“The Avengers” is scheduled to be released in the spring of 2012, and filming is just around the corner. Sooner than you might think, in fact.
Mark Ruffalo, who replaces outgoing Hulk actor Edward Norton in the role of Bruce Banner, spoke with Collider and revealed that shooting on "The Avengers" begins the first week of May. Exciting news, to say the least, but that's not all he had to say about Earth's Mightiest Heroes' forthcoming assembly.
“We have to get the script,” he said. “We’ve been working on the script, which has been fun. I’ve lost 15 pounds. They don’t want me all ripped up, but they want me to be lean and mean. It’s about trying to get the psychology of somebody who knows, at any moment, they could literally tear the roof off of wherever they are and trying to bring something real to that and totally fantastic.”
Acknowledging that others have played the Hulk before him, Ruffalo said, “I’ve got some big shoes to fill. I kind of look at it as my generation’s Hamlet. We’re all going to get a shot at it.”
Though playing the Hulk might be intimidating, he sounds excited about the movie itself.
“I’ve been working with Joss Whedon on the script, with the rest of the cast, and we start rehearsals soon,” he said. “Hopefully, we’ll have the mother of all comic book movies for you soon.”
If that’s what we’re going to get, that sounds pretty good.
