The "Green Lantern" trailer hit the 'net like a flaming green fist to the jaw this week, and now it seems like everyone has something to say about the first footage from Ryan Reynolds' debut as Hal Jordan.
Still, even after repeated viewings, there are a few elements you might have missed in the trailer. For example, did you see where the Star Sapphire symbol turned up? What about the explosive scene involving what may or may not be Parallax?
They're in there — you just need to know where to look. Read more...

Bruce Banner is mastering The Hulk. Well, he's trying to, at least.
When actor Mark Ruffalo takes over for Edward Norton as the Marvel Cinematic Universe's new Jade Giant in "The Avengers," he's hoping that the easily enraged scientist starts to get a firmer grasp on his angry persona — especially considering that Bruce's mastery was teased at the end of "The Incredible Hulk."
"We ended the last Hulk with him smiling and you feel like he's getting control of it," Ruffalo told IGN in an interview about his work as Bruce Banner. "And I don't know how deep we're gonna get into that, but my general feeling is for Bruce Banner/the Hulk and what I hope we talk about is that Bruce Banner is slowly but surely -- it's like riding a wild mustang. At some point, you do start to get it a little bit under control." Read more...

"The Avengers" director Joss Whedon wasn't always charged with bringing Earth's Mightiest Heroes to life on the big screen — once upon a time, his major comic book movie debut was supposed to come earlier in the form of "Wonder Woman," based on a screenplay he wrote himself.
Although his script was celebrated by those who read it, Warner Bros. ultimately passed on the project, leaving Whedon's take on the Amazon warrior to languish in that big old comic book movie graveyard in the sky.
That doesn't mean that Whedon hasn't still considered Wonder Woman's big screen chances, even if he's no longer involved with the project. Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Whedon revealed who he would have wanted to see cast as Princess Diana: none other than Angelina Jolie. Read more...

Everyone’s buzzing about the new "Green Lantern" trailer showcasing Ryan Reynolds in the role of cocky test pilot Hal Jordan.
The trailer also shows a few of Hal’s alien colleagues in the Green Lantern Corps, including his brutish trainer, Kilowog. The massive alien is a fan-favorite character that can be seen around the 1:50 mark in the trailer, giving Hal an up-close appraisal that makes him wince.
However, since we know the Green Lantern universe might not be familiar turf for all of our readers (and some might need a refresher course), here’s a primer on the baddest poozer ever to wield a Green Lantern ring — but beware of potential spoilers!!! Read more...

The cast of the "Spider-Man" reboot continues to grow, as another father figure is joining the scene — but with the patriarch of the Parker family already covered in the form of Martin Sheen's casting as Uncle Ben, it's Emma Stone who's about to get a new daddy.
"Rescue Me" star Denis Leary is currently in negotiations to star in "Spider-Man" as police captain George Stacy, according to Heat Vision. The character is the father of Gwen Stacy, Peter Parker's first love interest played by the "Easy A" and "Zombieland" actress.
In the comics, George Stacy plays something of a father figure role to Peter Parker, welcoming the young man into the Stacy household thanks to his relationship with George's daughter. George is not just a strong supporter of Peter Parker, but an outspoken advocate of Spider-Man's. Read more...

Episode Title: "Ilsa Pucci"
Written By: Matt Miller
Story: Following the capture of former police officer Laverne Winston (Chi McBride) at the conclusion of last year's season finale, Christopher Chance (Mark Valley) and his shady partner Guerrero (Jackie Earle Haley) take it upon themselves to rescue their old friend. But Chance takes Winston's kidnapping very personally, so much so that he ultimately decides to retire from his high risk industry for good.
Permanence is a fleeting thing, however, as billionaire philanthropist Ilsa Pucci (Indira Varma) comes to Chance requesting his specific skill set as a security contractor. Although he's initially uninterested in the job, all it takes is the promise of some cash and a helicopter ride to lure Chance out of hiding and back onto the playing field. Read more...

The "Green Lantern" trailer may have left fans divided, but the "Cowboys & Aliens" trailer that premiered earlier today is proving to be an impressive source of unity in the comics-to-film world.
The trailer for Jon Favreau's adaptation of the Platinum Studios graphic novel has been receiving high praise since it debuted this afternoon, and combined with its all-star cast that includes Daniel Craig, Olivia Wilde, and Harrison Ford, it's very possible that we're looking at one of next year's biggest hits.
But the trailer wasn't all that was released today from "Cowboys & Aliens." Universal Pictures has also released a set of new images from the film — some from the trailer, some brand new. Read more...

"Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World" arrived on DVD and Blu-Ray last week, offering what could be the closing chapter on one of the most interesting — and for many, frustrating — stories of the year when it comes to the comics-to-film process. The product of a celebrated pairing of filmmaker and source material, director Edgar Wright's adaptation of Bryan Lee O'Malley's comic book series lived up to (and possibly exceeded) fans' expectations when it came to capturing the appeal of the books — but fell dramatically short of expectations at the box office.
When Wright dropped by Splash Page HQ last week, we asked him why he felt things turned out the way they did with his "Scott Pilgrim" experience.
"Anything that's a little bit different is a little bit harder to sell," Wright told MTV News. "And when you have to go beyond the core of the geek audience — and I say that as a geek myself, I don't use it as a derogatory term — you have to work a little bit harder." Read more...

If you've been paying attention to Splash Page in the past several days, then you already know that the first official "Green Lantern" teaser trailer has finally arrived online. What you might not know, unless you're already a "Green Lantern" junkie, is who some of the many characters you're seeing in that trailer are — though thanks to our call-out of the trailer's five best moments, hopefully you've got a better idea by now!
Still, there's at least one character that leaps out to me from his all-too-brief appearance in the trailer, and that's Sinestro. The purple-skinned alien is one of the greatest characters in the "Green Lantern" mythos, and in case you need further elaboration on that point, we've compiled a few fun facts about Hal's mustache-twirling mentor-turned-nemesis that you may or may not already know... We on the MTV Splash Page crew weren't alone refreshing our browsers last night when the "Green Lantern" trailer appeared for the world to see. The launch created a tidal wave of reactions all over the place, but the creators in the Twitter Report feed were as vocal as anyone.
Thus far, the movie has the approval of Kevin Smith, Neil Kleid and Rob Liefeld. Geoff Johns hopes you caught a specific Easter egg that was thrown in, and Paul Azaceta and Brian Denham have some reservations. Check out who shares your opinions below, and if you don't have any yet, it's probably high time that you viewed the new clips from Martin Campbell's film for yourself.
I'm @brianwarmoth, and this is the Twitter Report for November 17, 2010. Read more...
