You've likely heard the controversial news by now that "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" creator Joss Whedon won't be involved in his beloved creation's forthcoming theatrical reboot. Instead, rookie screenwriter Whit Anderson will tackle the screenplay for the reboot, with Warner Bros. moving on without Whedon's oversight.
To say that "Buffy" fans are a bit upset about Whedon's absence is certainly an understatement, and the "Buffy" creator himself isn't too thrilled either.
In an open letter to E! Online, Whedon wrote that he's so mixed up about the news that he's going to turn his sights to a different franchise altogether: none other than the Caped Crusader himself, Batman!
"I can, however, take this time to announce that I'm making a Batman movie. Because there's a franchise that truly needs updating," he joked. "So look for 'The Dark Knight Rises Way Earlier Than That Other One And Also More Cheaply And In Toronto, rebooting into a theater near you."
Clearly, Whedon's joking: after all, he's got "The Avengers" in the pipeline, so his comic book movie cravings aren't exactly unsatisfied. He even called upon "The Avengers" when reacting to the news of the "Buffy" reboot: "This is a sad, sad reflection on our times, when people must feed off the carcasses of beloved stories from their youths—just because they can't think of an original idea of their own, like I did with my Avengers idea that I made up myself."
All kidding aside, what do you think of the decision to move on with a "Buffy" reboot without Whedon's involvement? Is it too soon to revisit the vampire slayer? Are you fine with another Buffy adventure even if Whedon has nothing to do with it? Let us know your take in the comments section and on Twitter!
