Penthouse founder and publisher Bob Guccione may not have been someone that comics creators talk about every day by name, but everyone seemed to know who he was this morning in the Twitter Report feed. Guccione reportedly died of cancer, as did former singer for the Slits Ari Up, who also showed up in today's posting, where they're commemorated by Ande Parks, Chris Onstad and John Allison.
On lighter notes, Apple's press conference yesterday had a lot of people speculating about the company's next operating system. At least one creator was impress by the new MacBook Airs that showed, and Mitch Breitweiser's pretty sure he's going to be able to buy a touchscreen iMac next year. Decide whose side you're on down below.

The main "Avengers" lineup was announced at Comic-Con, but there has been a lot of speculation since Joss Whedon was announced as the film's director about which (if any) of Whedon's retinue of loyal actors would pop up in the film.
Recently, Morena Baccarin said she was interested in joining the cast after rumors swirled that she was preparing for a role as The Wasp. Then there was the sad news that Nathan Fillion's attachment to the ABC series "Castle" restricted him from coming on board. But Whedon regular Eliza Dushku has so far been mum on the subject.
I spoke with Dushku over the phone on Friday while she was promoting the recently released "Dollhouse" Season Two DVD and Blu-Ray, and she said that she hasn't talked to Whedon about giving her a role in "Avengers"... yet. Read more...

Has the "Blade" franchise been staked through the heart, or is the Marvel Comics property merely hiding out from the daylight in some far-off coffin in the hills? The answer remains unclear, especially to series lead Wesley Snipes.
In an interview with Deadline, Snipes said that he's still interested in breaking out the garlic and slaying some vampires as the ruthless Blade, but he hasn't heard much about a fourth film recently — except for what he's read online, that is.
"Maybe we get around to doing another Blade, except, from what I’m reading, every other actor is talking about playing him, and nobody is talking to Wesley," he said. "How strange that they don’t come and talk to me about it." Read more...

What does the Man of Steel have in common with Olympic athletes and entrepreneurs Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss? Beyond their mutually impressive physique, it turns out that they nearly shared an actor between them.
Armie Hammer, who plays the Winklevoss twins in "The Social Network," spoke with Vulture and confirmed that he and his representatives recently discussed playing Clark Kent in director Zack Snyder's "Superman" reboot. Sadly for the actor, it's not meant to be.
"I did talk to my people recently about that for the first time, and I think they’re going a little older with Superman," said the actor. "I hear they’re going 35, 40." Read more...

In just a few weeks, the dead will rise to walk the earth and eat anything with a pulse. Next summer, an alien invasion will leave scattered pockets of humanity struggling to rebuild civilization. Is it just me, or does the future of the human race on television seem a little... bleak?
During this year's New York Comic Con, I spoke to "Falling Skies" writer and co-executive producer Mark Verheiden about the upcoming TNT television series that explores life during an alien invasion and the print- and online-comic prequels published by Dark Horse Comics.
"What we didn't want to do was the classic 'Independence Day' story," explained Verheiden, "because that's been done — you've seen the invasion." Read more...

With the release date for "Iron Man 3" officially announced, it's no longer too early to wonder who the villain in Tony Stark's third cinematic outing might be. Well, maybe it's a little early — the film is three years away, after all — but what's the harm in getting the wheels spinning?
The Armored Avenger's rogues gallery is an impressive one, filled to the brim with compelling foes that could give Tony a real run for his money. While certain characters seem more obvious than others, there's really no shortage of bad guys that could wind up in "Iron Man 3."
After the jump, check out some of the villains we could see fighting their way into the third "Iron Man" movie! Read more...

It should come as no surprise that comic book creators are adept at coming up with disturbing children's book titles. Neil Gaiman, Cullen Bunn and Matt Fraction all participated in the #sadchildrensbook hashtag that's been showing up all of the Twitter Report feed recently, and you'll appreciate what they contributed.
In timely topic discussions, actor Tom Bosley's death prompted a few laments, while Apple's press event today had many a tweeter guessing about what they plan on announcing. R. Stevens even included a photo with his prediction. You can view that after the jump along with a Scott Pilgrim pumpkin and some sound industry advice.

I know I wasn't alone in having a difficult time saying goodbye to David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor in the "Doctor Who" television universe earlier this year. While the first full season with Matt Smith as the Eleventh Doctor certainly eased the pain, it also helped to have the Tenth Doctor continuing his adventures in IDW's "Doctor Who" comic book series. All that ends this week, however, as the publisher concludes the final arc of Tenth Doctor stories with today's issue #16.
During New York Comic Con, I spoke to "Doctor Who" writer Tony Lee about the impending end of his Tenth Doctor stories and what he has planned for the Eleventh Doctor when the series relaunches in January 2011. IDW also provided us with some new art from the upcoming Eleventh Doctor run.
"When we started doing the Tenth Doctor, we wanted to try and keep it with the Russell T. Davies style of stories, so you had a long arc," Lee told MTV News. "Anyone who's read the ongoing series knows that from issues #1-16 there are things that go all the way through it. When you actually read the final episode, you realize it links completely into the first one." Read more...
Robert Downey Jr.'s days as Tony Stark are far from over. In addition to starring in "The Avengers" in 2012, it looks as though the crime-fighting billionaire is returning to his very own franchise just one year later.
In an update to the story that Paramount Pictures is transferring the distribution rights for "The Avengers" and "Iron Man 3" over to the Walt Disney Company, Deadline reports that the third "Iron Man" now has an official release date. According to the report, ol' Shellhead will fly again on May 3, 2013. Read more...
