These days, having the director of a film provide a commentary track on the DVD or Blu-Ray is nothing new, but what about a trailer?

Jon Favreau's "Cowboys & Aliens" trailer had the Internet buzzing last week, earning near-unanimous approval for the "Iron Man" filmmaker's adaptation of the Platinum Studios comic book. Given how well our first look at "Cowboys & Aliens" was received — and let's face it, how much we love everything with Favreau's name on it — MTV News sat down with the director in his L.A. editing studio to get a first-hand account of what went into the trailer for the 2011 film.

"This is new for me," laughed Favreau. "I'm already doing a commentary track on a movie that I'm in the middle of the director's cut." Read more...

Four LokoIf you dug Robert Kirkman's "Walking Dead" episode last night, you weren't alone. He was a compliment magnet last night in the Twitter Report feed, and though Kirkman didn't direct, he did leave to door open to that possibility for next season.

Elsewhere, airport pat-downs courtesy of the TSA were a hot topic. John Layman submitted his feelings on the matter in no uncertain terms, while James Robinson got sentimental about Michael Jackson and Rebekah Isaacs believes that she's discovered the worst Four Loko has to offer. Check out her warning after the jump along with some Chris Samnee art the hypothetical Harry Potter contemplations of Joe Hill.

ParallaxLast month we had it confirmed that Parallax will have a role in the new "Green Lantern" movie, and now it looks like we might have our first look at how the living embodiment of fear will appear in the live-action "Green Lantern" universe.

Over at The Daily Blam!, they've posted what's reported to be a scanned page from one of the upcoming "Green Lantern" comic books offering the first look at the yellow-hued fear entity Parallax. The site previously posted a photo of actor Peter Sarsgaard as the film's other villain, Hector Hammond, from the pages of "Green Lantern" #59 — so the Parallax image could very well be legit.

In the interests of comparing the new image to the original (and hopefully keeping things spoiler-free for anyone who'd rather be surprised), I've posted an image of Parallax from the comic above and the alleged movie image at the very end of the text here. Read more...

On last night's episode of "The Walking Dead," viewers spent their first meaningful stretch of time with Dale, the survivor's camp's elder statesman played by Jeffrey DeMunn. Already a favorite amongst the Frank Darabont faithful due to his roles in "The Shawshank Redemption," "The Green Mile" and other films, DeMunn's talents haven't gone unnoticed by his fellow actors on the hit AMC series.

"DeMunn is the man," enthused series star Andrew Lincoln during a recent interview with MTV News. "He's a terrific actor. He's a gentleman, one of the nicest guys, but he's got this kind of steel in him, this fierceness as well. There's also this lightness and deftness of touch, and so funny — he just is the guy." Jeremy RennerJeremy Renner won't be making it home for Thanksgiving, but he's hardly complaining. He's currently hanging in Dubai with Tom Cruise as the duo shoots the next "Mission: Impossible." Such is life for this new Hollywood breakout star.

Following his Oscar-nominated turn in "The Hurt Locker," the 39-year-old actor nabbed that meaty role in "Mission," as well as the part of Hawkeye in "The Avengers." Impressive stuff.

That's why MTV News is honoring Renner as one of the people we're most thankful for in 2010. We recently chatted up the actor about "Mission: Impossible" and the projects on his plate these days, but we also dived a bit more deeply into "Avengers," as Renner discussed his ideas for Hawkeye and why he's been texting co-star Robert Downey Jr.

In fact, we started talking about "Avengers" almost as soon as Renner called us up from Dubai. "I was just texting with Downey before I called you," he said. Read more...

SmallvilleThe final season of "Smallville" skips a week this Friday, and picks up next week with its tenth episode, an alternate-universe adventure featuring the return of John Glover as Lionel Luthor.

Titled "Luthor," the December 3 episode has the Clark Kent (Tom Welling) we know and love accidentally trading places with an evil version of himself who was adopted by Lionel Luthor in an alternate universe (and no, the "evil Clark" doesn't sport a devilish goatee, sadly). The episode also features the directorial debut of longtime "Smallville" producer Kelly Souders, who gets behind the camera for the Bryan Q. Miller-penned story.

The CW has released a bunch of photos from the episode that show Clark and Lionel doing a little fencing. Read more...

The Walking DeadEpisode Title: "Vatos"

Written By: Robert Kirkman

Story: Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) is back in Atlanta alongside Glenn (Steven Yeun), T-Dog (IronE Singleton) and Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus), but Daryl's brother Merle (Michael Rooker) is nowhere in sight — other than his severed hand, that is. The group continues their search for Merle and the guns, but the plan takes an unexpected curve thanks to the arrival of some gun-toting "vatos."

Back at camp, Jim (Andrew Rothenberg) begins digging holes in the ground, confusing and scaring the other survivors. But following the episode's grisly conclusion, the survivors might want to thank Jim for getting some dirty work done in advance. Read more...

Mark ZuckerbergDavid Fincher and Aaron Sorkin may have had the first laugh in chronicling the life and times of Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg in "The Social Network," but the young entrepreneur is getting another shot at the big screen — by way of a comic book movie adaptation, no less!

Bluewater Productions have announced via press release that the publisher is teaming up with Hayden 5 Media to create an animated film based off the comic book about the Facebook founder, titled "Mark Zuckerberg and the Found."

According to the press release, the production will lean on a mixture of live-action filmmaking and animation, for a visual look and feel that's very similar to the film "A Scanner Darkly." Read more...

Natalie PortmanWhen Natalie Portman described her "Thor" leading lady Jane Foster as "an unusual female character for one of these movies," she wasn't joking around.

The actress recently spoke with The Los Angeles Times and revealed her extensive research process in creating the Foster character. Portman said that she was very involved in the creation of Foster's personality and experience for the big screen, thanks in large to the collaborative nature of director Kenneth Branagh.

“I did think it was a total opportunity,” she said. “I signed on to do it before there was a script. And Ken, who’s amazing, who is so incredible, was like, ‘You can really help create this character.'" Read more...
