Captain AmericaAs filming continues on "Captain America: The First Avenger," we're likely to see more and more coverage arrive online from the much-anticipated 2011 film starring Chris Evans as soldier-turned-superhero Steve Rogers.

This time around, we have a few new photos from the London set of "Captain America," courtesy of Dutch magazine Veronica. The Chris Evans Blog has a scan of the set visit piece, which includes a few new photos of leading lady Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter, and a new shot of Evans as Steve Rogers.

Meanwhile, over at SuperHeroHype, they've translated portions of the article which seem to shed a little more light on how Marvel's red, white, and blue superhero will wield his famous shield. Read More...

Doctor WhoThe "Doctor Who" Christmas Special dominated last weekend's news, and it looks like the ol' Time Lord isn't quite done with the spotlight yet.

The teaser trailer for the next season of "Doctor Who" has arrived online (courtesy of YouTube), and from the looks of things, Season 6 (or Season 32, depending on how you look at it) has The Doctor traveling to some new destinations in time and space with a few familiar faces popping up along the way. (River Song and The Ood, anyone?)

Oh, and it looks like The Doctor might have found a new favorite when it comes to headwear, too. Read More...

Emma StoneConsidering that she's playing Peter Parker's ill-fated first girlfriend Gwen Stacy, many fans have already prepared themselves for the possibility that Emma Stone won't survive the "Spider-Man" reboot.

But if you're already in the midst of scribbling out Gwen's obituary, perhaps your suspicions are a bit premature. During a recent appearance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno (via Reelz Channel), the blonde actress indicated that she's going to appear in multiple "Spider-Man" movies.

"There's a few 'Spider-Men' [movies]," she told Leno. "So I may have to keep [my blonde hair] for a couple of years." Read More...

Javier BardemLadies and gentlemen, Javier Bardem is Superman!

Well, perhaps we should clarify that last sentence a bit, because if you're thinking that Bardem is about to saddle up as the Man of Steel in director Zack Snyder's forthcoming "Superman" reboot, you're in for a disappointment. Instead, Bardem has already scratched his superhero itch, portraying the classic DC Comics character in a 1989 episode of Spanish comedy series "El Dia Por Delante."

Check out the hilarious — not to mention embarrasing — footage of Bardem as Superman past the jump! Read More...

Michael McMillianEarlier this month, we brought you the news that "True Blood" actor Michael McMillian will be teaming up with veteran comics writer Marc Andreyko to script the next arc of IDW Publishing's "True Blood" comic book series.

McMillian and Andreyko's "True Blood" arc will explore what happens when new vampire Jessica Hamby is turned feral by a contaminated bottle of synthetic blood substitute Tru Blood. Along with aeries regulars Sookie Stackhouse and Bill Compton, the arc will also feature the comic book debut of fan-favorite "True Blood" characters such as Hoyt Fortenberry, Terry Bellefleur, Arlene Fowler, and McMillian's own character, anti-vampire crusader Steve Newlin.

I caught up with McMillian recently to get a few more details about his "True Blood" arc, how it will connect with the wildly popular HBO television series, and what could be in store for fan-favorite character Steve Newlin in both the comics and television worlds. We also got an update on his other comics project: the four-issue "Lucid" series that marked his comics debut and will see its third issue hit shelves soon. Read More...

True GritThere are two kinds of people on Twitter right now — those in the Northeast who are being pounded by snow and those who aren't in the Northeast who are posting snarky things about the great weather they're experiencing. The comics Twitterverse, as it happens, is no exception.

In other news, a few faces in our feed made it out to see some movies over the holiday weekend. Today, we've got reactions to "True Grit" from Brian Michael Bendis and "Tron: Legacy" from Skottie Young. Simon Pegg, meanwhile, caught the "Doctor Who" Christmas special "A Christmas Carol" and shared his thoughts. Check those out along with Chris Onstad's battle against an AeroBed after the jump.

Andrew GarfieldAndrew Garfield is our new Peter Parker, but it's going to take some time before we get to see the British actor in full-on Spider-Man regalia — but with filming already underway, Garfield himself is already well accustomed to wearing Spidey's red and blue tights.

In an interview with The Guardian (via Comic Book Movie), Garfield revealed that he's already put on the Spider-Man suit multiple times, though he was careful not to divulge too much information about the new costume.

"I have," he exclaimed when asked if he's worn the Spider-Man suit yet. "I feel like a kid in my [pajamas]. I can only say how it feels and it feels pretty special. It feels like a dream [realized] and a fantasy [realized] and I don't take it lightly and feel very, very lucky that I get to wear spandex for the next few months!" Read More...

The AvengersWe've long known that Tony Stark, Steve Rogers and Thor would be joining forces to battle evil foes in "The Avengers," but the exact identity of those antagonists has remained unrevealed until now — well, possibly.

[UPDATE: SuperHeroHype has confirmed that the following report was the product of a research error by the newspaper.]

Ain't It Cool News points out a throwaway line in a recent report from The Albuquerque Journal that, if accurate, reveals who the bad guys are in "The Avengers." According to the report, Earth's mightiest heroes are going head to head with none other than the Skrulls and the Kree.

"'The Avengers' script will blend 'Iron Man,' 'Thor' and 'Captain America: The First Avenger' story lines as the Avengers battle with two alien races, the Skrulls and the Kree," the report states. Read More...

Every year around this time, the mail arriving at Splash Page HQ gets a little more, well... awesome. Given that there's usually a steady stream of comics and movies crossing my desk, that's saying a lot — but that's the magic of holiday card time.

Take, for example, the following art sent my way from "Doctor Who" writer Tony Lee and the newly formed Manor Club Productions with Daniel Boultwood and Ciaran Lucas:

Manor Club Xmas

Yes, that's the trio battling anti-Santa robots while riding unicorns that shoot lasers out of their eyes.

And there's more where that came from. Read More...
