We're less than a week away from the long-awaited premiere of "The Walking Dead," AMC's upcoming television series based on the award-winning Image Comics series, and that means it's time to kick off "Walking Dead Week" here on Splash Page!

As we get closer to the big premiere on Halloween night, we'll have bunches of interviews, clips, and even a "Walking Dead" contest or two here on the site, beginning with this introduction from the creator of "The Walking Dead" himself, Robert Kirkman!

"Every single episode, [special effects supervisor] Greg Nicotero finds a way to top himself," Kirkman told MTV News. "You'll just be watching the show and be like, 'Oh, that one! That's the most amazing zombie I've ever seen on screen before!' So the best zombies are in episode six." Read more...

RunawaysBack in July, we got word that Marvel was targeting 2011 for filming to begin on "Runaways," a live-action feature based on Brian K. Vaughan's comic book series. Now it looks like we'll have to wait a little longer to see the story of a group of supervillains' children who decide to end their parents' evil ways.

Deadline reports that Marvel's busy calendar has prompted the studio to take their time with "Runaways" and not push to get the film rolling by 2011. According to the site, "Runaways" director Peter Sollett ("Nick And Nora's Infinite Playlist") was invited to take on another project between now and whenever Marvel decides to move forward with the film.

The site also indicated that worries about the audience demographic weren't a factor in the decision to slow the "Runaways" schedule, and that the project is being described as "the 'Breakfast Club' of superhero saga" in Hollywood circles. Read more...

PlutoLadies and gentlemen, for our next comic book movie destination, we will be leaving our home planet of Earth behind on a non-stop flight for "Pluto."

Universal Pictures and Chris Melandri's Illumination Entertainment are joining forces to adapt Naoki Urasawa's "Pluto" for the big screen, according to a report from Deadline. The Japanese manga adaptation is said to be a live-action and computer animated hybrid.

"With 'Pluto,' Naoki Urasawa has defined an imaginative world full of inventive action and adventure but it was his characters and heartfelt story that compelled me towards acquiring these rights," Meladandri said in a statement. Read more...

Josh Howard ChuckNews that Martin Freeman has officially been cast as Bilbo Baggins in Peter Jackson's "The Hobbit" was probably the least controversial thing to hit the comics Twitterverse this week. The same cannot be said for Juan Williams getting fired from NPR thanks to comments he made about Muslims, but most of the creators discussing his termination in our feed kept their posts quite civil.

Elsewhere, Josh Howard's "Chuck" commission that he shared via Twitpic is in no way controversial, and you should check the whole thing out for yourself down below. It's been linked to along with a tease from Mark Millar about an upcoming book, Justin Gray's micro-review of "Splice" and the truest words a freelancer has ever put together as tweeted by Chris Eliopoulos.

I'm @brianwarmoth, and this is the Twitter Report for October 22, 2010. Read more...

Green LanternAs an intergallactic tale that takes viewers from the skies of Earth to the alien streets of planet Oa, "Green Lantern" is loaded with fantastical elements that fans will want to escape to. Sadly, airlines aren't currently booking roundtrips to Oa, but "Green Lantern" enthusiasts have a solid alternative in a new roller coaster ride at Six Flags theme park.

A new "Green Lantern" roller coaster is hitting California's Six Flags Magic Mountain in the summer of 2011, according to the theme park's official website, boasting "a never been done before completely vertical zigzag pattern track."

"Fearless riders will brave the ride sitting in eight-person vehicles — four abreast and back-to-back, each rotating independently," the site describes of the roller coaster. "The two minute thrill begins with riders going up the 107-foot left hill before spinning their way down through 828-feet of twisted vertical track, featuring three, 360-degree head-over-hill spins." The CrowWhether Mark Wahlberg ends up playing the lead role in "The Crow" remains to be seen, but one thing is for certain: Stephen Norrington will have nothing to do with the project.

Previously attached as the director of the franchise reboot, Norrington has revealed that he is no longer involved with "The Crow" in any capacity. When contacted by Mania to comment on rumors of Wahlberg's casting, Norrington replied: "I don't know about that story but I can tell you I'm no longer involved with 'The Crow.'"

The filmmaker revealed that an unnamed actor became involved with the reboot and was thoroughly enthralled by Norrington's vision, but later rejected Nick Cave's script and requested a new take from a new writer. Read more...

DollhouseEarlier this week, we spoke to "Dollhouse" actress Eliza Dushku about the recent release of the second season of Joss Whedon's over-too-soon Fox series on DVD and Blu-Ray. While we were chatting the actress up about the show, we couldn't help asking for an update on the comics side of the "Dollhouse" universe, too.

In the end, it turns out that there was some confusion all around when it came to "Dollhouse" comics, so today we went straight to the source for clarification on the series' past, present, and future in the comics world: Dark Horse Comics editor Scott Allie.

The main man behind the growing Whedonverse presence at Dark Horse, Allie offered up a complete breakdown of what's out now, what's coming up, and where it all fits in the greater "Dollhouse" mythology. Oh, and it's probably not a spoiler to say that the story is far from over for Whedon's mind-bending house of dolls. Read more...

Green LanternIf you were worried that director Martin Campbell's "Green Lantern" wouldn't spend a meaningful amount of time dealing with space, have no fear — some intriguing pieces of concept art indicate that we'll have plenty of places beside Earth to call home when the DC Entertainment movie shoots into orbit next summer.

Courtesy of Warner Bros. Pictures come two new concept illustrations from "Green Lantern" depicting Oa, a planet that functions as the intergalactic peacekeeping squad's base of operations — and as you can see, space is very much a part of the live-action "Green Lantern" plan. Read more...

Louis LeterrierBack when "Incredible Hulk" director Louis Leterrier was bringing "Clash of the Titans" back to the big screen, his name was one of several that came up as potential directors for "The Avengers," Marvel's upcoming superhero team-up extravaganza. While Leterrier himself confirmed that he'd discussed the gig with Marvel, the job ultimately went to another geek-friendly filmmaker, "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" creator Joss Whedon.

I spoke to Leterrier recently ahead of his appearance at Long Beach Comic Con on Saturday, October 30, for an afternoon panel alongside fellow French filmmaker Pitof, who directed 2004's "Catwoman" and served as the visual effects supervisor on "Alien: Resurrection."

Along with sharing his thoughts on French filmmakers' attraction to comic book movies, Leterrier offered up some details about his "Avengers" pitch to Marvel Studios, and why he just wouldn't be the right director for certain superheroes' big-screen adventures. Read more...
