Michael FassbenderAs the most powerful foe the X-Men have ever faced, Magneto is a man with some big shoes to fill. It doesn't help that he was played to perfection by Ian McKellen in the original "X-Men" trilogy, leaving Michael Fassbender with a daunting task in taking on the role for the upcoming "X-Men: First Class."

"Hopefully I won't disappoint the fan base out there, because I know that what Ian McKellen did sort of latched onto a lot of imaginations and was very successful," the actor said in an interview with MSN.

But just like his co-star James McAvoy isn't paying too much mind to Patrick Stewart's previous performance as Charles Xavier, Fassbender is looking to bring his own unique take to the Master of Magnetism. Read More...

Is this the first image of the "X-Men: First Class" cast? Take a look for yourself and then read on for a little background on this new image that's making the rounds...

UPDATE: Fox has indicated to MTV News that this is not an authorized image from the "X-Men: First Class" movie.

[IMAGE REMOVED AT REQUEST OF STUDIO]

So here's the deal: The image first appeared at MSN.com earlier today, and though the page where it appeared was subsequently removed, The Hollywood Reporter has indicated that it's legit. Even so, we're still a bit skeptical about the shot, given the strong photoshop vibe coming from the image and how unlikely it would be for the studio to reveal this much of the cast at once rather than teasing out each character.

Until we get confirmation one way or the other, though, it's certainly worth discussing. Read More...

Hot on the heels of our first, official image of Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man, a batch of new images have arrived online from the set of Marc Webb's upcoming reboot of the "Spider-Man" movie franchise.

Posted at On Location Vacations and The Daily Blam, the new photos were taken around the Los Angeles set of the film, and include our first, blurry shot of the friendly neighborhood webslinger in action.

Spider-Man

Okay, so he's not exactly crawling any walls or swinging through midtown here, but it is an action shot. Read More...

Red SkullHalloween is many, many months away, but the arrival of Marvel Studios films "Captain America: The First Avenger" and "Thor" isn't too far off — so it's not surprising that designs for costumes based on the films have started to appear online. What is a surprise, however, is that the costume images might give us our first look at one of the films' most-anticipated characters: Cap's arch enemy, The Red Skull.

The costume designs are posted over at BigBadToyStore.com (and uncovered via The Daily Blam), and though the movie version of the Red Skull played by Hugo Weaving will certainly look different than the $60 costume and $23 mask pictured on the site, they do offer a nice tease of what's to come. Heck, there's even a HYDRA symbol on the belt buckle of Red Skull's costume.

I've posted the Red Skull images below, and you can head over to BigBadToyStore.com for the rest of the costume designs. Read More...

Ricky GervaisIf you've been wondering what Jock and Dave Gibbons have been up to recently, it was a good morning to checking your Twitter feeds. It appears that Jock's body of Judge Dredd work continues to grow, while Mark Millar compared Gibbons to Steven Spielberg in discussing their new collaboration.

Elsewhere, creators contemplated stories that are much less likely to see the light of day, though Chris Weston's Star Trek movie pitch and Brian Denham's Marvel Universe "Cars" homage are both things that I would pay money to experience. Check those out along with some expectations for the next iPad and thoughts on Ricky Gervais' jokes at the Golden Globes Sunday.

Captain AmericaParamount has released a new image of Chris Evans as Captain America from their upcoming film that will introduce the iconic soldier-turned-superhero into the new Marvel Studios movie-verse.

In the new image, we get a nice action shot of Cap that also offers another look at the red, white, and blue uniform he'll don in the film. Purists will note the white wings and "A" on Cap's helmet, which also appeared in the image that arrived online last week. The studio provided a nice, high-res version of that image, too.

"Captain America: The First Avenger" hits theaters July 22, 2011. Read More...

Contrary to previous reports, acclaimed composer Hans Zimmer isn't scoring Zack Snyder's "Superman" reboot. But he will be back for "The Dark Knight Rises," his third and presumably final Batman collaboration with director Christopher Nolan.

MTV News caught up with Zimmer on the red carpet at the Critics Choice awards this past weekend to talk about his work on the developing Batman movie, and he confirmed that he's already started talking with Nolan about the film: "Yes. And that's all I'm going to say!" Read More...

Over a month has passed since we received an update from Darren Aronofsky on "The Wolverine," the "Black Swan" director's forthcoming comic book film that allegedly has nothing to do with the adamantium-laced mutant's last cinematic outings, save for the involvement of returning star Hugh Jackman.

But that doesn't mean that Aronofsky isn't still plugging away at his non-sequel. The filmmaker spoke with MTV News on the red carpet at the Golden Globe awards this weekend and said that he's hard at work on the project, even though he's still in the midst of promoting his current award-winning film. Bad news for those of you hoping that Jon Hamm was a viable candidate to star in Zack Snyder's "Superman" reboot, we're afraid. The "Mad Men" actor spoke with MTV News on the red carpet at this past weekend's Critics Choice awards and confirmed that he is not in the running for the Man of Steel's silver screen revival.

"No," he said when asked if he was ever considered for Superman. "No, and I have talked to Zack quite a bit. We had some looping and reshoots and stuff to do on 'Sucker Punch,' but I think that's a young man's game. I think I've aged out of that one by now." Read More...

When Sony released the first image of Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man last week, it was a big deal for multiple reasons. Along with offering us our first look at the actor in the iconic red-and-blue costume, eagle-eyed fans were quick to point out the mysterious metal discs on his inner wrists, which seem to indicate that director Marc Webb's reboot of the blockbuster franchise could take Peter Parker's web-shooting ability in a new direction, too.

But are those web-shooters a throwback to the old mechanical system (and webbing) that Spider-Man creators Stan Lee and Steve Ditko originally envisioned for the bookworm-turned-superhero, or simply an accessory that facilitates the slinging of organic webs?

"It's a device," Emma Stone told MTV News during the Golden Globe Awards when asked about the silver discs on Garfield's costume. Read More...
