It's funny when you think that "Spider-Man" and "X-Men: First Class" are both shooting right now, and yet the first isn't out until July 2012, while the second is coming our way on June 3 of this year.

That probably has a lot to do with the fact that a sizable portion of what Spidey does while in his costume needs to be filled in by a team of visual effects artists, but it still makes for an interesting comparison.

"X-Men: First Class" is looking good, though — and the idea of a period piece exploring the mutant superteam's '60s roots is pretty great. I can't say these new images, posted to Twitter by iPhone Dev-Team hacker Musclenerd, really evoke the feel of the time, but hey... at least there's a car being crushed by a giant piece of concrete. Chris Evans - Captain AmericaAt this point, we've seen quite a bit of Chris Evans as Captain America in the upcoming film from Marvel Studios, but it's still exciting to see more from the much-anticipated "Captain America: The First Avenger."

Empire has posted the cover from this week's issue of the British movie magazine, and it offers a nice, new look at Evans in costume as the red, white, and blue superhero. The issue, which hits shelves February 3, also includes interviews with Evans, Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige, and "Captain America" director Joe Johnston.

“Scripts had been developed that took place half in World War Two, half in the modern day and none of those scripts were particularly successful because the costume ended up overshadowing the man,” said Marvel chief Kevin Feige in an excerpt from the feature. Read More...

Henry CavillHollywood has a new Superman, but is he the right man for the cape and tights?

Ever since the new face of DC's Man of Steel was announced this weekend, everyone's been talking about whether "Tudors" star Henry Cavill is the right man for the job. Some question whether he'll make a better Superman than a Clark Kent (or vice versa), while others wonder if a British actor is the right choice for a superhero fighting to preserve "truth, justice, and the American way."

So, what do you think? Is Cavill the right casting choice for the role? Now's your chance to let us know. Read More...

BatmobileLast year, we posted some images of actors Russell Brand and Luis Guzman in costume as Batman and Robin, respectively, from the set of their upcoming remake of the 1981 Dudley Moore classic "Arthur." Now it looks like the superhero duo's costumes aren't the only elements that will appear in the film, as Brand was spotted in midtown Manhattan this weekend behind the wheel of the Batmobile.

Brand and his "Arthur" co-star Greta Gerwig were spotted outside the New York Public Library on Sunday (January 30), filming a scene in which the Batmobile appears to play a prominent role. Much like the aforementioned photos of Brand and Guzman, the film seems to be going for the late-'90s, "Batman & Robin"-era version of the costumes and Batmobile (Bat-nipples and all). Read More...

With production on Marc Webb's reboot of "Spider-Man" now fully underway, reports from the set are flying in all fast and furious-like. Sony got a jump on things by releasing an image of star Andrew Garfield in costume before the spies could do their dirty work. That turned out to be the right move, since the days that followed have brought with them a flood of information and up-close views of the action.

You've already seen Spidey running through traffic, riding on the backs of trucks and just straight-up running.

Today's latest look, posted on YouTube, is the most action-packed yet: Spidey swinging! Read More...

Henry CavillThe death of James Bond composer John Barry hit Twitter hard this morning, especially in the U.K. Mark Millar, Jimmy Palmiotti and Edgar Wright all offered their thoughts on his passing, as did Bryan Hitch.

In the world of comic book films, news that Henry Cavill will play Superman also rocked posting yesterday. The jokes seemed to outnumber more serious commentary, but Erik Larsen did slip in a sincere wish for Zack Snyder and company. Find out what that was, as well as how the Pro Bowl stacked up against the SAG Awards for one writer down below.

I'm @brianwarmoth, and this is your Twitter Report for January 31, 2011. Read More...

Christopher Nolan - BatmanSure, everyone's talking about Henry Cavill playing Superman right now, but don't forget about our good pal Christopher Nolan, who's producing the upcoming "Superman" reboot and given Batman new, record-breaking life in a blockbuster film franchise.

"The Dark Knight Rises" is Nolan's next, third, and possibly last entry in the "Batman" series, and you can't really blame him for calling it quits after the upcoming installment. It's been a great ride, but if "Inception" proves nothing else, it's that Nolan isn't quite finished dishing out the original ideas.

Right now, though, he's gearing up for "The Dark Knight Rises," which starts shooting soon, as he revealed in a recent interview. Read More...

Henry Cavill as SupermanJust in case you were off the grid this weekend, it's official: Henry Cavill is the new Superman.

The British actor was announced as the lead actor in Warner Bros. upcoming reboot of the Superman movie franchise yesterday afternoon. Set to be directed by "300" filmmaker Zack Snyder, the as-yet-untitled reboot continued the trend of casting lesser known actors as the Man of Steel.

And much like we did when Anne Hathaway was cast as Selina "Catwoman" Kyle in Christopher Nolan's next Batman film, we tasked our photoshop-savvy producers with giving us an indication of how Cavill will look in the character's iconic costume. Read More...

Buffy the Vampire SlayerI spoke to Dark Horse Comics editor Scott Allie earlier this week about his upcoming "Star Wars: Jedi" miniseries, but many comic book readers know Allie as the caretaker of the publisher's successful line of comics based on the creations of Joss Whedon.

With "Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season Eight" concluded, this year will likely be full of new beginnings in Dark Horse's corner of the Whedonverse, from "Season Nine" and the newly acquired "Angel" license to new comics based on "Dollhouse" and other fan-friendly properties.

While Allie indicated that the launch of "Season Nine" is occupying just about all of his waking hours these days, the continuing adventures of Whedon's vampire slayer isn't the only big project in the works for 2011. Keep reading for a rundown of some of the major Whedonverse properties developing at Dark Horse and what we can expect from them this year. Read More...
