You've been waiting all day for it and now it's here.
As promised yesterday, the debut trailer for "X-Men: First Class" arrived on Facebook today.
This is no brief tease, either. You get almost a full two minutes of footage, most of it highlighting the complicated relationship between Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) and Erik Lehnsherr (Michael Fassbender) that lies at the heart of the story. The preview unfolds while archival audio of former President John F. Kennedy plays, establishing the film's place in history at the dawn of the atomic age. Read more...

When it comes to Zack Snyder's upcoming reboot of the "Superman" movie franchise, the rumor mill has been turning at a furious pace lately. We've had actors' names thrown around, casting rumors reported and debunked in the space of a day, and lots of uncertainty about which characters from the Man of Steel's history will actually appear in the film.
When comics-friendly filmmaker and writer Kevin Smith dropped by the newsroom earlier this week for our live, streaming Q&A, we made sure to ask him what he thinks of all the Superman movie buzz.
"I love it," Smith told MTV News. "Zack Snyder is a fantastic director. He's a true director, put on this Earth to direct film 'til the day he dies." Read more...

Confession time: We weren't expecting to hear about any movement on a potential "Red Sonja" movie for at least a year, given all the headaches, delays, and uncertainties surrounding the most recent incarnation of the project — but it looks like we were wrong. Apparently, a "Red Sonja" movie is not only moving forward again, but it has a new director and star in its sights.
In an interview with Empire Magazine, "Drive Angry" producer Avi Lerner said a film based on the beautiful barbarian in a chain-mail bikini was on the agenda yet again at Nu Image Films, with "Con Air" director Simon West the favored filmmaker for the project. He also named "Drive Angry" actress Amber Heard (pictured) as his favorite contender for the title role. Read more...

“Avatar: The Last Airbender” is one of those cartoons with the artistic merit to appeal to an audience beyond the Saturday morning crowd. Although last summer's live-action film version, "The Last Airbender" did seem to draw a decidedly younger audience, fans of all ages will be able to find comics based on the Nickelodeon series alongside other cult-hit franchise adaptations like “Star Wars” and “Buffy.”
Dark Horse and Nickelodeon have just announced a plan to release new collections of “Avatar” comics. This follows the publisher’s successful release of the “Avatar: The Last Airbender—The Art of the Animated Series”.
The very first “Avatar” comic to hit shelves—of rather, fly off tables—will be available on May 7, otherwise known as the much-anticipated Free Comic Book Day of 2011. The installment will consist of two “introductory” short stories: “Relics” and “Dirty Is Only Skin Deep,” and will come packaged with Lucasfilm’s “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” in what Dark Horse calls a “special flip book comic.” Read more...

Creators threw clothing to the wind today as Doug Tennapel contemplated shirtlessness and Brian Michael Bendis made a shocking revelation about his use of pants. Their carefree attitudes were accompanied by sadness, however, in the wake of Activision's "Guitar Hero" cancellation announcement.
Elsewhere, Erik Larsen's convention frustrations, I noted yesterday, continued to grow, and he's now got WonderCon in his crosshairs as well. Today's rundown will let you know why, along with an explanation from Mark Millar about Ultimate Thor's dialect, and a plea for "Glee."
I'm @brianwarmoth, and this is your Twitter Report for February 10, 2011. Read more...

No one is expecting Zack Snyder to carbon-copy the classic Christopher Reeve Superman, or even the Brandon Routh version, in his upcoming Man of Steel reboot, but what will the "300" filmmaker's take on Superman be like?
Superman is an embodiment in many ways of 1950s values, and Snyder said in an interview with SFX Magazine (via ComicBookMovie) that one of the troubles he now faces is how to make the character work in a more present-day setting.
“My feeling about Superman is that I’ve been a fan of the character for a long time," he explained. "But the question for me was always, ‘What can you do with Superman in a modern world?'" Read more...

Remember a couple of weeks ago when McG was reported to be the "odds-on" favorite to direct the pilot for David E. Kelley's coming "Wonder Woman" reboot? Well, that's not happening anymore. Jeffrey Reiner has apparently replaced him as the new front-runner, and this time it sounds like a done deal.
The former "Friday Night Lights" director/executive producer is currently finalizing a deal that will see him direct the pilot for the NBC series, Deadline reports.
Reiner brings no small amount of experience to the table too, having helmed three pilots that went to series, for "Trauma," "The Event" and Syfy's recently canceled "Battlestar Galactica" spinoff, "Caprica." Read more...

Shane Black was only recently confirmed to be directing a live-action "Death Note" adaptation, but it's a gig he may soon have to put aside. The "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" director is reportedly in the running now for an even more high-profile comic book movie, a little sequel called "Iron Man 3."
Black met with Marvel in recent days to discuss the possibility, according to an update from The Hollywood Reporter. The chat only covered him potentially directing, though the "Lethal Weapon" scribe has plenty of writing experience and it's expected that the script will be his if he lands the directing gig.
Insiders noted (to THR) that Black's meeting is one of several the studio will be having, and his involvement in the planned sequel isn't even close to being confirmed. Read more...
