The “Spider-Man” movies have been blockbusters, but the Broadway musical “Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark” has been plagued by a series of problems. The solution? George Takei.
Topless Robot posted a hilarious video with the “Star Trek” actor giving an audition reel while clearly — very clearly — on strings. Takei will be starring in “Allegiance: A New Musical” on Broadway in 2012, but he can’t wait that long to get on the big stage -- hence his plea to replace Reeve Carney as the on-stage Spider-Man.

“I want to be in a Broadway musical now,” the actor tells us. “So I thought to myself: what show is in desperate need of actors with great moves and great musculature? Why, ‘Spider-Man,’ of course. Now, you’re probably thinking, isn’t George Takei a bit mature for the role? Well, as you can see, I’ve got the whole package. Watch and learn, Peter Parker.”
Still on his strings, 73-year-old Takei then goes to fight bad guys in an alleyway with plenty of THWACK and POW action. This continues on to a lyrical rewrite of the famous “Spider-Man” song letting us know who really deserves to play the superhero.
It’s very obvious that Takei isn’t actually auditioning for “Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark.” Still, he might be the musical’s best bet.
