and all of the varying degrees of ambivalence in between. But as comic book fans scratch their head wondering whether or not they like the new title, an important question must be asked: What does "The Dark Knight Rises" mean for the plot of Nolan's next Batman film? We're mere days away from the premiere of "The Walking Dead" television series now, and while Robert Kirkman, Frank Darabont, and everyone else associated with the project assure us there will be plenty of surprises for longtime readers of the comic, it's always interesting to find out whether the cast themselves are keeping up with the print adventures of Rick Grimes and his ragtag group of zombie-apocalypse survivors.

During New York Comic Con, I posed that question to cast members Norman Reedus (who plays a new character invented for the TV series named Daryl Dixon), Laurie Holden (Andrea), and Steven Yeun (Glenn).

"I knew the comic book visually, but I never really got into the characters and stuff, but on set I was reading them and trying to catch up and see where people go," Reedus told MTV News. "It's good that [Daryl Dixon] isn't in the comic book, because I'm such a freak I would try to find out when I die." Read more...

The Dark Knight RisesWell, we can stop calling it "Batman 3," as director Christopher Nolan has announced that the title of his third "Batman" film will be "The Dark Knight Rises."

Nolan revealed the title in an interview with Hero Complex, a title that both honors the highly successful comic book adaptation while offering a glimmer of hope with the added word "rises." But even as he elevates optimism in the third "Batman" movie's title, Nolan's shooting down the hopes of fans of the Riddler — according to the director, the puzzling villain will not be featured in "The Dark Knight Rises."

"It won't be the Riddler," said Nolan, effectively pulling the leading villain candidate completely out of the pool. Read more...

CatwomanWith Tom Hardy locked and loaded for a lead role in "Batman 3," attention has turned not just to who he's playing in the film, but also the other actors that are lining up to join him in Christopher Nolan's third excursion to Gotham City.

A report over at Moviehole suggests that we could see another round of casting announcements quite soon, as Nolan has reportedly started taking meeting with actresses in their late 20s and early 30s for the female lead in "Batman 3."

It's currently unknown which role these actresses are meeting for — indeed, Moviehole states that the actresses themselves are out of the loop, as Nolan and Warner Bros. executives are keeping a tight lid on the part and, understandably, the project in general. Read more...

Ever since their first collaboration on 1985's "Pee-Wee's Big Adventure," director Tim Burton and composer Danny Elfman have established themselves as one of Hollywood's most perfect pairings. This holiday season, Warner Bros. Records will commemorate their prolific partnership with the release of "The Danny Elfman & Tim Burton 25th Anniversary Music Box," a massive collection of the duo's 13 scores together, featuring more than 19 hours of music, an exclusive DVD, and a long list of rare audio, video, and collectible material.

Later this week we'll feature a rare interview with Elfman discussing his work on projects like 1990's "Batman," but Warner Bros. Records has also provided Splash Page readers with an exclusive clip of Elfman and Burton reflecting on "The Nightmare Before Christmas," one of the many projects featured in the 25th Anniversary Music Box. In the clip, the award-winning composer explains why he identified so well with the film's skeletal hero.

"['Nightmare'] probably reminded me more of your days in clubs and the certain type of music you were doing," Burton told Elfman. "To me, that always seemed like the clearest thing to you in a way — something that was just inside of you for a long time." Read more...

"The Walking Dead" television series premieres on Halloween night, but as perfect as that timing seems to be for AMC's adaptation of the popular post-apocalyptic zombie comic, it wasn't the original schedule the network had planned. According to "Walking Dead" creator (and television series executive producer) Robert Kirkman, the network punted on its original premiere date after realizing it would be going head to head with Minnesota Vikings quarterback and future Hall of Fame inductee Brett Favre.

"Can I talk out of school? I don't know if I can [say] this, but that wasn't our original launch date — which I think is the funniest story ever," Kirkman told MTV News during New York Comic Con earlier this month. Read more...

Charlie SheenI'm assuming that Warren Ellis, Jhnonez Vasquez and Matt Fraction won't all be attending the same Halloween party this week, but after seeing Fraction's costume proposal yesterday and Ellis and Vasquez's today, you have to imagine that few parties could generate the kind of reactions that the three of them would walking into a room together all dressed up.

Meanwhile, Charlie Sheen has been in the news today following reports that he was found intoxicated in a hotel room, and even sadder news hit the feed today as it was revealed that Paul the psychic octopus has passed away. Remembrances and Gail Simone's thoughts on the new "Yogi Bear" film await you after the jump.

Jim Lee IconsFew creators have remained as consistently relevant, revered, and forward-thinking in the comics industry over the last few decades as Jim Lee.

After first breaking into the scene with his celebrated work at Marvel Comics (including co-authorship of the best-selling comic of all time, "X-Men" #1), Lee went on to co-found Image Comics, create his own publishing company, Wildstorm Productions, and eventually sell the company to DC Comics in the late '90s in order to re-focus on his artwork. Most recently, the prolific creator was named co-publisher of DC Comics, and serves as Executive Creative Director for "DC Universe Online," the upcoming online multiplayer game featuring DC's massive cast of characters.

Next week sees the release of "Icons: The DC Comics and Wildstorm Art of Jim Lee," a new hardcover retrospective on the award-winning artist's work with DC and Wildstorm over the years, featuring an extensive collection of art (including some never-before-seen pieces) from Lee's archives. Presented alongside commentary from Lee himself, the art in "Icons" is only part of the project's appeal. Read more...

More than a decade after the campy "Batman" series left the airwaves, Adam West and Burt Ward reprised their roles in 1979's "Legends of the Super Heroes," a two-part miniseries (emphasis on "mini"). The special saw the dynamic duo teaming up with costumed colleagues like the Flash and Green Lantern to face against the Riddler (once again portrayed by Frank Gorshin), Mordru, Weather Wizard, and other villains.

The episodes are now available on DVD through the Warner Archive site, and we have an exclusive taste of the retro excellence. In the clip below, Batman and Robin run into a bit of car trouble, but manage to make it to a garage. However, their luck turns when they discover who their mechanic is...

"Legends of the Super Heroes" is available now.

Let us know what you think of the clip in the comment section or on Twitter!
