As “The Dark Knight Rises” rounds out its cast, roles of newly added characters grow smaller. But however much screen time he may end up filling, the latest addition out of the Batman camp poses to piece together more about the film’s story.
You may not know Josh Pence by name (or by face, for that matter) but chances are, you know his body.
The actor, who was digitally superimposed with Armie Hammer’s visage to portray one half of the Winklevoss twins in “The Social Network,” has been cast as young Ra’s Al Ghul within Christopher Nolan’s final film featuring the Caped Crusader.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Pence is to play Ghul in scenes that take place 30 years prior to the film’s present timeline.
Liam Neeson portrayed Ra’s Al Ghul in “Batman Begins,” and although the amoral Bruce Wayne mentor appeared to have died in the film, what we know of “The Dark Knight Rises” seems to indicate he’ll hold some place in the plot—dead or alive. After all, this new bit of news reinforces the unconfirmed rumor that solidified cast member Marion Cotillard is likely to play Talia Al Ghul, Ra’s daughter.
Pence and Cotillard will join other “Batman” newcomers Anne Hathaway, Tom Hardy, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Juno Temple in addition to returning mainstays Christian Bale, Gary Oldman and Morgan Freeman.
