For fans of video games based on comic book properties, 2010 wasn't exactly a busy year. After "Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions," the only other major release scheduled for the year was "DC Universe Online," Sony Online Entertainment's upcoming game that allows players to create their own heroes or villains and interact with Superman, Batman, and the rest of DC's stable of characters.
All that changed last month, though, when "DC Universe" was pushed back to a 2011 release date. Citing a need to "address community feedback in a meaningful way," Sony delayed the release of the much-anticipated MMORPG and has yet to announce a new date for the game to hit shelves.
I recently spoke to veteran comic book artist and DC Comics co-publisher Jim Lee, who also serves as Executive Creative Director for "DC Universe Online," and got some details about the delay — as well as some interesting thoughts on how the DCUO team developed the in-game look for popular characters. The last time we heard anything about "The Dark Knight Rises" casting, Christopher Nolan was reportedly taking meetings with a slew of actresses in their late 20s and early 30s for the female lead in his next Batman movie.
Today we have word that the list has been narrowed down to six lucky ladies, and that Nolan is looking to cast two female leads — not just one, as was previously thought. The short list of actresses allegedly in contention are Rachel Weisz (pictured), Naomi Watts, Blake Lively, Natalie Portman, Anne Hathaway and Keira Knightley.
According to Deadline, Nolan is looking for an actress to play a love interest for Christian Bale's Bruce Wayne, and another to portray a villain. Read more...

Hollywood producer Dino De Laurentiis, who helped make "Serpico" and "Blue Velvet" possible, passed away Wednesday at the age of 91, and he had quite a few movie-world and comics-industry fans in our feed this morning. Both Edgar Wright and Jeff Katz commemorated him in posts today, and numerous others contributed "RIP" tweets.
Other subjects were a little more controversial, with Chris Ryall contributing a theory about the mysterious contrail that appeared in the sky near Los Angeles, some "Survivor" criticism from Rob Liefeld and thoughts on "Superman vs. Muhammad Ali" from Mark Waid and Tom Brevoort. Read all of those retweets below along with a Veteran's Day meditation from Christos Gage.

Earlier this year, it was announced that writer Kurt Busiek's "Astro City" would become a feature film by way of Working Title Films. Busiek's story about an American city populated by superheroes and villains will come to theaters courtesy of a screen treatment from Busiek himself -- not to mention a little bit of help from the Coen Brothers.
"[Working Title] actually saw it because the Coen Brothers sent it to them," Busiek told Newsarama in an interview. "They read it and said, 'This is big and sprawling and enormous, and we don't know what the road in is, but it all comes out of character. We get that. We understand these characters.' And that was where we started working together on it."
"They've optioned the rights and they've hired me to do the screen treatment," he added. "We'll see what goes on from there." Read more...

Captain America certainly has his hands full.
Steve Rogers, once a scrawny weakling, becomes America's most heroic icon thanks to his transformation into a muscular super soldier by way of Project Rebirth. But Cap has a lot more on his plate than the common Nazi foot soldiers as he battles his way through World War II -- the star-spangled superhero's greatest threat comes in the form of HYDRA, a technologically advanced group of bad guys commanded with ruthless efficiency by Johann Schmidt, better known as the Red Skull.
If there were any doubts about HYDRA's powerful influence, some new snapshots from the England set of "Captain America" should put them to rest. Comic Book Movie scored a series of images that depict Hydra's massive and technologically sophisticated armored tanks, giving fans a good idea of what Rogers is up against when his big screen debut hits theaters next summer. Todd McFarlane's plans to bring "Spawn" back to the animated world are still materializing, as the comic book creator recently told us that the project is undergoing various animation and technology tests through different studios.
But even as certain aspects of the "Spawn" series are getting ironed out, there's one thing that McFarlane says the fans can count on: just like the last animated series that aired on HBO, this latest "Spawn" adaptation will absolutely retain its edgy status as a mature audience series.
"Absolutely," McFarlane told MTV News when asked whether or not the new series would preserve the old show's dark tone. "We're gong to a cable network, and that's their bread and butter." Read more...

Filming is currently underway for "Ghost Rider: Spirit Of Vengeance" in Romania, so it was only a matter of time before some footage from the set hit the 'net.
Romanian website Ora de Sibiu has posted some video from the set of the film featuring Johnny Blaze himself, Nicolas Cage. Cage appears around the 1:20 mark in the first piece of shaky video, and looks to be acting out a scene with writer/directors Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor. There's also footage of Cage signing autographs for a crowd of fans.
A sequel to 2007's "Ghost Rider," the second film takes Johnny Blaze to Eastern Europe, where he battles the devil for the soul of his mortal son's body. Read more...

Already one of the most celebrated comic book authors in the industry, Grant Morrison seems to be popping up everywhere we look these days — from music videos and mysterious television projects to the focus of a new documentary about his life and career. He's also currently hard at work on the script for a live-action independent movie, "Sinatoro," with director Adam Egypt Mortimer.
Announced at this year's San Diego Comic-Con, "Sinatoro" tells the story of an amnesiac man who wakes after an auto accident in the middle of the desert and gets caught up in a beautiful girl's quest to rid her town of evil forces. According to the official plot synopsis, the film's hero encounters "the world's most dangerous gangster, a deranged astronaut, a drunken cowboy, and an army of hobos" on his journey through a nightmarish pop-culture landscape that only Morrison could create.
I spoke with Morrison and Mortimer about the project and the origins of "Sinatoro" to get a better idea of what we can expect when the celebrated, surreal vision of one of comics' greatest minds is turned to the live-action movie world. Read more...

Stan Lee is a man of many hats, but the co-creator of "Spider-Man," "Fantastic Four" and various other Marvel institutions has one role that he occupies quite often: cameo artist.
"As the world now knows, my main career is as a cameo artist," Lee told MTV News at New York Comic Con earlier this month. "I've gotten to love these cameos so much. In fact, when I meet anybody who is a director or a producer or anybody having to do with a movie or a TV show, and they say, 'Hi Stan, how are you?' I'll say something like, 'I'm fine -- when can I do a cameo?' I just love doing these cameos!" Read more...

Yesterday, all of the Twitter drama surrounding "Call of Duty: Black Ops" was about launch day, who got it and who didn't. Today, a cluster of day after posts started showing up, and if you were a comic book creator who was already pushing deadlines, it's entirely possible that you may nuked your sleeping schedule this week trying to squeeze in some hours with the new game.
Today also brought a snazzy "Y: The Last Man" commission from Josh Howard to our feed, which I highly recommend scoping out. Howard's link is retweeted down below along with a complaint about last night's "Glee" episode, Jimmy Palmiotti's hopes for the "Jonah Hex" franchise and Jock's latest assignment from DC Direct.
