Captain AmericaAlthough this summer's "Captain America: The First Avenger" is the first time most movie-goers have seen Marvel's star-spangled hero on the silver screen, an upcoming DVD release reveals a secret origin for the patriotic star.

B-movie director Albert Pyun recently talked with io9 about the upcoming re-release of his little-known "Captain America" film from 1990.

Starring Matt Salinger (novelist J.D. Salinger's son) as Steve Rogers, the film was originally planned as a big-budget feature film spurred by the success of Tim Burton's "Batman." A last-minute withdrawal by the film's backers led Pyun to finish the film on a shoestring budget and led the studio -- and Marvel -- to send the film on a direct-to-video trajectory that kept it out of the mainstream movie-goer's eye. Jennifer GarnerComics tweeters on the east side of the Atlantic Ocean had some fun things to say about Jennifer Garner nabbing the part of Miss Marple for Disney today. The critiques haven't been nearly as harsh as the "Sucker Punch" reviews showing up, but Chris Weston thinks he might know of an appropriate candidate to play Hercule Poirot if someone gives him the reboot treatment as well.

Thoughts on Garner, Natalie Portman's stunt double in "Black Swan" and a confession from a writer who impulse bought a Nintendo 3DS await you after the jump. Click on down to find out whose side you're on and what Ben Templesmith thinks of Seattle.

Amy AdamsThe internet has been buzzing this week over the announcement that Oscar-nominated actress Amy Adams will play Lois Lane in Zack Snyder's upcoming "Superman: Man of Steel" movie. Overall, fans seem to love the casting -- but if there was one negative to be found, it was a frequent complaint regarding the age difference (nine years) between Adams and her on-screen Superman, Henry Cavill.

But does it matter?

An older woman dating a younger man certainly isn't unheard of, but the nine-year age difference -- Adams is 36, Cavill is 28 -- has struck a certain portion of fandom as, well... a little odd.

However, some creators who know their way around a Superman story consider that age difference a positive. Read more...

Erica Durance“Smallville” may be ending, but Lois Lane actress Erica Durance thinks there’s a silver lining.

In an interview posted at ComicBookMovie.com, Durance said the positive thing about ending this series is that they can have fun with the story lines.

“You really get to explore some of those things that you’ve been kind of stretching out,” she said. “For my character, it’s been really fun . . . It’s Lois — how does she help him [Clark Kent] with his two different identities? And so it’s getting back, like, directly into the mythology.” Read more...

For more than a decade now, the notion of a "Justice League" movie has been one of the great, golden egg-laying geese of the comic book movie world. On paper, it's brilliant: Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Green Lantern, Martian Manhunter, Aquaman and any number of other DC superheroes all in one movie. What red-blooded comic book geek wouldn't want to see that?

Now it turns out that such a thing might actually be happening, confirmed directly from a source who ought to know a thing or two about what's upcoming for DC Comics on the big screen.

Warner Bros. boss Jeff Robinov must have dropped the info bomb in a rather off-handed way during his interview for a recent Los Angeles Times profile. There's no direct quote regarding "Justice Leage" in the story; the writer instead paraphrases Robinov. Read more...

Captain AmericaThe "Captain America: The First Avenger" trailer debuted last week after days of anticipation marked by televised sneak peeks, still images, and ever-so-brief clips from the film's first full-length trailer.

Along with identifying five important scenes from the "Captain America" trailer, I teamed up with MTV Movies Blog editor Josh Wigler to give you a video analysis of the trailer — something we hope to do more of down the road. Apparently, our trailer commentary made its way in front of the right eyes, as I ended up chatting with "Captain America" screenwriters Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely just 24 hours later.

Our long conversation managed to cover a lot of topics — everything from their thoughts on seeing the trailer (and our commentary on it) to the "skinny" Steve Rogers effects and some things you might've missed in last week's footage. Read more...

"Thor & Loki: Blood Brothers" debuts in various digital formats today, bringing Robert Rodi and Esad Ribic's epic 2004 miniseries "Loki" to life as a four-episode animated series in motion-comic style.

Over at USA Today, they've posted a short clip from the series, as well as an interview with "Thor & Loki" producer Ruwan Jayatilleke.

The original "Loki" miniseries unfolded in an Asgard ruled by the trickster god after he defeated his father Odin and stepbrother Thor. The critically acclaimed story presented what many view as one of the most complicated portraits of Thor's well-known nemesis. Read more...

Amy AdamsFROM MTV MOVIES: Henry Cavill might have been getting a little lonely in Metropolis. Two months after landing the role of Superman in Zack Snyder's reboot of the superhero franchise, the 27-year-old actor still hadn't found out who'd become his Lois Lane.

The answer arrived on Sunday: Amy Adams will be play the Daily Planet reporter and Superman love interest. In a statement, Snyder called Adams "one of the most versatile and respected actresses in films today."

That's hardly an overstatement: The 36-year-old star has performed in indies and blockbusters, musicals and animated fare, solemn dramas and bawdy comedies. Along the way she's managed to earn three Oscar nominations, the latest for her supporting turn last year in "The Fighter."

Last we heard from writer/director Adam McKay ("Anchorman"), his planned adaptation of the ultra-violent comic book series "The Boys" was still in the scripting stage, though he had already begun weighing the pros and cons of 3-D filming for the project.

MTV News caught up with McKay at last weekend's Comedy Awards, and while he confessed that "The Boys" script is still a work in progress, he's already taken meetings with some prominent actors regarding the film.

"I've sat with some people. I really like the idea of Russell Crowe for [Billy] Butcher," said McKay. "We met and had kind of an interesting meeting." Read more...

X-Men: First ClassAlthough it's little over two months away, many details of the upcoming "X-Men: First Class" are still being kept under wraps. However, a spate of recent posts on the film's Facebook page have revealed a bit more info about the film.

Over the past few days, the "X-Men: First Class" Facebook page has been a hive of activity, with updated information, photos, as well as Q&A sessions with the producers, actors and directors. Of particular interest is the character bios that go beyond formal facts and give hints as to each character's origin and relation to others in this swinging '60s mutant tale.

Of all the information revealed, a standout is the character description for Hellfire Club head Sebastian Shaw (played by Kevin Bacon). Departing from his comic book origin, it reveals that Shaw was a Nazi collaborator and played a part in Magneto's childhood in the concentration camps of World War II. Read more...
