"Men in Black 3" kicked off production last year, only to immediately go on a months-long hiatus through and beyond the holidays. Just last week Tommy Lee Jones revealed that "there are vast pieces of the script yet unwritten," so today's news of another delay should come as no surprise.
"Men in Black 3" was set to go up in front of cameras earlier this week, but a delay has pushed the start date back to March 28, Hero Complex reports. An inside sources pegs that added wait time to script issues, echoing Jones' words from last week. This is actually the third delay for the long-in-development sequel, after the production was pushed from October to November last year.
In related news, Alice Eve has been cast as the younger version of the MIB agency boss played by Emma Thompson, Deadline reports. The "Harry Potter" actress signed on last October, to play a "take-charge MIB operative who is monitoring a prison breakout."
Eve's casting confirms that Thompson's role is set in the coming sequel's present-day story arc. Previous reports revealed (spoiler alert) that the next "Men in Black" chapter jumps between two time periods, revolving around a time-traveling plot to kill the younger self of Jones' Agent K, played by Josh Brolin.
Eve will play Thompson's younger Olivia, a secretary who joins MIB in 1969. Deadline notes that "while it appears she was given the job for her looks, Olivia is actually whip smart." This lines up with the present-day storyline, in which Thompson's Olivia has reached a top brass position with the agency.
