ThorFROM MTV MOVIES: The golden-locked God of Thunder has finally descended upon theaters. "Thor," starring brawny Aussie actor Chris Hemsworth, tells the tale of a powerful but arrogant warrior whose reckless actions reignite an ancient war. As a result, his father, Odin (Anthony Hopkins), banishes Thor to Earth, where he meets humans Jane (Natalie Portman), Darcy (Kat Dennings) and Dr. Eric Selvig (Stellan Skarsgård). When a dangerous villain from Thor's world invades Earth, Thor must learn what it takes to be a true hero.

Next to "Fast Five," "Thor" is one of the first potential blockbusters of the summer. Also, with Thor being part of Marvel Comics' "Avengers," the hopes are high for the film to be a success and draw in more fans in advance of 2012's highly anticipated ensemble flick.

So what do the critics think? So far, so good. The film's current approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes is a "certified fresh" 80 percent.

The Troll HunterConfession time, folks: One of my favorite movies of the year wasn't actually based on a comic book. It was, however, based on creatures from Norse mythology and a guy who wrangles them. (No, it has nothing to do with Thor. He's got his own movie.)

Writer/director André Øvredal's "The Troll Hunter" is a documentary-style film about a group of college students who encounter a mysterious loner tasked with managing the local population of trolls and keeping their existence a secret. It's a great little film, but here's the best part: "Troll Hunter" distributor Magnet Releasing has recruited yet another comic book artist to create a special poster for the film, just like they did with films like "Black Death," "Monsters," and "Survival of the Dead."

This time around, it's "Orc Stain" creator James Stokoe, who not only created a great poster for "The Troll Hunter," but also spoke with me about the process and revealed one of his massively detailed early drafts of the image. Read More...

Keanu ReevesThere’s a green light for the live-action adaptation of “Akira” and rumors have been circling around possible actors for the lead roles, including Robert Pattison and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

The latest name — and now a strong possibility for the role of Kaneda, one of the two main characters — is "The Matrix" star Keanu Reeves.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Reeves has been in talks with Warner Bros., and while nothing is official yet, the talks are going well. They speculate that having Keanu Reeves’ name attached might help get another big name for the other main character, Tetsuo. Read More...

Although I haven't seen all of her films, I always enjoy chatting with Kat Dennings because she's funny, charming, and very down-to-earth — especially during interviews. I experienced this second-hand at last year's San Diego Comic-Con, when she and her "Thor" co-star Natalie Portman entertained the MTV News studio with giggles, tons of energy, and a moment of group harmonizing with MTV Splash Page editor Rick Marshall. The singing video has since gone missing, but this is a great example of how fun it was. (Ed. Note: I didn't steal the tape so I can watch it on a daily basis. Nope. -Rick)

This week is all about the god of thunder, so when I caught up with Dennings during the "Thor" press junket, I asked her about providing much of the film's comedic relief and whether she brought anything home from the set.

"I knew [the one-liners I had] were funny, but I didn’t realize the weight of the humor," she said, with a mock haughty toss of her hair. "I got so lucky, I’m so lucky to be in this, and I got some fun stuff." Read More...

PriestAmid all the hubbub over the last week about Superman renouncing his U.S. citizenship, many critics forgot to consider what would happen with Bizarro. Luckily, Stephen Colbert raised the issue, and I think DC Comics should hire him to write at least a one-shot about the premise.

In the meantime, "Thor" opinions are still flying around. Today's list features not only reactions to Heimdall and the film more broadly, but also Mike Norton's personal review of the Thor Slurpees at 7-Eleven. Inform yourself about these topics, "Priest" and Stan Lee's latest voice-acting work after the jump.

"Thor" thunders into theaters this weekend, and while comics fans might be well aware of Marvel's hammer-wielding hero, he's not exactly a household name for mainstream audiences. So, what's a person to do if all this talk of Asgardian gods, magic hammers, and superheroes from other worlds feels a little, well... complicated?

Go to the "Thor" star and director for some Thunder God 101, of course!

In the above video, "Thor" star Chris Hemsworth and director Kenneth Branagh explain some of the key elements of the character's mythology — including the relationship between brothers Thor and Loki, their father Odin, their mortal enemies, and the method by which they travel between worlds. Thor” has its official U.S. premiere this weekend, but given all the praise its received in early reviews, it makes sense to ask about a potential sequel.

When MTV News sat down with "Thor" director Kenneth Branagh, we asked about the possibility of bringing “Thor” back to the screen again for a post-"Avengers" follow-up.

“We went through so many possibilities for how the story might go, that of course the prospect of that is very tantalizing and fascinating,” Branagh said about the notion of a "Thor" sequel. Read More...

DESCFor fans of “Smallville,” the series finale will certainly be bittersweet. For the actors and others involved, it’s even more so.

Star Tom Welling, who plays Clark Kent, spoke to Zap2it about the end of the show and hinted at some of the developments that will cap off the series' decade-long run.

"I think people will feel fulfilled, but it's going to be bittersweet,” he said. “If someone has been watching the show for 10 years, it's coming to an end, and that's never a fun thing . . .You always want more, but the reality is that it can't go on forever." Read More...

Conan the BarbarianLucky members of the comics community who made it out to early screenings of "Thor" continued to tweet about it this morning. Cameos were the popular topic of the day, though artist Paul Azaceta voiced one major complaint.

Another film jumped into trend topics, too, though. The new "Conan the Barbarian" trailer prompted plenty of praise, and fans seem to be warming up to Jason Momoa. Reactions to the trailer, Bryan Hitch's pick to play Perry White in Zack Snyder's Superman movie, and details regarding Hugh Jackman's pants incident lurk down below.

It's been more than a month since that first "Conan the Barbarian" teaser popped up online, offering us our first glimpse at director Marcus Nispel's reinvention of Robert E. Howard's sword-swinging warrior. However, fans received a much more comprehensive preview of the film today, thanks to a new trailer.

Starring Jason Momoa as Conan, the new movie aims to reboot and reinvent the character's big-screen presence for a new generation — and if this first trailer posted at Yahoo Movies is any indication, things look like they're off to a good start. Read More...
