Mark WahlbergMark Wahlberg has played an eclectic range of characters throughout his Hollywood career, from a thriving porn star in "Boogie Nights" all the way through to his most recent role as a bumbling police detective in "The Other Guys." But his next role could bring Wahlberg to an entirely different playing field: the land of the dead.

Bloody Disgusting reports that Wahlberg has been offered the lead role in director Stephen Norrington's reboot of "The Crow." The film is currently undergoing script revisions courtesy of screenwriter and musician Nick Cave.

At the moment, Wahlberg's casting in "The Crow" is far from official, as the report only states that he's been offered the lead role in the comic book movie, not that he's accepted the part. For now, it's best to approach Wahlberg's possible casting as a rumor only. Read more...

Back in August, we brought you the news that Paul Dini was joining the creative team for "Ultimate Spider-Man," the upcoming Disney XD animated series that also features notable comics and cartoon creators Brian Michael Bendis (co-creator of the long-running "Ultimate Spider-Man" comic book series) and the "Man Of Action" collective responsible for the wildly successful "Ben 10" animated series.

During New York Comic Con, I managed to round up two of the four members of Man of Action, Joe Kelly and Steven T. Seagle, to find out more about Spider-Man's return to the animated world and, among other details, what Dini meant when he promised a "redefined" Peter Parker.

"It's fair to say that when we came on the project, Marvel looked at what worked in the past and what hasn't worked," Kelly told MTV News. "[They] felt like this would be a cartoon for a completely new generation, so let's tear it down and build from scratch and really exploit what animation allows us to do, not replicate what's done in the comics." Wolverine 2After weeks upon weeks of rumors and speculation, it's now (mostly) safe to consider it official: straight from Hugh Jackman's mouth comes word that Darren Aronofsky is indeed directing "Wolverine 2."

The "Black Swan" director's approach to the "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" sequel will be, according to Jackman, quite "out of the box" and potentially "the best one yet" of all the "X-Men" films the Australian actor has starred in so far.

"I really do feel that," Jackman told New York Magazine of Aronofsky's enlistment in the "Wolverine" franchise. "I feel this is going to be very different." Read more...

SHIELD HelicarrierEver since Nick Fury’s debut in the post-credits scene of 2008’s “Iron Man,” fans knew they’d see more and more of S.H.I.E.L.D. on Marvel’s movie landscape. You might say it was only a matter of time before the covert security organization’s massive floating base of operations was made the latest Easter Egg-laden fortress of fan-pleasing glory.

But it might not have been as predictable where the very first images of that fortress would emerge from.

Russian website Spidermedia.Ru has posted two slides of concept art featuring the helicarrier at different angles, what appears to be a CGI mockup screen shot, and a couple comic illustrations. The designs are attributed to artist George Hull (who also worked on the “Matrix” sequels). Read more...

The Walking DeadThe MTV Splash Page desk wasn't the only "Walking Dead" press kit recipient this week. Artist Tony Moore also got one and tweeted about the conflict it created in his morning.

Other conflicts abounded in today's feed as well, with a reprimand for unproductive artists coming out of the Marvel offices, no sympathy from Ron Marz for the guy suing Mike Tyson, and Terry Moore contemplating a proper response to seeing his comics available via torrents. Find out where you stand and how much Ryan Kelly made off of an old issue of "Lucifer" below.

Eliza DushkuDespite the fact that Fox canceled "Dollhouse," Joss Whedon seemed to want to continue the universe by writing a comic book that connected the unaired "Epitaph One" episode from season one to the series finale, "Epitaph Two." The two episodes took place 10 years in the future in a post-apocalyptic world that Echo (Eliza Dushku) and the other people involved in the Dollhouse world had to save.

[UPDATE: Dark Horse editor Scott Allie clarified the past, present, and future of "Dollhouse" comics in a subsequent interview with MTV News. Apologies all around for any inaccuracies/misunderstandings re: "Dollhouse" comics. -RM]

The comic was released last week in the "Dollhouse: Season Two" DVD and Blu-Ray boxed sets, but there was one important person who missed the exciting news: leading lady Eliza Dushku. When I caught up with her over the phone to talk about the Season Two release, she pondered the potential continuation of the "Dollhouse" storyline in comic book form. Read more...

Green LanternFrom what we've seen of "Green Lantern" thus far, it's clear that the DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. adaptation is sticking closely to comic book lore while upgrading many costume and character designs with an appropriate alien aesthetic.

It makes sense, then, that an item as iconic as the Green Lantern Power Battery got a similarly extraterrestrial overhaul. The Daily Blam got their hands on the first screenshot of the Power Battery as depicted in director Martin Campbell's superhero film, and as expected, it's taken quite the alien shape. Read more...

The Walking DeadWith the Halloween premiere of "The Walking Dead" fast approaching, I don't think I'm alone in noticing a few more shambling, flesh-hungry creatures with lifeless eyes and pasty skin than usual on my daily commute through Manhattan. In fact, it's hard to go anywhere without seeing promotion for AMC's upcoming television series about life after the zombie apocalypse — and I love every bit of it.

However, for fellow fans of Robert Kirkman's award-winning comic book series (and the upcoming television series based on it), there's yet another piece of "Walking Dead" swag you'll want to get your hands on in the run-up to the series' premiere. An upcoming variant issue of "The Walking Dead" comic book will be available Halloween weekend at the Long Beach Comic Con for the awesome price of free, featuring a brand new photo cover ripped straight from the live-action "Walking Dead" TV series.

The three-day show kicks off October 29 at the Long Beach Convention Center in California, and the good folks at LBCC and Image Comics have provided Splash Page readers with the first, exclusive look at the cover! Read more...

With "The Avengers" set to begin production in early 2011, it's about time that the various cast members involved in the Marvel Studios superhero flick started seeing some script pages. But at least one of these actors hasn't had the chance to flip through Joss Whedon's highly anticipated screenplay just yet.

"No, I haven't," said "Thor" star Chris Hemsworth during last weekend's Scream Awards. "I'm extremely excited to see it. I talked to Joss when he first came on board about his ideas and what he planned on doing with it, but I've yet to see a script." Read more...

smallvilleWe're four episodes into the final season of "Smallville," and the record-breaking series' swan song doesn't appear to be losing any momentum.

The CW just released a pair of new teasers for the October 22 episode "Isis," in which Clark Kent's plans to reveal his superhero alter ego to Lois Lane are derailed when she's possessed by the Egyptian goddess Isis (who's no stranger to the DC Universe herself). Meanwhile, Oliver Queen continues to deal with the ramifications of going public with his secret identity — and it doesn't seem like it's all bad for Green Arrow.

"Smallville" airs Friday evenings at 8 PM Eastern on The CW. Read more...
