Actor Lucas Till has always been a fan of Marvel's mutants, which is why he was so excited to talk about the “X-Men: First Class” mutant he's bringing to the screen, Alex Summers, a.k.a. Havok.
Speaking to IGN, Till said his character has never been able to control his power, and relies on an external device to focus his abilities — much like Cyclops' visor.
“In the comics he has a suit that absorbs excess energy but it was more like a meter that would tell him how much power he has," he explained. "Whereas in this one I have something that channels it because I can't control it myself. So I have a chest-piece that focuses the ray so I don't blow my team-mates up.” Read more...

“Captain America: The First Avenger” arrives in theaters this July and even the star, Chris Evans, has yet to see the whole film. Still, he said he’s seen parts of it — and what he’s witnessed has made him proud.
MTV News recently spoke with the actor as part of our Summer Movie Preview Week, and he gushed about what he’s seen of "Captain America" so far, but didn't want to jinx anything, since he hasn’t been privy to the final, entire cut of the film.
“I’ve seen quite a bit. I’ve not seen the full cut,” he said. “Everything I see, I really like. I don’t like jinxing things. Individual scenes in a vacuum can be misleading. But I will say this: every single individual scene that I’ve seen, I’ve loved.” Read more...

Even though “The Avengers” has begun filming, we’re still learning about all the actors with roles to play in the film. Paul Bettany, who played J.A.R.V.I.S. in “Iron Man” and "Iron Man 2," recently confirmed his return as the voice of Tony Stark's computerized assistant.
While at a press conference for “Priest,” Bettany was asked a few questions by a fan about his part in the Marvel movie universe.
"Well, I just met with Jon [Favreau] one time, talked things out and I've recorded some lines for the movie, not knowing anything about it,” the actor said. “Then, one day, when ‘Iron Man I’ was released, my friends started to tell me: ‘You're in ‘Iron Man’!’ and I kept saying ‘What? No, I'm not!’, and then, after I saw the movie, I've realized, that I've had quite an interesting part in this movie." Read more...

Tuesday brought sad news for punk rock fans with the death of former X-Ray Spex singer Poly Styrene. Flagrant music lovers Kieron Gillen and Jamie McKelvie shared what she meant to them, both as a music icon and performer with a punny name.
The flip-side of authority in the U.K. continued to trend in conversations as well, though, with Mark Millar and Paul Grist sounding off about the British royal family and their ensuing wedding. Read on for jabs, queries, and "Doctor Who" and "The Killing" criticism.

The Avengers have officially begun assembling! Joss Whedon penned fans a rather amusing letter this past weekend to get us ready, and now we have more evidence that things are really, truly happening with Marvel's superhero team-up blockbuster.
For starters, there’s an official press release, telling where and when filming started and some of the people involved. It also confirms that Tom Hiddleson will be back as Loki after he mentioned he would be in more Marvel films.
Accompanying the press release is the first official photo from the set, too. Do any of these names ring a bell? Read more...

Earlier today, we kicked off Summer Movie Preview Week here on MTV Splash Page with an exclusive new image from "Captain America: The First Avenger" — but that's not all we have for you from Chris Evans' upcoming debut as the star-spangled superhero.
In a recent interview with MTV News, Evans looked beyond "Captain America" to Marvel's upcoming blockbuster team-up movie "The Avengers," which began filming this week.
"Even in the first 'Captain America' movie, they bring him into the modern world — that does happen," Evans told MTV News when asked how the character's dual presence in both World War II and the modern era will factor into Marvel's movie universe. "In 'The Avengers,' they start to explore this. He's a fish out of water, a man not in his time, and he's just coming to terms with the way the world is now and how it's changed since the '40s." There are only two "Smallville" episodes left before the series finale, and it looks like things are only getting rougher for Clark Kent in this Friday's "Dominion."
Over at The CW's official YouTube channel, there's a new preview for this Friday's episode, which has Clark entering the Phantom Zone with Oliver Queen in order to investigate how criminals are escaping from the prison dimension.
