Although "Thor" spends much of his time on Asgard, the hammer-wielding hero will remain grounded on Earth for a vast portion of the forthcoming superhero flick as well. One of the many mortals he'll encounter during his travels is Professor Andrews, played by Swedish actor Stellan Skarsgard.
"Me and Natalie Portman and Kat Dennings are doing research on strange atmospheric and space stuff going on in the sky in New Mexico," Skarsgard told Collider of his character. "And then, we meet Thor."
Skarsgard elaborated on his experiences shooting "Thor," pinning much of the film's success on director Kenneth Branagh. Read more...
Move over, Christian Bale — there's a new Batman coming to the big screen.
Humor site The Onion News Network jokes that North Korean leader Kim Jong Il has been given the lead in the next Batman movie in exchange for suspending his nation's nuclear program. According to the report, talks began after Kim sent U.S. Secretary Of State Hillary Clinton oil paintings of himself as Batman.
And while the story itself is pretty hilarious, it was the paintings of Kim Jong Il as Batman that made this absolutely necessary to share with you here. Read more...

Noted nerd Patton Oswalt called for the death of geek culture in a Wired piece this week and ruffled a few feathers. Jeff Parker sounds he's got the comedian and writer's back, however, and thinks geeks at large need to learn to take their criticism in stride.
And speaking of criticism, there's been no shortage of it mixed in with the compliments for "Tron: Legacy." More responses rolled out in the Twitter Report feed today, along with Eric Powell's reaction to Brett Favre's $50K fine, Kalman Andrasofszky's new webcomic idea and the identity of a confessed Spider-Man Snuggie owner.

From "Thor" to "Green Lantern" and everything in between, 2011 is most assuredly an excellent year for comic book movie fans. But it's not all capes and tights clogging up theaters next year — comics fans can get their non-superhero fix in the form of "The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn," the motion-capture 3D picture from director Steven Spielberg and producer Peter Jackson.

Some new images from "Tintin" have arrived online courtesy of Filmofilia (via Spinoff Online), showing the iconic Georges "Herge" Remi-created character in a variety of high stakes situations. Read more...

Jeremy Renner was outed as the front runner for Hawkeye months in advance of his finalized casting, with a report from last year suggesting that he'd play the avenging archer not just in "The Avengers," but also in "Thor."
While Renner is clearly playing Hawkeye in the superhero team-up movie, now it appears that he really does have a role to play in "Thor" as well. The Wrap reports that the "Hurt Locker" actor will mark his first performance as Clint Barton in Kenneth Branagh's "Thor" adaptation, set to arrive in theaters next May.
Supposed insiders refused to comment on the context of Hawkeye's appearance, the duration of his involvement and when in the film his scenes take place. They did state, however, that Samuel L. Jackson won't appear in "Thor" as Nick Fury. Read more...
We've known for several months that Tomar-Re was going to have a role to play in next summer's "Green Lantern," and the notion was solidified by the character's brief appearance in the recent "Green Lantern" trailer.
But those of you longing for a sturdier look at Tomar-Re, look no further. Comic Book Movie has scored a new image of Tomar-Re from the set of "Green Lantern," showing the defender of Space Sector 2813 in all of his alien glory.

Yesterday we offered up a list of the most popular interview segments we posted on the site this year, ranked according to our 2010 traffic data. Today, we're looking at the year in video — specifically, the most popular trailers and clips we posted on Splash Page over the last 12 months.
This year was full of big releases on the movie and television front, with "Iron Man 2," "Kick-Ass," and "Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World" all vying for attention at the box office and on the Internet. However, this year's list of the 10 most-watched trailers and clips features quite a few projects that didn't appear on the big screen.
In fact, with a few exceptions, the trailers and clips that were watched the most times here on Splash Page will probably surprise you — so let's get on with the list, shall we? Read more...

It was only one year ago that we learned the shocking news that Tobey Maguire and Sam Raimi were leaving the "Spider-Man" franchise. Since then, many of us have adjusted to the idea of newcomer Andrew Garfield taking over the role of Peter Parker — and even Maguire himself has offered his support.
"[Maguire] sent me a lovely message through a mutual friend. He gave me his support and it meant a great deal of course because part of the reason I love and have continued to love this character was because of his portrayal. To step into those shoes is no mean feat," Garfield said during a recent appearance on BBC News.
"It was generous of him to reach out and say something," he added. "So I'm thankful." Read more...

Comic book sales didn't shine for the direct market this year, and Twitter turned into a bit of a roundtable discussion this morning as a result, with Geoff Johns, Jimmy Palmiotti, Jamal Igle and others weighing in with hopes, complaints and ideas.
Artwork posts were alive and well, however, with Yildiray Cinar sharing a step-by-step walkthrough of a Black Cat card he recently finished and Lea Hernandez posting a shot of a commission she finished. Those retweets and a provocative analysis of the relationship between Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader await you below.
