DeadpoolBefore "X-Men" visual-effects guru Tim Miller landed in the director's chair for "Deadpool" last month, rumors were flying that Robert Rodriguez was in advanced negotiations to take on helming duties of the Marvel adaptation set to star Ryan Reynolds.

There's only one problem with this development narrative: it's not true. That's what Rodriguez told MTV News when we caught up with the filmmaker recently.

"I was working with Fox already on 'Predators' and I asked what other movies they had coming up," he explained. "It was 'Planet of the Apes' and other stuff. They said I might want to see 'Deadpool.' So I said, 'Sure, send it to me.' Almost just out of curiosity. And if I really, really wanted to do it, maybe I could figure out a way to do it. But that wasn't really going to happen. I just couldn't fit it in with other projects." Read More...

DESCThese days, Stan Lee seems to be as known for his comics as he is for his cameos in comics-based movies.
While he won’t be having a cameo in “X-Men: First Class,” Lee recently told fans he’s done his duty in “Captain America: The First Avenger” and “Amazing Spider-Man.”

That means “The Avengers” should be next, and Lee took to his Twitter account to tell us all about it.

"Warriors mine, grieve thee not that I have no cameo in X-Men 1st Class," Lee tweeted. "‘Tis just that the movie was filmed too far away for me to attend" Read More...

She might have been Spider-Man's first love, but it's taken an awfully long time for Gwen Stacy to get some time in the live-action spotlight. Spider-fans' patience appears to be paying off, however, as the platinum-blonde girl who steals Peter Parker's heart will finally be the leading lady in Sony's upcoming franchise reboot, "The Amazing Spider-Man."

Of course, "Amazing Spider-Man" actress Emma Stone won't be the first to play Gwen Stacy on the big screen. That honor goes to Bryce Dallas Howard, who portrayed Gwen Stacy in 2007's "Spider-Man 3." With both actresses appearing in the upcoming film "The Help," MTV News made sure to ask Howard about the weird convergence of roles.

Asked whether she'd discussed the situation with Stone when they were on set, Howard said the topic "totally" came up, and heaped praise on the next Gwen Stacy — and the film that gave her the role first. Read More...

Tintin teaserThe new "Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn" teaser still keeps its hero in the shadows, but it's given the world a glimpse at what director Steven Spielberg and producer Peter Jackson have put together. A few tweeters feel like it may have jumped a little too far into the uncanny valley, though.

Meanwhile, Jon Stewart and Bill O'Reilly's debate last night attracted a few responses as well. Reactions to that, news of an up-and-coming Marvel trivia champion and Simon Pegg's new fight to raise awareness are each on the record after the jump.

I'm @brianwarmoth, and this is the Twitter Report for May 17, 2011. Read More...

TintinIt's been a little while since our last update on "The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn," but the latest headline is a big one. The first teaser trailer for the film has debuted online, giving us our first good look at the Belgian boy detective's big-screen adventure.

Debuting at Apple.com, the "Tintin" trailer offers a nice glimpse of the animation style used by director Steven Spielberg and producer Peter Jackson in bringing the beloved character's stories to life. And even if you aren't familiar with Tintin, you can't help but be intrigued by the project's credits, which include the aforementioned Spielberg and Jackson, as well as a screenplay co-written by Edgar Wright ("Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World"), Steven Moffat ("Doctor Who"), and Joe Cornish ("Ant-Man").

And that's just the people who aren't appearing on the screen! Read More...

CastleWe might not get to see Nathan Fillion suit up as Green Lantern, Hawkeye, or any of the other comic book characters we keep suggesting him for, but it looks like he'll get a different sort of crossover with the comics world in the near future.

Announced via press release today, Marvel Entertainment and ABC Studios are partnering to publish a graphic novel based on "Castle," the hit television series in which Fillion plays celebrated mystery author Richard Castle. The graphic novel will be titled "Castle: Richard Castle’s Deadly Storm," and feature the protagonist of Richard Castle's novels, Derrick Storm.

And while that might be an appealing prospect to "Castle" fans (and Nathan Fillion fans), comic fans should note the pedigree of the project's creative team, too. Veteran writer Brian Michael Bendis will co-script the book with Kelly Sue DeConnick ("Captain America And The Secret Avengers"), while "Fables" artist Lan Medina handles the interior art. Wonder womanAfter the announcement that NBC rejected the “Wonder Woman” television series, there's been much speculation as to the reasons, with speculation pointing toward lukewarm reviews at test screenings and internet complaints. NBC chief Robert Greenblatt recently offered a bit more information about the decision to pass on the series.

In an interview with TV Guide about NBC’s fall season, “Wonder Woman” was brought up at the very end of a conversation with Greenblatt, who explained why the series didn’t pan out.

“They did a great pilot and worked really hard on it,” Greenblatt replied. “And I have huge respect for David E. Kelley. But we looked at the schedule and our needs and where things were falling into place. And it just didn't seem to fit.” Read More...

Random Acts of ViolenceWe first told you that someone should turn Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin Gray's "Random Acts of Violence" into a movie nearly a full year ago. It took some time, yes, but it looks like Hollywood's finally received the message.

Heat Vision reported earlier this month that actor and screenwriter Jay Baruchel has signed on to write an adaptation of "Random Acts." The Kickstart and Image Comics graphic novella centers on Todd and Ezra, two struggling comic book creators who hit it big with their creator-owned "Slasherman" series.

But when a string of murders modeled after "Slasherman" starts following Todd and Ezra in the middle of their signing tour, the two creators must confront their best-selling creation or die trying. Read More...

TalentIt’s been several years since a film deal was made with Universal to turn the graphic novel “Talent” into a movie, but now some more headway is being made. "Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog" co-creator Zack Whedon, brother of Joss Whedon, has been hired to write the script for the film.

The report comes from Variety, which speculates that having Whedon brought on board will "stir momentum." After all, things hadn’t really been moving for “Talent” in quite a while.

Whedon’s writing credits include the TV shows “Deadwood” and “Fringe.” Read More...
